With a reputation for alcohol abuse and violence including trying to shoot someone, Dean Martin's daughter I believe. The trouser spitting was nothing, he was known for being volatile and very difficult to work with, years later whilst playing Elvis in the musical he just ignored the script and talked to the Audience

I agree. Reprehensible, but let us remember that Proby came from the deepest American south, where 15 and 16 were the ages of brides. He was a smart guy, but never really understood the modern world. Jerry Lee Lewis married his 14-year-old cousin and took her with him for a performance in England. Lewis was forbidden to set foot on the tarmac at Heathrow. I loved that. I and my American family. We thought Jerry Lee was pure trash. P.J. was cut from the same Southern cloth, but managed not to be as blatant in public. (Back then.)

This type of interview would not be possible on U.S. late night tv. Or most daytime talk shows. There would be inane interruptions from the hosts. Commercial breaks.

Good lord. I was a 13-year-old American girl who screamed at the Rolling Stones during their first American tour in 1964. I had no idea about sex, but thought that Keith was "cute." Girls all go through that stuff--if they're lucky. It was a lot of fun.
