Wow!! Talking about a full line up. This was the best of the best talent that George has assembled. Bernie and Junie on keys, wow. We will never ever see this kind of show with this multitude of all stars again. Our generation was blessed to be emersed in this at young ages not realizing that this was some once in a lifetime shit that would not be equaled or topped. FOREVER FUNKIN ON!!!

@@shakiracharriez9811 you're so right, such a historic site. I graduated from there, saw my first few concerts there, attended other graduations and good old Bullets games in that building! Even saw the Harlem Globetrotters there! I think tearing it down took a piece of everyone that the Capital Centre was a part of our lives. I'm in Montgomery Co. so not too far, but still have friends and family near the Landover area. Yeah I said it! Ha ha ha - that will always be Landover, MD to me, no matter how many names PG tries to rezone and rename it.

At 6 years old, my mom took me. We were there with my mom's friends, uncle, his friends. I was playing their records on my red, rubber band driven turntable. Then I didn't know about Cameo and Mother's Finest then...it was all about Parliament-Funkadelic. The music was sooo loud and clear. There was smoke all around me. As a kid, I was scared in the beginning. The lights went out, people were screaming and when the skull came out, I damn near pissed myself; so my mom told me. But as soon as there were songs I recognized, Cholly Get Ready to Roll, I was ok. Now seeing this brings back memories. Unfortunately a year and 8 days later, my dad was murdered. When I went to see him in the summer of '79 we would look at a concert of P-Funk and I would "air drum" and imitate George.

This was the first tour that I attended. Where I lived at the time, the radio only played Parliament songs, so when the Mob came on stage and played 'that Rock n Roll song, me and my friends were like, "what the heck are they playing"? We had no idea about Funkadelic until the "One Nation Under A Groove" LP. Imagine my surprise and delight when I heard the entire pfunk catalog 2 years later!!! Cosmic Slop is probably my favorite live Funkadelic song now.

I was there however the show that changed my life was a few years before at the cap center when they first landed the mothership. That show also had Cameo and Mother Finest. Cameo came on first and rocked the ish out of the cap center so much so I was worried about how anybody could follow that until MF came on and crushed it. Really worried now. PF came and ripped the roof of tha sucka. Changed my life. Years later I met and befriend Eddie Maggot brain Hazel and was introduced to the funk mob. An incrediable journey. In Funk I Trust.

One other testament to the impact of Parliament Funkadelic - I was so tickled to see the MOTHERSHIP parked in the Smithsonian African-American Museum! My son went a few years ago when he was maybe 12 or so and showed me pictures he took. When I saw the pic he took of the Mothership, I had to ask if he knew what it was. Of course he didn't...so it was a sit-down moment of, "son, let me tell you what that really is..."

The beginning of the Freebase years. Band not in the pocket. This is post the Mutiny of Goins/Brailey/Fuzzy/ShadyGrady and the drug induced mental breakdown of Dawn from Parlet and the departure of Malia. If I'm not mistaken Bernie and the WOO was gone too. Tiki Fulwood also died that year. It was downhill from here unfortunately. Nothing will ever beat the Earth Tour. Once they started with the horrendous Uncle Jam Tour and the subsequent followups like the Egg tour and this it was a wrap. Gary was good but no adequate replacement for Glen Goins. Junie Morrison is at least on deck.

yep RIP Debbie Wright.. as far as the show's decline, I do believe the shows with Dennis Chambers on the drums and the PFunk Allstars was damn good. The vibe was very different, of course. The money was gone, funding ceased after Warner Bros absorbed Casablanca Records. The drug use was unfortunately deep by then like u said.. BUT they were playing some COLD shit! With the Dennis, Skeet, Bernie, Pfunk Horns + Maceo era--maaaan there were some seriously FUNKY performances! I would STILL rather have seen that lineup live verses today.. The level of SOUL and MUSICIANSHIP is lacking with the younger members George has today.. I know they're mostly his family, but George used to recruit some badass young talent.. Anyway, I'll always support them, but i dont go to the shows expecting to be blown away. They're a fun tribute band now. I'll always love and appreciate the legacy though

Then this could be before 79, or it's not Glen at this show if it is - he died in July 1978. But it is the tour supporting Motor booty affair which I remember coming out in 78. It's amazing how they had time to put out parliament and funkadelic albums, tour collectively behind those albums...AND as if that weren't enough - they also had The Brides of Funkenstein, Parlet, ( both P-Funk groups with the female singers up front and most of P-Funk as the band ) And Bootsy doin' his THANG too... And there's more... From 1976 to 1979 there must have been more P-Funk albums than most bands make in a decade.... And many of them are still funkin' !

@@jperryfan and it IS The Capital Centre - which is a large venue for shows that they say are for DC... I don't remember what large venues were in DC proper... But Capital Center is in Landover which is close.

Because the old and now torn down Capital Centre was located in suburban Landover, MD, which was the biggest indoor arena in the DC area for all the big acts went to play...there were other different sized venues around the DC vicinity to play, but they'd have been too small at this point in 1979 for P-Funk...unless they had to use the NFL football RFK Stadium for the much larger all day funk/rock festivals....

Why would it be a crappy concert just because of that? The music don't matter no more now, just see a mothership come down and that's it....SMH
