P 22 bolt failure2

Фильм және анимация

On July 27, 2022 I got an email from Polaris about a safety recall for my 2022 Polaris Boost snowmobile with the new P-22 drive clutch. The "Stop Ride" notice mentioned the P-22 clutch bolt can fail "posing a potential injury hazard to consumers". Ive seen some of these failures last season and quite a few riders have replaced the P-22 with the P-85 as a safe guard. I put this video together to help the snowmobile understand why the bolt is failing. As of this writing there is no fix for it.

This is a great video thank you. Makes me wonder what Poo engineers are doing. Seems like a lot of gross negligence oversight recently 😢

Have you had a chance to check out the fix/update to the clutch bolt failure? What are your thoughts on it?

I'm not convinced that the bolt update is more than a band aide for the clutch. Over the next we’re months we will see once the 23’s and 22’s get more time on them. Personally I put a P-85 on my boost for now.

Bolts will most likely continue to break until the clutch is redesigned or round filed. The entire clutch is held together by the bolt. No other snowmobile clutch has this poor design. Like the P-85, needs to be held together by a screw on and torqued spider and jam nut.

The Polaris MY23 Boost (turbocharged 2 stroke) flatland snowmobiles have a different clutch mounting bolt: it is Part# 7528193. The Bolt used in the MY22 Boost sleds is no longer used in snowmobiles. The new bolt is used on the MY23 Polaris snowmobiles with the new Prostar S4 four stroke engine, which also use the P22 primary clutch.

You are correct. The microfiche for the 23’ boost VR1 does show a different part number than the 22’ boost mountain sleds. I don’t see any microfiche for the 23’ mountain sleds yet. Is the different part number for the vr1 the updated “fix” for the failing 22’ bolt? Hopefully talking with Polaris engineers at bay days will give answers.

It looks like now the 9r rmk and boost rmk use clutch bolt part # 7528304 now. I am tryin to find this install bolt that people are talking about. I've called a couple dealerships and they don't know anything about the instal bolt. Anyone know where to get these?

The nice this about the p-85 is you can use the shims to adjust belt to sheave clearance. The P-22 doesn’t adjust, your stuck with how it comes. Seem stock P-22 with stock belt with .080-.10 belt to sheave.
