Oyster harvest is in full effect at Tomales Bay's Hog Island Oyster Company | Bartell's Backroads
Before you load them up with hot sauce and lemon and slurp them down, a lot of work goes into harvesting oysters on the Northern California coast. The tasty shellfish also double as water filters so do yourself a favor and head to Tomales Bay to eat a few; you'll be helping to clean the ocean. ABC10's John Bartell hits the backroads for this tasty story.

In college in ~1972, one of my roommates was the son of the proprietor of the Tomales Bay Oyster Co. Each weekend, he would ride on his BMW motorcycle home from Stockton to TB and work the oyster fields for the weekend. Then he would bring back ~3-5 dozen oysters for we in the dorm to have a feast on sunday night!
Badass. It all started w two guys and a game plan . Seems like we lost that . Everyone wants instant success. And quits as soon as things get rougher. I enjoyed watching this for a change

Anyone cringe every time he says "oysture"?
Very interesting, even though, oysters are disgusting to me 😅
When you set out to do a piece about oysters, it would be nice to know how to pronounce the word OYSTER. The narrator says, "Oy-schturr" -- ugh. It reminds me of the guy who does that (fake) show about ancient extraterrestrials. He has dedicated his life to something he cannot pronounce. He says, "exa-tresh-trulls" -- it annoys me.
