Oxymercuration-Demercuration
We know how to do acid-catalyzed hydration, which is a Markovnikov hydration, but there is another way to do this, one that does not result in carbocation rearrangement. Let's look at the mechanism and application of oxymercuration-demercuration.

You're a king. At this point I probably owe you my first born child because of how often you've saved me :)
Thanks to you I got an A+ on my orgo class! Thank you, Professor Dave!🤗
The debt I owe to this guy for help in my orgo class is insane. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Thank you so much! This saved my day!
Nice short and crisp lectures
11th grader here Thanks man !! Helps a lot Im preparing for the JEE exam
excellent thanks
Nice one
Hi could you by any chance do a video or give a short explanation on the relationship between oxymercuration and solvomercuration :)
thank you
anyone from India
Nice....love from India....,..
Well done sir and keep uploading vedios
In stead of this reagent, would it give same product if added acidic water?
What is sterioselectivity and regiospecificity ?

actually i made a video on regio/stereo selectivity/specificity to explain this terminology, check that one out!

Why in first step mercury forms a positive ion if it receives lone pairs from nucleophile?
@shivanisingh-uc3hd
5 ай бұрын
That is formal charge. Mercury has 3 bonds at that position
In The Final Step, Wouldn't Competition Between NaBH4 Acting As A Base (Deprotonating The Newly Formed Alcohol) And NaBH4 Acting As A Nucleophile (A Hydride Deliverer). Never-mind, Lol, 2 Equivalents Of NaBH4, And Then An Acid Workup Will Take Care Of That. Awesome Video ( As Per Us..)
This kind of addition is syn and anti or just only anti, and why?

This addition is in markonikov fashion, and it is anti-addition as H and OH will be in opp directions.

Demercuration is anti and then oxymercuration is syn

In which standard is this taught in your country
@lolajones7600
Жыл бұрын
The United States doesn’t have “standards” if I’m understanding what you’re asking. This would be university level organic chemistry. Maybe 2nd year university. Most people studying this would be science majors and maybe engineers.
Isn t it stereospecific since it will always form the trans product?
@ProfessorDaveExplains
5 жыл бұрын
but there are two possible trans products depending on which way the first step goes.
It can not be explain better than that
