In our country . We mark the fresher by their haircut. Because in 1st year they face RAG by senior and they force to cut there hair by senior.

I did a Maths degree at uni, and in our uni, if we handed it in within 24 hours after the deadline, they would deduct 10% from your assignment mark. If you handed it in after the 24 hours, you get 0 for that assignment. Of course, if there were extenuating circumstances, you could speak to them and get an extension

At my college in graphic design they would deduct 10% of your mark immediately, after a week you get an automatic 0. Sometimes you could deal with some professors for exceptionally good reasons. But then sometimes there would be a collective outcry from the class for an assignment to be pushed further, I was lucky that our school had a vivid student life and lots of demonstrations and student strikes 😅 so the professors were keen on listening to us and adapting their courses.

We definitely need to use term fresher in the States.

Will in my country we identify freshers with one thing the girls they be dressing up so good wearing high heels full on makeup walking around like fashion models same same thing with the boys thy would be wearing nice outfits and everything but then as time goes by they realize that dressing up and putting makeup and wearing heels is first of all uncomfortable because the heels you will not be able to move comfortable in them the makeup is going to take time from you in the morning especially for the girls that does not live near the College so you'll girls with less makeup with something more comfortable like sneakers or Converses same with the boys , I was a fresher myself and I would put on makeup and wear nice clothes but then I changed I couldn't wake up and do the makeup so I switched to something more comfortable now I would go for simple " no makeup " makeup and I wear my combat boots because they are really really practical and I wear my hijab basically and sometimes I wear skirts or or pants and jeans I don't wear fancy clothes . basically both girls and boys would switch to modest clothes
