Owon OW18E Bluetooth Multimeter

Ғылым және технология

Less than £42
Very useful features.
Data recording, torch.
Very readable display at most angles.
Autoranging is slow.
I use 20K almost exclusively for day to day repairs.
Sleep mode should have an option to be disabled.
Connect to the Bluetooth App to keep the meter on.
The App is very quick and well laid out.
Do not trust any meters NCV feature!
Nor would I take high voltage measurements with any budget meter!

Very interesting. I'm not so sure that bluetooth is a feature that I would use after the novelty has worn off, but it is the sort of instrument that I tend to collect!!!

wondering if the BT data can be used for logging, maybe have it write into an excell file or something for keeping an eye on glitchy psu's etc

You seem to be using an older apk software. I bought a B41T+ meter and the software seems to have changed to iMETER apk which i believe is valid also for the OW18E. The iMETER software is missing numerical values on horizontal and vertical scales on data graph which makes the whole point of a graph useless. The old software does not seem to appear on site or Playstore.

The reading on temperature is the cold junction compensation as a thermocouple is always referenced to a cold junction, and, as keeping a big bowl of ice and water around is rather inconvenient, instead you have a temperature sensor by the ADC input, normally on die temperature derived from the bandgap reference on chip. Free as part of making a bandgap reference, as you have some junctions that measure temperature, and this is set by physics and geometry only, so is pretty accurate even uncalibrated. However a K type thermocouple probe only is going to read +- 5C over the full range, and typically +-2C over the range )c to 100C, as the calibration is typically done using 2 points, one being a 0C reference voltage, and the other 100C voltage, though for a typical factory cal, to make it easier and not need a 2 quadrant millivolt supply, they use something like 50C and 150C, so that cal is simply use the 50C count as zero point, and the 150C count for scaling. TC calibration is hard, all sorts of errors from things like worn contacts, connectors that are not exactly isothermal, and even the screws used to connect the cables to the terminal block.

Yes. Thermocouple temp feature on multimeters is terrible. They are practically useless when an accurate absolute temperature is needed

how long does the backlight stay on before automatically turns off? Can you make it stay on? Thanks
