I absolutely loathe the "the customer is always right" mentality. It has bred an entire generation of people who think that being a customer gives you not just some weird status but also the privilege to behave in a socially reprehensible manner, abuse staff and demand far more than whatever your few bucks are worth. Effectively harming any small business that actually needs every single customer while promoting huge corps who can burn through both employees and customers because they can afford it Ps: the "i will have you fired" line is the prime example. The idea that so many people consider it okay to potentially financially ruin someone over a minor mistake is mind-boggling.

I think "The customer is always right." should honestly be phrased a little differently through all the time I've heard this saying. "The customer is always right" actually has nothing to do with face to face interactions. It's a marketing term about statistics. So if 95% of ham buyers purchase honey ham as opposed to regular ham and you need to get rid of one, the customers have told you which one they want to keep. The way that most people use it is a bastardization that was created by people who complain too much.

  • @acapybara3032

i agree with everything here but "the customer is always right." the customer is not always right, i will cry to fight you on that. one time i got screamed at by a woman because my coworker moved her food to a different table (still visible to customers), just not a table where people eat. we had a 40 minute dining time period limit (fast food type restaurant located at a ski resort)) and she had been gone from her table with the food sitting there for *two hours* and we had a shit ton of people wanting tables. we were more than generous and didn't even throw out her food, yet she acted like i was the worst person in the world.

Funny because I thought this guy literally told us why he doesn't own a franchise....in less than 3 minutes. It's easy to say "giving this away brings profit later" when you never realize people are greedy and that 10 cents quickly adds up over a small time frame. For example when Dairy Queen does its 1 dollar burger Tuesdays the profit margin per burger is anywhere from 4 to 7 cents per burger. So losing 10 cents on extra veggies/sauce that day nets a loss as a whole. Even though I think most franchises are cheap like he said I do understand that this guys has a worker mentality not an owner mentality which is why he can't comprehend the logistics of running a business franchise. The subs wouldn't be cheap if the owners were not cheap in return. Weather up of down the spiral always takes effect. After all like the saying goes "you get what you pay for".

There are few things that will really make you hate humanity more than working in customer service because everyone treats you like an object or a means to an end. Also, it's not like every other customer is this way. I've been at Taco Bell for about 3 years and I've worked many customer service jobs over the years. I've dealt with plenty of rude, entitled people. Our store gets the lowest number of these people out of all of them. On the rare occasion one comes through, I put them in their place and get away with it because of just how rare it is and the fact that my manager pretends to not see it. I'm kind, calm but firm, don't insult them (except one). I simply lay out the options, make it clear that attitude and entitlement are not welcome in our store, and so far I've never had an issue afterwards. Even the old lady who threatened to call corporate on me never did. I told her to go ahead. I also called her a b**** at one point. That was an interaction I'm not proud of. Even so, everyone there that day knew I was right. I didn't even get so much as a write up. The manager just made me take a paid break to get my bearings. Haha! 🙂🙂🙂

'sandwich artist' lad you are mad. I used to work in a kitchen for a major international airport. I did the 10pm-10am shift, so id go in at night, and be home by midday. The packages sandwiches were all made that day, and id literally pump out 5sandwiches at a time, every 3min for an hour straight before having a smoke break and moving onto the prep for hot breakfast. fking sandwich artist for real man... ive seen subway queues go absolutely mad because the 3 fking ppl doing all the shit are all desperately clapped in the head, carefully placing each bit of lettuce 1by1

They get repeat business with us and the teens now because they try to be more forgiving on the toppings and soda refills. No free cookies tho but that's ok. Peanut butter is my favorite.

It is so true about franchise owners, most of the time at least. I always feel the worst for the employees working at these places. They usually deal with low wages, mad customers, and equipment that isn't up to par. I worked at Tubbys when I was young and the first owner was great and always went out her way for the employees and customers. Then the new owners came in and I put in my 2 weeks within the first week of them taking over. They were so cheap and lost so many customers that have been regulars for years that they sold the restaurant again within 6 months. Example: We had a customer that would come in a few times a week and she always got a 12" steak and cheese sub made special. She only wanted 1/4 of the steak that usually comes on it but wanted extra, extra cheese. We never charged her for the cheese because the steak costs more money and we still made more profit from her sub. The new owners wouldn't do that for her and tried to charge her an extra $3 for the cheese. Guess who stopped coming in? She was the sweetest lady too.

I work at Chick-Fil-A, and this is our whole business model. The point of CFA is not to serve you food, it's to bring a smile to your face. I probably upgrade fries or a beverage or add something that was forgotten for free fairly often. It benefits the store more than those 30 cents or 1 dollar would. I mainly do this when it's our fault though. If we accidentally write down the wrong thing on your order or something. We will always refund you if it turns out cheaper but we rarely charge you if it comes out to be more expensive. It's just called human decency. Not everything is about money. It's mainly about serving others and brightening peoples' days.

I used to work for Subway about 30 years ago and I worked for fantastic owners. They didn’t make a big deal out of extra veggies and we had many, many happy repeat customers and they still made a decent profit. Gotta be good to your customers or soon they will be no-seeums!

I went to a subway in Rainelle WV one time and the owner was so cheap that not only did he spend all day in the subway watching his employees he would count the number of olive slices put on a sandwich... it was 6 for a 6in and 12 for a footlong. The girl put like 8 or 9 on my sandwich and the owner jumped her ass and pulled the extras off then took apart the sandwich and counted the meat and took off a pepperoni took off a bit of lettuce. Then when I said never mind this bullshit and was heading to the door to leave he yelled at me saying I have to pay for the damn sandwich and told the other employee that was on lunch to block the door while he calls the police on me. The funny thing out of all this was the look on his face when his employee that was on lunch said fuck you I quit and I gave them a ride home.

Worked part time at a Subway, I've always prepared sandwiches with the feeling of "I'm preparing it as if I'm the one who's going to be eating it" and was fired after less than two weeks lol. I mean, who goes to subway because they like dry bread. "Unnecessary wasting of resources", they said, bro... What is an extra squirt of mayo when the client obviously likes mayo, after replying with a deep "Ohhh yeah.." after being asked "Mayo?".
