He doesn’t fight crime or wear a cape
He doesn't read minds or levitate
But every time my world needs saving
He’s my superman
Some folks don’t believe in heroes
Cause they haven’t met my dad
He loves his workshop and rock n roll
He’s got a hot rod and a heart of gold
And you could say he’s a man of few words
But he talks a lot within
And even thought I’m a little taller
I still look up to him
He built me a house in the arms of a tree
He taught me to drive and to fight and to dream
When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see that
My dad’s a hero to me
Rust ridden fenders and doors full of dings
Somehow he can fix about anything
I didn’t think he knew how to cry until our dog died that year
He doesn’t always say I love ya
But I can hear him loud and clear
He built me a house in the arms of a tree
He taught me to drive and to fight and to dream
When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see that
My dad’s a hero to me

4 years ago, when I listened to this song for the first time, I didn't think much of it not until about 2 years ago when I was accused of aggravated robbery, and my dad it would visit me at least 3 times in a week during the 89 days I spent in detention, jumping on two buses covering a distance of about 100km. Yet, some people I thought were friends and family who were near where I was being detained never even bothered to visit me. My dad is my hero, and I'll always dedicate him this song.

I showed this song to my dad, and there were tears in his eyes. To all dads, you're awesome!!! Leaving my original comment for context, but I'm changing it a bit. When I wrote this, I didn't know about how broken this world really is. I was naive. So many people have commented on this though, and I've actually seen more since I finished high school, and I know now, that as sad as it is, there are absent fathers in the home. To all REAL dads out there. The ones who are there for their kids, and who care: you're amazing.

This is the saddest song I've heard since my father died on Father's Day. He died after struggling with cancer he suffered for 7 years. This song really represents how my father was in his life. I've never seen him cry, and he taught me not to cry over the little things. He is good at cooking. Whenever we got an order, my father always helped my mother cook. He always sewed my torn uniform, and taught me not to always buy new things if they could be repaired. He always helps me finish school projects related to electricity and mechanics. He always fixes things that are broken at home. We almost never buy new things when they break. My father can do anything extraordinary. I miss him so much after a month I didn't see his face again. But he always taught me to stay dependent on God, even when he wasn't around. He taught me to see that in suffering, the name of God is exalted. Thank you Adam for your beautiful song ❤️

I just heard this for the first time at work today. It almost made me cry 😢 My dad wasn't around all the time when I was growing up because of his job. But when he was at home, it was only him and me. Watching movies, going around together or playing Rock & Roll with the guitar and piano. 100% Father & Son. He didn't build me a tree house but he did teach me how to fight and dream. His message was something like "You can do whatever you want with your life. Just make sure that it takes you somewhere". He passed away in 2017 at 55 years old because of a cancer, in México. We spent together all April month of that year together. And we didn't have a good relationship back then until we met again. And in that month we revived the good times together. Father & Son again, knowing that it would be the last time I could be with him. He died 5 years ago and I still think of him every single day. Now I'm 33, I have a steady job and living on my own. But I do regret that he's not alive to enjoy all of this with me. "Not All Heroes Wear Capes". Well, my dad didn't have any cape...but he was and still is...one of my Heroes. I ❤YOU DAD

Kevin Winder Sadly, most people don't listen to his songs and the critics hate him. It all started when he confessed his faith and that he dedicated an album to Jesus. The album received horrible reviews. I remember after a while this girl with Pink hair sang a song about anacondas that became more popular despite having no inherent redeeming quality in her song, she was praised to no end by critics.

What I don't understand is why people think he's here to please them and give them exactly what they want. No matter what he makes, no matter what sound he does, someone will always hate it. He does more upbeat, "silly", electronic dance type music, someone hates it. So he does more acoustic, slower, and mature music. Someone hates that. He is an artist, and any artist (whether a painter, an illustrator, a singer, a dancer, or a sculpture or anything else) will experiment and try different genres and types of art, if art is their passion and how they deal with life. There's nothing wrong with it and people should embrace Adam for not only having the drive to try new and different sounds, but the talent and skill to actually master it when he does try it! Ahh well.. That's why Adam covered Garden Party. "You can't please everyone so you gotta please yourself."

I showed this song to my dad a few years back. When it ended, he just said “nice song”. No hug or anything, just that, and almost immediately he left. Since then I think his heart is not made out of gold, but of ice and stone. It hurt like hell. But I came to understand he showed me his love by working his ass all day 'till night, every day, so that I had everything I needed. That was his way of loving me. And that's why he's my superman.

I am going to comment on a fact that everybody seems to overlook. The fact that Adam is the one playing all the instrument, he is the one who wrote the song and is the one singing it and as everyone else stated, there are no curse words, nudity, drugs or the like. Not to mention he also wrote all of those scores. There are no other artist who can hold a candle to him. He is so talented that he is actually a genius, but is often overlooked. All of these big name artists and rappers can't even come up with a decent lyric, let alone orchestrate a while music by themselves, yet they get all the money: welcome to earth folks, the land of chaos. This is the same thing we did to TESLA.

@@sportsmusicmoviefan85 Sometimes it is the simple songs that resonate with people more than complex ones. I like that Owl City just makes music they enjoy, experimenting with songs like "Fireflies" to see what works and doesn't. It takes one song to get you famous, but talent to keep people interested in the music. Simple chords can be used to great effect with the correct strum pattern, tempo and lyrics. Complexity doesn't make great songs. It is talent, planning and the elements of a song that makes it good

I'm a dad of a 3 and a 2 year old and frankly I really aspire to be half of what these super dads out there are, including my own. You don't really fully appreciate them until you are one yourself and truly see the sacrifices they make for you. No words can ever express our love and gratitude for them and they never ask for anything in return. The real underdogs. Hug your dads when you still can.

Oh my tears, my heart, I pray my babies look at me like this. We have had a storybook life. We replaced TV with us and people laughed at us. All of life's greatest achievements and accomplishments revolve around our memories. I feel sorry for all the fathers who have failed there children. My life was not complete until my daughter was born in July 1991, I deployed to war in October 1991. It was there I knew she was why I was on this earth. I returned and made my son who was born in Oct of 1992. What a blessing he is. I deployed again and again. In September 1994 my second daughter was born, God once again blessed me. This song has me baling. It hits so hard.

Can't believe I didn't hear this gem before this. Always loved Owl City but this song just blew me out of the water. It's perfect. LOVED it!!! Thanks guys, you are amazing... "Some folks don't believe in heroes cause they haven't met my dad" & "He doesn't always say I Love You, but I can hear him Loud & Clear". Absolutely beautiful. Definitely doing a cover of this for this year's father's day.

"Not All Heroes Wear Capes" He doesn't fight crime or wear a cape He doesn't read minds or levitate But every time my world needs saving, he's my superman Some folks don't believe in heroes 'cause they haven't met my dad He loves his workshop and rock and roll He's got a hot rod and a heart of gold And you could say he's a man of few words, but he talks a lot within And even though I'm a little taller, I still look up to him He built me a house in the arms of a tree He taught me to drive, and to fight, and to dream When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see That my dad's a hero to me Rust-ridden fenders, and doors full of dings Somehow he can fix about anything I didn't think he knew how to cry till our dog died that year He doesn't always say I love you, but I can hear him loud and clear He built me a house in the arms of a tree He taught me to drive, and to fight, and to dream When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see That my dad's a hero to me He built me a house in the arms of a tree He taught me to drive, and to fight, and to dream When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see That my dad's a hero to me My dad's a hero to me My dad's a hero to me
