    For those who see this and are in the market for a camper shell in the $6-10K range, there's a company in Winters, CA called Tradesman that will make any type of custom shell you want ... including pop-ups. They're also made of aluminum (framing and sides), but look much more finished and nicer. They just completed mine and I'm extremely happy with it. Hope you enjoy your camper!

  • @naumatt

    You're definitely going to lose some mpg. I can't tell you how much because I did my tires and suspension at the same time, which also chews up a little mpg. It's super light, but you're gonna get some wind resistance.

  • @crashjump1849

    @crashjump1849

    Жыл бұрын

    A Kimbo is almost 1,000 lbs. But if your going to be spending alot of time in very cold weather the Kimbo is better suited for those conditions. Pop up campers are way lighter and have a lower center of gravity with the added bonus of much lower clearance. Check out the Go Fast Camper and Alu Cab for hotter weather overlanding/ camping.

    I've seen a number of complaints with the Project M regarding dust intrusion. Much of that is probably a truck bed problem. Have you experienced dust intrusion particularly with those barn doors? If yes, what have you done to mitigate it? Thanks.

  • @yankunflies

    @yankunflies

    2 жыл бұрын

    I haven't had dust issues. We weather stripped the bottom of the doors to snug up against the tail gate. The doors themselves shut right then left, so the left door can snug up against a lip that is weather stripped on the right door. Both door tops fit against another sealed lip on the camper itself. The bottom would be the only issue, but again, we just weather stripped it and it's all good! The dog getting in and out, on the other hand...

    Hey how's this holding up? How big of a mpg hit did you take from adding the shell? Did you get the extra tall version? V1 ?

  • @naumatt

    @naumatt

    Жыл бұрын

    I did get the extra inch on mine and it's worth it. That extra headroom, in the bed area or standing below with my build, is really nice. This is a version 1, they've added a few nice things to the base model since. I did my suspension and tires at the same time my camper went on, so I can't speak directly to the mpg hit, but with camper, 2.5" lift, and 285/75s I average 12.5 in my new 2021 Tacoma this is now on (my first gen frame cracked from rust a few months after I filmed this. Saddest day ever).
