What color is your geranium? I love my pink ones. We saw some really deep red ones last week in a town planter blooming their heads off. They we're gorgeous and huge!

Zone 8b here; My previous place 4 + years ago My husband built me a greenhouse…I miss it so much. We purchased a greenhouse kit last November and the biggest issue since this kit will be more than twice the size has been getting our land surveyed, permits and the health department okaying it…which is ridiculous since it will be 25’ from sewer lines. Just received the okay from H.Dept. Now they want $667. Just to submit the paperwork-so criminal. So for the last 4 years I have converted our garage into my greenhouse…doing what you did in the video with grow lights. Last year I lost my dichondra silver falls; sad day. My penny vine I stored in an old refrigerator that the door was off of as an experiment and it did awesome on the top shelf and lower shelf I put in a diamond frost uphorbia which also did really well. I also had extra of each of these plants hanging from the beam in my garage; the ones in the unplugged fridge did best. Not sure if it was the insulated walls, the bright white on 3 wall sides from the fridge are a combination of both. Kept all tender plants just moist (watered every 2-3 weeks. Just thought I would share as another option as I prefer not to mix my outdoor plants with my indoor plants as sometimes it’s not just the pests that I am worried about but the viruses like nematodes and too many others to list.

Ugh, it's ridiculous how much governments control...I'm lucky to live out in the country but there are still irritations from them. Some day I'll have a heated greenhouse but until then, in the house they go. It's interesting how your plants did in the frig. Makes me wonder too what really worked.

@@PetalsAndMetal When you do get your greenhouse it will be like a whole new added room! When my husband and I were dating he knew I was a plant addict! I bought him a Japanese maple for his which was 8 months into our dating 😂He said no one’s ever bought him a tree before…so he built me a small greenhouse, which I painted the frame before the polycarbonate sheets went up.decorated it and had room for 2 small garden benches. We had electrical but no water so we had to carry jugs of water in. It ended up being our favorite hang out spot to just chill and either watch plants sprout or see all plants blooming in the winter with a foot of snow outside just felt magical. What I learned from that first greenhouse is go a little bigger than what you think you’ll need because if your storing all your pots, soil, fertilizers, tools..that takes up space. Also, I had wished we had built taller as it didn’t occur to me how much head space gets taking with hanging plants…I cleared them just fine as I’m only 4’10 but my husband is 6’2 and he constantly bumped his head 🤕 So just something to think about when you plan to do yours.

@@PetalsAndMetal I would love to do a hoop house someday but my list of garden love keeps growing 😂 …my husband never promised me a rose garden so I planted my own! He has built me my 1st greenhouse and is going through the process of this new one …I’m ecstatic! I just watched Laura from garden answer do the landscaping around her greenhouse which made me toss my original idea as I can see incorporating how she did the front and sides on a smaller scale. My son does construction and did the foundation and walk way on my first greenhouse. Which back then was done with shovels, rakes and a level. This greenhouse won’t break our backs as we invested in a tractor when we moved into our new place mainly because of the work we wanted to do to the back of the property. Part of the corner was overgrown with weeds, and we needed to either remove some trees and shrubs or relocate some. We put in a full row of arborvitae’s and all that work alone transformed the space beautifully. We had neighbors saying they couldn’t believe how nice it looked! The previous owners were pretty good about maintaining everything except for that area…and I found out why pretty quickly…. The soil was so rocky and compacted that we tried to dig out some of the plants, it was backbreaking work. That was when we decided to get the tractor…no regrets except I don’t know how to drive it and it’s probably safer that way! 😂

I don't bring my pots in, I just spray with Maggies 3 in 1 organic spray every week after I repot them and put in sunny window. No bugs but I do separate them from my indoor plants and don't put them in the same area. A cool spare room if you have one is ideal.

@tben-xcfg - So all winter you just keep them in a sunny window(south facing or not) and they survive just fine with no supplemental lighting? also do you fertilize every couple weeks with a weaker fertilizer? I live in ohio zone 6 hoping to bring my plants indoors. Thanks!

You’re one of the first gardeners that overwinter the annuals as well. And also I like how you use the paper bag to overwinter. I’m wondering if we could do a zoom video I’m not very good with the technology the spring on bringing the annuals out

I had no idea you could over winter petunias! I'm definitely going to give it a try. As far as watering, you said you let them go dry, but then when and how much after they're dry? Love your video. Looking forward to watching more as time allows.

Not completely, just enough water to keep them alive so I can propagate them in the spring. When it gets closer to spring, I'll start watering more and feeding them a bit too to encourage enough growth for cuttings.

This past year I experimented with various Supertunia, Tidal-wave, and Wave Petunias from Proven Winners throughout my landscaping and pots. I was blown away at the size and aggressiveness of such a beautiful plant. Have you winterized any Tidal or Wave Petunias? Is it better to cut clippings close to the root ball?

Aren't they amazing?! I haven't tried Tidal but I did bring in an Easy Wave Rose this year. I cut them back pretty close, to about 4" so there's room for new growth and less that the roots have to provide for. I bring so many in that I need to cut them back simply for the space. My main goal is really just to keep them alive until later winter when I can start to take cuttings and propagate them.

As I understand it, there is no border between zones 5A and 6B. Did you mean 5B and 6A? Thanks for your video.

Your four year old has an awesome name! Lol Lights are left on for 16 hours. Coleus did great, inpatients didn't make it. I ran out of room and ended up tossing the petunias because they are so easy to start from seed.

How about New Guinea impatiens? Can we do these?

I've never overwintered one but you should be able to since it's a perennial in warmer zones. I would cut it back a bit, no more than a 3rd and make sure it has bright light but no direct sun.

How warm is the temperature in your room

Usually 72-74 degrees. We keep our home pretty warm.

The lights are from Amazon. I forgot to mention they have a timer too. I love that they are so thin that I can't actually see them, that they're hidden behind the shelf trim. I'm very excited to try all of these since this was my first year with gardening at all! It would be awesome to have a head start next spring and not have to buy so much!

Many people use a Castile soap. I just use whatever dish soap I have on hand.

So can I eat that potato

It will taste awful. These are bred for ornamental not for eating.
