you are absolutely right about the shrinkage of the battle pass. tbh they need to stop making shop skins the theme of the season and put the themed stuff in the battle pass and if there is a skin that has a profile banner and picture should be paired together in one slot to make room for other possible things.

What I don't get is that the only Themed Skin this season is Mythic but the rest are Legendary. My guess is they did to get more money out of us while making Mythic a bland title.

The battlepass shrank when they introduced prisms, since those take up 8 slots now, and they also made it so premium currency takes up its own slot when you get it. I brought this up and people argued with me about it.

yeah and i found it super weird how they originally had it so some tiers had both coins and an item but then they quietly it so that it’s only 1 item or currency per tier

​@@societyman7526apex made it so that they're putting up a battlepass per ranked split. They'll be 60 tiers per pass and will have a regular $10 pass or a premium $20 pass. You cannot get the battlepass with the coins you get in-game, you gotta use real money.

@@societyman7526For the upcoming season battle passes can no longer be purchased with premium currency. Also there will be two BP per season. While there’s a bit more in total, you’re essentially paying $10 for half a battlepass and then another $10 when the second half comes out. Worse yet, there is also an additional premium+ pass on top of the two passes which lock a few extra items. Anyone buying the apex BP now are a bunch of nutters

New heroes used to be the selling point of these hero based shooters - new season, new hero to buy (and play!) and simply ENDLESS cosmetics to purchase, show off and collect. Since one of Overwatch's unique gameplay design characteristics (swapping/countering) holds so much sway over the actual game loop itself it started to destabilize and the public could sniff out a familiar and particular strench - pay to win. Oh no no! Not in my competitive shooter! This is a game with a system built firmly on a foundation of skill and rank, and once you start to give the impression that those things can be purchased for a price tag, any effort practice or time commitment starts to feel quite meaningless. I watched a stream where in the comp game, the tank left MID MATCH to purchase the battlepass and unlock Mauga only to return and win the game. Oh boy, did we know we were shooting ourselves in the foot when we applied the right amount of public outrage for (morally sound) player fairness and equality. The corpo says, it cannot be monetized, yuck how terribly useless, and tosses it into the pen of hostages/devs/creative professionals to deal with for $0.00 budget or resources. Why do you think Mauga and Venture launched with almost no cosmetics? I'm guessing because heroes now only fall under the label of "gameplay development" and not "profit".

I actually wouldn't mind it as much. Cause at some point we have so many heros that balancing will be horrid. (It already is) the more heroes we have the worse the balancing will be.

Hopefully games like Marvel Rivals and other Hero shooters coming out soon-ish, will give Blizz a wake up call to start puttin in some elbow grease and effort into their product. Considering how everyone has hated the tank kaiju update It seems the Dev's are just digging and digging their own grave at this point.

I've thought about this a lot, and judging from Apex's leaked battlepass rework, instead of elbow grease and effort being applied it's simply just going to raise prices. They'll also blame us for it, I can already see the copy being written "As part of our efforts to remain competitive in the ever evolving life service games sector, some pricing adjustments to the Overwatch 2 in game currency and in game cosmetics store have been made. With these adjustments, we are confident that Overwatch 2 can continue to provide the same high quality player experience blah blah blah" I think you get the idea.

I want a world where both OW and MR exist, and both compete with one another which ultimately keeps them both wanting to improve and fight for their players time and money. That's when OW will become great again.

i honestly expected this after they said free heroes. because they wanna rely on skins like every other live service game. idk why some feel as tho ow is a special snowflake that is immune to this common practice. its not sneaky, it's predictable...

Jump between last season and this season was already massive. We have just two double tiers in whole BP. Not in every 10 how we've used to. In whole thing. We used to get white currency together with player cards and some icons or banners, now it all is separate. And all souvenirs and most of banners/cards/icons are just useless filler no one will ever use. No one ever goes "Wow i want that player banner" So i would argue we need more skins in BP Also, this season emotes and victory poses for Zen and Genji should have been bundled in same tiers since they're the same animation

It's just sad that we are analyzing contents of bp. I don't like this model where skins are just created to fill the battlepass instesd of creating good cosmetics and adding them to the pool.

I wouldn’t mind if it was so Blizz could focus on quality over quantity, but if anything the quality is declining too. They’ve cynically exploited their movement of the coin rewards from the weekly rewards to the BP, as well as the inclusion of the mythic prisms. There’s your BP “value” now.

My guess is, we are seeing the last bits of stuff before the old Blizzard team left. It seems like the quality of stuff and quantity have been dropping, i think the old team just got lazy. Why work hard if you’re about to be out of a job. I would expect the next few seasons we start to see new content made by the new team. Hopefully more effort

thanks for making a clear comparison between s1 and s11. i noticed we were getting less but i didnt know the difference was that big ugh. the recolours in the bp are just as disappointing like what do u mean genji sentai recolour at tier 80??? ik his headpiece is different but wow...getting all the way to lvl 80 for that...lazy season after lazy season and it just keeps getting worse. mythic is disappointing as well with lack of headpiece options and bob only having 1 look

Even Dead by Daylight gives you a 1-1 return on your premium currency through the battlepass. And their system has two entirely separate tracks so that FTP players can still earn skins and standard currency without stepping on the toes of the premium track (which is admittedly bloated with dumb charms that no-one pays attention to in a match) if you took away all of the free slots from the overwatch battlepass how much would actually be left?

Budgets are getting thin, take these as signs that the end is near, probably closer than you think. the cost of live service games are inhuman. It's not that I trust companies, but when even micro budgets are shrinking that means they're being stretched to their limit. If you've ever worked professionally for a large company, the signs are pretty clear. You may all want the downfall of blizzard, but i love this game and would probably cry if it was shut down. You guys think that won't happen, but I'll say it again, the end is closer than you think. I'd rather have Overwatch 2 than NO Overwatch at all...

@@oatstraw Cosmetics in free to play, live service games are in my eyes, more akin to luxury products than just simple monetized player customization. Think Channel purses or red bottom Louboutin's. Status symbols for wealth and power, the most lauded members of our society (earned or not). I know some popular male content creators groan rhetoric about how "support players spend the most money on skins" referencing Mercy and Kiriko, both women with pleasing designs and relatable personalities that drew two separate generations of (instead of saying women-identifying, I'm going to say - those who are inclined to enjoy the feminine nature of design) a whole new audience converted to a style of competitive gaming that for a long time, was male dominated and often felt too intimidating or difficult to ever permeate. With this fresh new audience and their fresh fresh $$$ these live services quickly figured out who to market to, what they're looking for and how it can be sold to them for maximum effective profit. I see this in Apex Legend's cosmetic's evolution - early designs for skins look like weird bugs or action figures while gun skins had spikes and chains a very overall grungy rough and tumble sort of aesthetic. It screamed to me "we think our target audience is 12-16 year old boys!!" Well, turns out kids don't have spare cash to spend on luxury goods, even IMAGINARY luxury good that are only represented on a screen, intangible beyond its medium. But who does? Well, anyone who subscribes to any kind of aesthetic value and how that aesthetic is used to signal to others ~ your status, your values, who you are as a member of society. And it's such a contrast to the original community of pvp gamers lol dudes sitting at home on steam on their giant computers, who are used to everything being marketed to them as "the norm". These men don't spend money on aesthetic items, doubtful in life or in game. So the natural evolution where we now find ourselves, is the game slowly morphing over time to suit the needs and values of those who spend the most cold hard cash on "products" that don't actually exist (no stock, no production cost beyond the one time creation). The girls! The gays! People who love - fashion, magazines, pop culture, status symbols, popular trends and on and on. That's where the money is. So that's the only investment Overwatch 2 can make, is to hard target the core consumer audience with the hopes of finding return on investment. I think any and all money spent by the company on this game has gone straight to the giant IP collabs - One Punch Man, Cowboy Bebop, Transformers... they're on the same IP merry go round that Fortnite has been riding for quite a while. You ever look in a hot topic nowadays? Obscure anime from my youth are now the most profitable IPs in our modern culture? Very odd. This one I still don't understand lol. Anyways collabs like this have been produced with Luxury in mind, top notch marketing, insane animated trailers and music videos, advertising dollars have been spent. They want their luxury items to have all the traits of the traditional world - high quality, beautiful, aesthetically top of class. Whereas anything created from within the company is on a shoe string, you do it for the passion and experience type of jobs, you can see it with their instagram and tiktok. Some poor intern with an internal build of ow2 moving little heros around creating an entire script out of audio assets that were recorded years ago. is it good content? not really. is it effective? meh. All it has to do is exist, it has no purpose beyond that. Same with the battle pass, it doesn't have to please anyone, it simply has to exist to the eyes of the average consumer as having "value" or a "good deal". There's no profit in it, there's also no profit in improving the game to any standard of design or balance or quality being lauded by these content creators. We are not gamers, or players, that are being marketed to but rather a combination of client and addict, that must be lured and appeased to maximum effect for maximum profit. Blizzard is hitting a make or break point with Overwatch 2, largely brought to a head by a disgruntled few stragglers that in any other industry would have moved on long ago. Growing rhetoric is about to hit a fever pitch with this 6v6 debate finally garnering a response from those in charge. I would say - if the loudest and most disgruntled community had 100% overlap with profit, we'd already have 6v6 lol. But I, along with Blizzard, has determined 6v6 to be a non-issue, irrelevant to I'd say, a large section of the current active player base, who lets remember, never played Overwatch 1. Working as a creative for mega corps, I came to develop a 6th sense for any impending incoming doom to my livelyhood. Layoffs, broken promises, situations worse and worse until you start to believe you've entered an alternate dimension. You must understand Blizzard's MO. The game is an evergreen masterpiece, whether with intention or not, has an extremely addictive game loop and learning curve that simply never ends. endless entertainment. hours and hours and hours of user generated content (PVP). They don't have to lift a finger beyond fuelling the servers / the true cost of live service. The conclusion I reached with Apex, and most other games/entertainment sources, is that passion or outrage or caring or confusion or anything you throw at them, it does not matter. The behemoth will continue sauntering forward, releasing cosmetic content per quarter for profit, while everything else gets slimmed down to micro budgets and 'we do it for the passion' hired creatives that have a shelf life of about 6 months before they're spat out always worse for ware. :/ My advice? Take a year off, and when you return there will be more than enough to keep you entertained. Or, they'll cut their losses and put it to sleep. It's called Sunsetting. lol.

99% of that stuff is being outsourced either way and not done inhouse. Like Airborn Studios or Redhill Games etc. wouldn't be surprised if in Blizz they just have like 2 art designers who design the skins and other stuff and lack behind in production so they can just put that much in lel

The only weapon charm you need is the bananas. The only souvenir you need is winton.

It's kinda of funny to see people thinking that filling this battle pass is easy, it's most definitely not, 80 tiers (more or less) of bullshit every couple of months is unreal, it's obvious to anyone who worked in this god awful industry, all the way from coming up with ideas, managing the teams who make the stuff, quality assurance and QA. Be sure most of their effort (same as other ftp games) goes towards silly collabs, heroes, and other cosmetics in general, the whole existence of this game is cosmetic revenue, be sure that's the top 1 priority. sad part is that the gameplay comes maybe 4th in line.

Microsft can hire way more people sure, but they prioritize short term profit, that's what Activtion did, and that's what it will continue to be for many years ahead, the team right now in Team 4 are probably the least talented group Blizzard have ever had and it shows.

@@Vigelle They don't hire them. They outsource most stuff nowadays. From Animations to Skins etc. isn't made for the most part in Blizzard anymore rather Co Development Studios take that over who are specialized on it.

I miss the game I loved

Hi! Warframe player here, I spent around 300 bucks on that game in the past two-three months. 99% of it went on skins. I refuse to pay a cent on Blizzard. Despite how different the games are, they are both F2P. You can earn EVERY skin (and everything else) for free, except for community made skins, which the company splits the money with the original artist for every purchase. NO FOMO. Point is, despite how hard Blizzard is trying to make people pay egregious amounts of money, it won't work if people don't like you and what you have to offer. Blizz has proven that the higher ups have no iota on how to monetize a game, let alone run one. First with the lack of updates for how long again in OW1. Second with 5V5 which no one asked for ( I personally don't REALLY care, but the game was built upon 6V6 for so long that removing one tank made it horrid to play tank. More than it was before. It made tanks into either raid bosses or wet toilet paper ) Third with no TRUE PVE (those shitty 20+ dollar missions no one plays don't count) Don't get me started on some of the balance changes... And a lot more that I cannot think about right now.

@@hiokbye8546 Overall great! But nothing is without it's flaws. The early game experience is lacking, and except some quests, they're just dropping you in an ocean and expect you to swim. Sometimes there's a content drought if you focus on the main game. Some factions have a daily standing cap which is annoying. But it makes sense, some people would just blow through everything in a day without it. And some content islands that don't really connect to anything, not really. But everything else is amazing. The absolute variety of weapons, playable characters, game modes, games, and customizable stuff that other games wouldn't even consider letting you customize it. And yes, games, Warframe is a game with multiple games inside. Fast paced based looter shooter, open worlds (4 and two halfs at this point), space ship battle simulator, souls like, all within one game. Not to mention, we're going to possibly get a new open world (or something similar) relatively soon. You'll never truly be bored if you like everything the game has to offer. I have over one thousand hours in and I'm not even half done with the game.

@@shadezOW i mean, a bit...and by a bit i mean a lot. No spoilers or anything, but the story advanced a lot since 2016. And we're going into another chapter. Back to the future style. Lots of QOL CHANGES, and new game modes (as in completely new games, you can play a souls like for an hour, and then space ship battle simulator the next), many new Warframes. Total enemy health rework(kinda). We now only have health, armored health and shields. Instead of 16 different health types. New enemy faction (Murmur). There's going to be a new update this August, and two more this year. The second update (I think) will give everyone a free Caliban, as he's being reworked.

"if it's in the battlepass it needs to be cool" is the exact opposite of how this works. the battlepass is the grabbag of things blizzard things aren't going to sell on their own sold on quantity rather than quality. the quality stuff goes into store skins.

I mostly agree with you, but getting to pick a mythic skin is better than being given a mythic skin for a character I don't play. Most stuff on the pass should be replaced with currency to let me get customization I want.

the battle pass system isn't what overwatch players really need. People usually play from 3-9 heroes mainly. For instance i play Zenyatta, Ana, Monkey and Lucio and i don't see any value in buying it. Because among 4 my heroes only 2 have some cosmetics (Zen pose+emote and Lucio skin, which i don't like). Making new skins all time available to purchase and giving players some kind of keys (6 legendary and 2 epic) to unlock skins players want would make battle pass much more valueable, but it wouldn't allow Blizzard to sell 20$ Kiriko, Lieweaver and Mercy skins. That asian guy who is responsible for current monetization is a menace Also you got too understand that Blizzard will never replace ingame white currency because thats the only thing and prisms what is usefull for everybody who bought the BP

Hell, even for players like myself, who play every hero (to varying degrees), it's just not worth it. The time (and money) to value prospect, just isn't there. I spent $400 on loot boxes, in OW1. Do you know what that (plus just playing the game) got me? Everything that wasn't tied to OWL, BlizzCon or some other "pay only" source. All the skins, highlight intros, sprays, etc. Now? $400 would barely buy you one legendary skin per hero, in the shop. And even if we're just talking about the BPs, it's ridiculous. $10 every 2 months to not even get my currency back. And if you happen to miss a season/mythic? I hope you like paying $80 for one fucking (maxed out) skin. It's just not worth it. If you only play a handful of heroes, most of this stuff will be useless to you. And if you play heroes, like I do, then there's no way you could ever afford to "keep up" with new releases, unless you make 6 figures a year or something. OW2 is a downgrade in almost every way, from OW1. And even the "new" things that make it compelling, like heroes, we would have gotten anyway, if they never stopped development on the first game. This just sucks, so hard, that it's not even funny.

The fact that HoTS was able to make skins that hit so much harder than those of OW is really unnoticed Damn, HoTS was really something

Legit, I'm done with this game. From the consumer side to the gameplay side, this game is becoming more and more shit every month, I'm deleting it after I complete this season. Every new hero customization option is locked behind a shop or a battlepass, it's fucking annoying. And then they start doing this shit.

Just saying, they reused the beginning of Sojourn's BP highlight intro. It's another one of her highlight intros reused and then combined with a new portion eith explosions. Most of the skins this season are recolor skins. They're desperately relying on thr Lifeguard skins and Pink Mercy to encourage engagement. This shit is SAD.

This is not enough. Most of the BP contents are trash, the skins, souvenirs, profile pics and so on. Check the finals BP, it has so many awesome things to get, and they get you close to 150% of premium currency.

“The true battle comes from within” is the most bland ass voice line in gaming history, and for Zen?? I could bet he already has this voice line before just in different words

Blizzard should literally just copy The Finals. Its a superior BP in every single way.

The quality of this seasons battlepass is really so lackluster... The mythics that released are really cool (ashe and rein weapon) but putting recolors in the bp is almost insulting ngl

I think 100 tiers to the battlepass, they might be forced just to fill things out with bloat. As much as I dislike the devs, they only have a finite amount of time before the next BP has to release.

So battlepass is roughly 20% smaller for the same price, and all of the fillers stay the same (voice lines, free currency etc.) I don't really mind that is getting smaller, I mind that there is not enough free currency for the next battlepass purchase, and the fact that they shown us that they can give us 600 premium currency is even stronger slap in the face. I think giving us 1000 currency would solve the problem TBH, but the point is they would not earn enough money from skins in the shop, because such a few people buy them. I think making battlepass 100 tiers would make it too much of a grind, I think 80 levels is already soo much, I agree with the rest of your suggestions.

The prestige tiers drive me crazy, I absolutely love the titles but I hate the format (5,10,10,10,10,30,20,25) would love if they reworked this, adding skin recolors into the prestige tiers along with titles would be awesome, seeing recolors in the shop is so distasteful.

I just find the bp business model scummy but comparing anything to drg is unfair cause drg is just too good

Blizzard still being greedy? And I remember just a few months back some people tried to convince me that OW2 is changing for the better. Mythic Weapon skins added to shop? Sounds more like devolution to me

The thing for me is they can keep the same amount of levels and just stack the items because I like about OW battlepass is that I don’t have to sit there and play so much to grind it. I wish the challenges where not role specific either when leveling so they could be done passively because in Fortnite I never noticed that them but had so many dumb from just exploring

weapon charms shouldnt be a thing, enemy teams cant see it unless they spectate, or review the match your team cant see, unless they spectate or review they match and it have anything special around it that makes it worth watching (i.e. weapon inspects or something) that already frees up 4 slots for something else like a souvenir, or an emote or a highlight intro

Especially recently the Battlepass has felt more like the things Blizzard created for the season but didn’t know what to do with. It’s all just “the other stuff.” There’s some nice skins I’ve loved in the past BPs that have made me want them. But there’s also a lot of things included that make me narrow my eyes at what their decision making even is. One of the biggest things you notice right away is how few things in the BP fit the theme of the season while the shop is flooded with themed cosmetics. When the BP gets overwhelmed with currencies, souvenirs, and voice lines with the only skins on it not even being relevant to the theme of the season it doesn’t feel worth it. Which is not what a battle pass should be.

Honestly, Blizzard's monetization in this game seems like the bare minimum while still being as greedy as possible. They only give you just "enough" to make it seem like you're getting new stuff. If they redirected progression and rewards, like the free currency, away from the battlepass again that'll just show how bare it is. Why spend money when you can unlock things you like just by playing the game for free?

Fortnite started the whole trend of battle passes and yet every single game that’s tried to copy it has just made it worse. Literally just copy what Fortnite does and you’re good, but they always feel the need to put their own spin on it and it never works.

Icons, voice lines, banners, none of them are stuff you look forward to in the next season, there's no motivation to unlock them, its filler, you dont have them as your go to unlockable, there should be noticeably good stuff in the pass, animated or detailed sprays, weapon skins, weapon flourishes or 1st person animations, maybe bullet trails, and impacts, better highlights, stuff that actually makes you want to get the battle pass instead of filler and a few good stuff

Sooo... This is the Halo Infinite of Overwatch, glad to see every game owned by Microsoft getting shit canned with aggressive micro transactions and FOMO

They used to include other rewards in the same slots with the free currency, but they stopped doing that in season 10 while adding yet another currency to the battle pass… very disappointing tbh.

bliz has no interest in making a quality product. leave your hope at the door.

I refuse to buy Season 11 battle pass, but... You could unlock 1 mytic skin, that's the reason why start selling mytic skins with a new currency, to keep you invested into buying new battle passes, even if the content ain't that good. I truely want to step back from the game, play something else until they fix this. New season start August 20. It's a long way....

i mean he just goes "basically what the free to play games do " how do you know it leads to better sales?

in my opinion another problem with the battle pass is the lack of sprays. i think that with player icons and banners you only need 1 of each. While with sprays or emotes you can equip four per hero. It's weird to think that they give you more of the first ones in the battle pass but the others you normally have to buy with the free currency, it would be nice if it was the other way around. And also that they give use to the souvenirs

There is the argument that the added currencies allow players to earn things that are outside the battlepass, but the amount of premium currency we get cannot give us anything worthwhile (unless it’s a 500 coin emote). I cannot believe that I’m saying this, but blizzard should take a page from Battlefield 2042’s battlepass where you not only earn enough currency to buy the next battlepass, but also enough to get a 20$ skin bundle.

I don't play anymore but this was something i noticed a while ago. Used to get 2 skins on the free trail. Then they took the coins out of the weeklies and put them in the bp. So something else must have dropped out the bp to accommodate that.

the recent battlepasses are better if you're aren't able to complete them. Missing out on say S1 Genji mythic if you didn't get 80 where as now (over the course of a couple seasons) you can buy the mythic you want

the free currency should definitely not be in the BP, as someone with 300k of that currency specifically it’s definitely not fun earning that. cool touch with the kingdom hearts music

I think 1000 coins in the bp is not that good though because you could then just buy the bp every season for free, i feel like rn with 600 being able to get it every 2 seasons is fine

honestly ow3, add loot boxes, 6v6, PVE, balenced competitive and give all the heroes a fighting chance to be viable again.

Am I on crazy pills for liking then new banners? We get less trash and enough premium currency to get every other pass premium for free. On top of that we get enough of the lower currency to shop for classic skins. I dunno losing 2 pass skins for that seems great. Most every lost is basically filler or cheap enough to again buy the few good ones with the free currency so i dont see how the old battlepass competes in anyway with the new one.

I noticed this but saw no one pointing this out, this really makes me feel as if the game will die soon cause they can't even complete the battle pass content. Almost all of the skins in the battle pass are the mediocre ones. They brought back pink mercy cause this was possibly one of their most desperate attempts, and that was also why they added mythic mercy last season. I gues blizzard finally killed it with worse monetization and the horrible balance
