Overview Of The Mints - 9 Places That The U.S. Produced Coins From 1792-Present
We all know about the Philadelphia mint (or maybe not), which is the main place that the federal government makes coins, but what about the Dahlonega mint? Or the Charlotte mint? How about Carson City? This video explores the history of the 9 mints that have made coins for the government over the past 235-ish years and what the mint marks and rare coins that escaped them were. There was also individual history in terms of the circumstances that lead to their opening and closing. The ones we will cover include the Denver mint, Philadelphia Mint, San Francisco mint, Dahlonega mint, Carson City mint, West Point mint, Charlotte mint, New Orleans mint, and the Manila mint.

Thanks for uploading this. I find the history of the US Mints fascinating. I'd love to find a book on the subject. I have to say that West Point really does let the side down architecturally!

After learning that the first US mint opend 1792 - what kind of coins were used before? Did they continue using british coins?
@TreasureTownCoins

Yes! The predominant forms of currency were British and Spanish - we banned foreign coins as late as 1857. Back then it was about silver and gold content. We also had colonial copper coins for small change.

@@TreasureTownCoins Thank you very much. Taken the current standing of the US into account, it is interesting, that the early US haven't these kind of strength and used foreign coins.
Charlotte and Dahlonega were gold coins only, if I remember right?
