Overlanding Utah: Not your typical overland trip

Ойын-сауық

A short film produced by Offtrak Expeditions on our trip heading north through the Utah BDR. This trip was nothing like we expected and was reported as the worst weather to hit the area since 1991. Snow, sleet, rain, hail, high winds, winter warnings were a daily occurrence on this week-long adventure at the end of May in 2019. Enjoy!

We thought this might get only a couple hundred views or so since it's so long and it takes us longer to put out content. So to see it explode and everyone's comments is crazy. Thank you to everyone for that! A little more explanation on things. We are a family that travels together and likes to have fun. We are still learning, we're not perfect and don't try to be. But we go out as much as we can and get better everyday. How else should you learn? Tire pressures in the beginning. Yes we aired down. One, because we were at 45psi driving on the highway for 2 days, two because it's more comfortable, and 3 we saw the weather dropping and it's always better to be prepared before you run into issues. Editing, it's a one man band. Trying to film, take photos, edit etc all while I lead and try to help newer drivers through new experiences. I understand it's not perfect, but this is fun for me outside my normal job. If you dont like it, then that's cool too. It's not for everyone. Tires, we dont run MT tires because the ATs are better for 99% of everything we do. We arent going out trying to find danger or get a trophy for going through mud. We want to go to places others only read about online. If that's taking a paved road then great, hard packed that's good too. We arent going for best 4x4 extreme test award here. Equipment, we do go prepared. Even on easy trails we have people die in the NW every year because they ran out of water and didnt air down their tires. Only a few miles from an exit. We'd rather be comfortable and safe then stripped down and "rugged". Hopefully that answers your questions a bit. Please know we appreciate all of your support and hope we could provide at least a little entertainment while sharing our families story!

How he the LandRovers been holding up for y'all?? I've been really Considering an lr3 or lr4 for a while now but get nervous from some of the horror stories I've seen on the internet. So far I've researched the LR4 and k ow about the timing chain guide issues which were solved mid 2012 from what I understand but still have to look into the lr3.

My wife and I drive the LR3. The blue LR4 is driven by our youngest son. The silver FJ is driven by our oldest son and his girlfriend drives the white LR4 and has been an awesome addition to our family. We do things together as a family. We drove sports cars together, then motorcycles, and now 4x4s. We've done multiple BDRs and look forward to the next off road adventure together.

I keep hearing everyone talk of reliability issues of LR4. My brother drove his LR3 for 170,000 miles with only a air suspension replacement and multiple brake services, then bought a V8 LR4 that is now close to 80,000 miles with out a single issue so far. However I must admit that I had to file for a lemon law on a 2016 Range Rover for electronic issues.

Nice video. I've been in UT since 1980, got my first L88 (defender 90) in 1973, safari roof, etc. Drove a 1999 Disco II for 15 years, an RR 09 HSE, and I'm still driving an LR4 HSE Lux 2016. I drove Land Rovers in Argentina and Bolivia, where roads are optional. If you take care of the vehicles, they will last a long time. I've been in 16 countries, retired military. I service my vehicles with Amsoil 100% synthetic oil, change the oil every 20 thousand miles. There is nothing better than getting dirty in style.

Fantastic video and a shock to me as a Brit. I thought Utah was all about heat and dust! That clay looks like the typical stuff we have in the UK all year around. Nice to see the LRs doing so well. It is what they were built for. I am a LR fanatic and have several. For long tough expeditions there is still nothing to beat the Defender BUT in slippery conditions all the fancy modern traction control stuff makes life a lot easier and safer.

I’m new to your channel, this is actually my first viewing of it and as a car guy ALL I watch on KZread are car Chanels from high horsepower builds to hoonigan to detailing to street racing etc. and I gotta say, the quality and time you obviously put into your content is amazing. This is literally like something that can be a show on the motor trend app. Great work.

I had made a lot of research on the LR3 but hadn't yet pulled the trigger on one, this video defenitely was one of the tipping points on me getting one. 7 months of owning one and its been ok no mayor issues, needs some work but all in all it been great, no mods yet just trying to do preventive maintance little by little, its not my daily driver so i am in no rush but still can't wait to get it on baja trails

Great content. Love the editing. 38:00 onwards is a steep learning curve for how to use a vehicle with a low ratio gear box and also HDC. These things are your friend in conditions like this. Just "planting the gas" can cause issues and is the least safe way to off road.
