Man I wish I lived closer. Iโd love to do a ride along. I just found you recently, and Iโm starting to do mechanic work for some friends and family. I charge them little to nothing because I enjoy it and Iโm learning. Thanks for making videos for people like me. Keep up the awesome work, we appreciate it!

If you know what you are doing, charge a rate...
I like the multi purpose use of the jack handle for a hood prop :-)
You should get that company that' provided the bolt holder to make some that are job specific with a pattern in it to put the bolts or some kind of overlay
Awesome as always man. Keep it up
Love your videos man your an inspiration for me to also do something similar to you for a living
I don't know if this would work on today's new fangled engines but short of visible leaks, I used to just remove the thermostat and make a few high speed passes to see if the engine would overheat. In all of my years of wrenching on my cars, I can't remember any thermostat failing. I usually only changed them as a preventative measure while changing hoses, pumps, etc.
Leaking intake manifold. Common on 5.4 triton.

Had mine replaced on my 4.6L. Plastic parts.
Awesome channel
I called into work for this update.
Always use a hard hat and safety glasses whenever you work on a 5.4 triton ๐คฃ those spark plugs are sneaky buggers. All jokes aside, my 5.4L 2v from 2000 is still running amazing.
My opinion : itโs best to diagnose the job yourself and the customer must pay, customers do not be cheap when it comes to working on cars and trucks these are your wheels that take you from point A to B quickly and safely itโs not worth a break down on A freeway or a dark lonely road I do work work on my own car and other peoples cars and trucks. That is the best place to start with a coolant flush and a new thermostat a new radiator cap or (coolant reservoir cap) also check the fan belt or serpentine belt, as long as there is water flow and there are no leaks and system holds pressure we should be good to go!!!
Replace both. I had an old Jeep and I replaced thermostat and put in bars leak drove another 20 thousand. Then had to replace both pump and stat
@sterrshow5016
3 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
Bars leak and other coolant additive are WHY water pumps go bad!!
I removed the thermostat and it drove fine for a day then started overheating again. Seen that the radiator cap was so I replaced that too. Still overheating
You ever pull one of the 5.4l or 4.6l from one of these trucks? I'm currently working on pulling a 4.6l for my neighbor and it's probably one of the most difficult engine swaps I've ever had a hand it, I'm making good progress but it's giving me hell every step of the way, so if you got any tips or tricks with that that would be much appreciated. I've basically got it ready to pull minus the exhaust flange bolts, bell housing bolts and still need to pull the intake but been trying to knock out all the really difficult stuff first.
So the boltster is just a large honeycomb silicone pot holder with the middle material removed?
Thanks for this video. You mentioned in this case that the coolant was low initially, is that a symptom of a thermostat problem? I get spikes in temperature on my 2003 expedition after a few minutes running, which thankfully after several nervous seconds returns to normal. It is losing coolant without any obvious signs of a leaking hose etc. The oil is clear, so hopefully not a gasket issue. I have ordered an OEM thermostat and o-ring, but wonder if I need to search further for a leak.
@RoadsideRescue
7 ะฐะน ะฑาฑััะฝ
Sounds like a coolant/ t-stat issue. Hopefully its a slow leak or not one at all! Good luck!
Yea just put a thermostat in my 5.4 and it's still over heating when I put it in gear guessing water pump let me know what you think
that bolster matt seems ok, but a good old magnetic tray is better imo.
I lived in Kuwait were it super hot weather , car looks old check radiator cap
I've never been this early to a video

YOU HAVE TO GO SLOW TO GO FAST BIG-E!
Oh no. You made the mistake of opening the hood of a 5.4. Those spark plugs are going to come flying out of the engine soon. ๐ The one I had blew two out of the head on me. Broke the coil on plugs as well.
I donโt know how you work on these cars outside in the heat. My ass sweats and is worn out after detailing a car outside for 2 hours

@xPreatorianx1
4 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
responsibilities bud. You do what you have to when you have bills and kids. And when you rely on your vehicle to get you to work, it breaks down, rain or shine, freezing or hot weather, you fix it.
Hard to see what your doing your not zoomed in
I disagree with not diagnosing it, even if another shop diagnosed it. At the end of the day you did the work and it will come back to bite you. People talk and when you throw the parts canon at it based on someone elseโs hues it makes you look bad. Also itโs a 5.4l most likely leaky intake manifold. A little research will save you in the end. People will ask and when someone says it took you 2, 3, 5, or 8 parts to fix it, it will be a turnoff for to possible new customers. Spend 10 minutes give it a good visual, and again google is you friend. Just google 5.4l triton coolant loss. See what comes up. Start looking there first instead of guessing
@Angelo80907
3 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
100% agree with you this is such a bad practice as a mechanic just put on the new part and hope for the best. I like this channel but seen so many misdiagnosis made by the lack of knowledge on his part is cringing! ๐ฌ
@RoadsideRescue
3 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
Iโll have you know I havenโt uploaded any videos with a missed diagnosis. Haha. There have been a rare few but if they wonโt pay for the diag then they get to chose what happens.
Definitely a brown head gasket ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ
thats very unprofessional so how do you guarantee the job?
thermostats dont make you lose coolant. water pumps do
@nickelback1013
4 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
Bad thermostat gaskets do though
@tenmillionvolts
4 ะถัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
If it boils, it will shoot the coolant out so either can cause coolant loss
