Gran análisis, es de mucha ayuda, las estrategias de Pérez y Stroll fueron de las mejores, y muy efectivas 👌👌
Love the analysis!
Hamilton said he was saving the tyres, he listened to the engineer and pitted anyway. The Hamilton fans last year when Russel was in the car were shouting that Lewis would have made his own decision and not pitted and therefore not messed up the pitstop. Sure this is monaco so you have to listen to the engineer more closely but this still dispelled that myth.
Great analysis, Jolyon. Well done.

I love listening to Jolyon. The way he doesn't feign uncontrolled passion about everything he's saying is such a calming relief after listening to David Croft for two hours.
On the Mercedes You Tube site, James Voyles explained the reasons for pitting early before everyone else. They figured that whatever they did, Gasly was going to stay out and force Hamilton to pit first whether it was lap 29, 30, 35 or whatever. So an overcut was impossible. Staying out on worn tires and this being exacerbated by being a following car may have allowed Gasly in the next few laps to pull out a larger gap, reducing the chances of Hamilton passing him on the pit stop rotation ( Gasly came out of the pits only .2 seconds ahead of Hamilton, when it actually happened this which is VERY close). They already were seeing Perez and Vettel picking up the pace behind them and were worried about losing out to them on the rotation if Lewis stayed out any longer. It ended up happening anyway because Lewis' out lap on cold hard tires was slower than expected but there was nothing they could have done about this.
Perhaps next year they can dispense with shutting down the streets of Monaco for a weekend. Just have a pole qualifier, and then decide it on who can do the fastest and best strategised pit stop. Let's face it, there is nothing happening on the track on race day.

Yeah. I've never understood the "boring" moniker Monaco have gotten. I've been following formula 1 for 25 years now, and passes aren't the only appeal to racing. Strategies, and especially how to utilize when to do pit stops and not, is one of the interestning and exciting parts of formula 1 to me. Driver skill is important, and can be shown on many tracks. Team strategy "skill" is also important, and will be revealed on other tracks, like Monaco. I prefer this variety over every track being the same with hundreds of overtakes as the main/only bit of excitement.
Nice to finally see the fight between Gasly and Vettel, since the race camera director didn't think one of the few bits of action was worth watching.
I enjoy hearing Jolyon Palmer’s analysis. Shame his career didn’t turn out but glad he could still find work in the F1 circus.
