Overcoming Ego - Abdal Hakim Murad

Donate Today: cambridgemuslimcollege.ac.uk/...
---
Take a moment of pause this Ramadan. Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad reminds us that Ramadan teaches us about sabr (patience) and overcoming the ego. Stressing the importance of 'ubudiyyah, a return to the garden-like state, he tells us how we can achieve this through Wilayah - being in a state of closeness to the Divine.

But he still skipped the real question by Mr.Rowan Atkinson, that why did G-d got his his middle finger cut while opening a can of cat food for a starving stray cat which he didn't even like? I have converted to Islam 13 years ago alhamdoulilah. The way this Shaykh speaks puts words to what drew me in the first place to Islam. Sadly I feel as though I lost sight of many things. By listing to him, it rekindles the beloved fire that was once in me. The balance in the way he speaks with wisdom and adab he projects is very refreshing and much needed. May Allah reward him immensely. Amine

We all experience something like this even those of us who were born into the faith. It's human nature I guess, in time we forget what really matters until we are reminded of it. The word for human "insan" and the word for forgetfulness "nisyan" have a common root in Arabic. I love the shaikh as well as he offers great reminders.

May Allah swt keep you firm on this Deen. It is not an easy road to take, and iman always goes up and down. Do good deeds to increase your iman, and stay away from sin to not decrease it. Surround yourself with God fearing people who can help you on this path. Peace.

unless we move forward in the deen we withdraw and move down. İ imagine it as like climbing up a mountain. Unless you go up, you eventually go down so you are reminded by that downward movement that you should continue moving toward. Move higher, dig deeper, you will find something sweeter upfront. I was in the same way for years and now with quantum pyhsics all other new scientific era, and tasawwuf- deeper islam made me fall in love with the system everyday more.

AA Every day I promise myself that I will not feel offended and would not be bitter. But then in the first few minutes I fail every single day while at work. My job is to offer health advice and I feel it is my duty to insist on what the current knowledge tells us. And then one of them will come up with his own solution for their illness which may actually harm them. I try to argue. And then I fail because only I know I have gone bitter. I have not given up yet and am working on my ego and am trying to tell myself that I am just a human. My job is to pass on the message. Winning every debate with parents is probably beyond my capacity. I should not be bitter. Their argumentative response is my test of patience. I must always be polite and humble.

@@travelpk2224 because you identify too much with your ego...when things that go against the content of your ego happen you feel threatened in fact your whole identity might feel threatened and so that causes anger and suffering. But who you think you are is not who you really are. You are mentally conditioned since an early age so you perceive and interpret reality through this veil. Try to tame your ego or create a bit of space between your true self and your thoughts and you will start perceive reality with a new set of fresh "eyes" !

You most certainly are not ! Your kept from so much truth. Millions are leaving islalm every year because of the huge mountains of lies your teachers and apoligists spread about Jesus and christianity ,and even about Islam. We hear constantly from Muslims who have found Jesus just how shocked they was to hear what the Truth actually was. For example , Muslims are told the bible is Corrupt ?? .when the actual amount Scholars agree on , christian and none Christian , isn't even 1 %.Infact it's around half%. This half % effects none of our doctrine. Plus it certainly doesn't explain just how vastly different the Quran is from the Bible , which presents muslim teacher's with a huge problem considering how many times Muhammad affirmed the injeel and Torah . Your heading for hell fire for eternity because of the lies your told by those you believe and trust with the salvation of your very soul.

In the name of Allah(swt) the most beneficent the most merciful. Ramadan for me has been the discovery of this sheiks lectures. He takes me back to my university days where you go to your professor and request a meeting where you need a question answering. A good professor would often say “have you considered this?” In response to your question and after a half hour chat you leave with 25 other questions and a two week spell at the library. He applies academia to everything and forces you to consider and reconsider things you thought were definite. He is a credit to Islamic scholarship in England. Inshallah it moves the ummah in the UK to shift from a south East Asian perspective to an academic perspective which looks at reality as we see it.

7afida Ela ....Buhahahahahaha Hahahahahahaha. .... But he still skipped the real question by Mr.Rowan Atkinson, that why did G-d got his his middle finger cut while opening a can of cat food for a starving stray cat which he didn't even like? And when all the lazy people were sitting on their couches enjoying this ^^spiritual video or singing hyms at the Church, and on the same day murderers get away without even a single crease on their clothes. Why Why Why??? (Please not the same recycled crap that ultimately we're all going to heaven/ we're all sinners blah blah blah blah....)

@@AsadAli-jc5tg No, ultimately we are not all going to heaven. Yes, we are all sinners. The problem of evil has no force when it comes to disproving the existence of Allah. Your eyes can't see themselves and your teeth can't bite themselves, you don't even understand your own senses fully so how do you expect to understand the divine wisdom that is all-encompassing? It is a sign of sheer arrogance for us to take the problems of this world and use that to disprove a God that gave us existence in the first place. Everything here belongs to Allah anyways; if He takes away a blessing He is not being unjust in the slightest of senses since that blessing didn't belong to us in the first place.

I am almost envious of your connection with the Divine. Perhaps he is bestowing his grace freely upon those of us who listen, because as you imply, we are in the extreme stages of humanity. The beauty of our creator is evident from the beginning to the end. In the end, we make his fourth creation for it.

Our heart-felt salams and respect for you Sh. Abdul Hakim. Praying for you to be continually supported by the Divine so that you can continue to disseminate these gems of Wisdom to the Muslim world. May you and all of us be accepted, as you have mentioned in the Holy Hadith, as among those people "whom Allah loves." ... Prayers and Blessings on the Holy Prophet SAS. Ameen.
