I agree with Abdal Hakim Murad. I have lived in Thailand, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Peru (all poor countries) and I found for myself that the people in these countries were on average much kinder and more generous than in my own wealthy country (Britain). I have come to dislike the company of the rich and the well educated (with few exceptions) because they tend to have harder hearts and more arrogance than the poor and less well educated.

The quintessential British humour 😊
Jordan Peterson and Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad should have a dialogue in Cambridge. Their combined insights would be greatly appreciated by many, similar to the impact of the Hamza Yusuf interview. Discussing the "religion of nature" (dīn al-fiṭrah) with Jordan, especially in relation to our inherent nature and understanding of evolutionary history and archetypes, would be enlightening. They can explore the balance of psychology, spirituality, and philosophy. The points made by Shaykh Murad on 'The Nature of Nature' delving into the philosophical and psychological implications of human understanding of the self from an islamic point of view would resonate with and potentially complement Jordan's expertise, bridging any gaps in his islamic understanding of Fitra and Submission.
Alhamdulillah that i have been guided out of a long career in pharma and into non profit environmental justice despite a huge title and pay cut. This is not by accident and money no longer serves humanity.

Absolutely brilliant
Thanks for these interviews.. I've enjoyed every single one.
Ill answer the maximization question bro. In capitalism the driving principle is to maximize profits for the shareholders (stakeholders) at any cost. In Islamic economy the driving principle is to maximize benifit for the citizens. For example in an islamic system if govt decided on a project they would take survey and offer companies to propose. Once all the proposals and bids come in the community would choose that project which would most benifit the most number of citizens.
There’s a lot to learn from this discussion, and a useful reminder of what’s actually needed to attain a happier life. Thanks
What a great interview, I wish it was longer. Thank you both!

Assalamu Alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak. First time watching your interview. I am a regular listener of Shaykh s lectures. Overall, well thought-out, probing, and relevant questions. This interview captivated me with its wealth of knowledge and informative content. I want to express my gratitude to you brother, for delivering such a captivating interview.
Such a lesson in change management and alternative proposals! Its fair to say that whoever holds onto the Quran words of the Eternal will not be bound by the fluctuations of time. And we should always see those fluctuations as a good opportunity to strive and do good. Allah is the greatest.
IFG did a great job in interviewing the shayekh, imo. I love the man for his brilliant talks and he just oozes a different class, but it is important to note that even deep philosophical or spiritual knowledge has to be translated into practicalities. Which is why both sufis and businessmen have their places in Islam and you cannot be sufficient with just the sufi anymore than you'd be with just the businessman. I think this is the first interview I've seen where shayekh Murad didn't have the necessary answer, and that in a sense is a credit to him and to Islam imo

Historically, Sufism was not isolated from the realities of the practical life. It always was integrated with personal and professional world, and elevated both to a higher ethical and behavioral standard. Sufi tariqas and lodges have often been associated with certain professions. The accusation that authentic sufism is detached from practical realities of life is unfair and historically inaccurate.

Brother fahim. We need only Sufis who renounce the Dunya in their hearts. This is the goal of our religion. But in agreement to the spirit of your comment, some Sufis are encouraged to seek the Dunya to help others if they have the capacity/acumen to do so while striving to keep the Dunya away from their hearts. Others who are not suited are limited to what is obligated. Yes we need both, if that what was meant in your first comment. Many saints and friends of Allah were rich, but their wealth was truly primarily to help others and the Ummah. They said O Allah make the Dunya in our hands (so it could be an instrument to do good) not in our hearts (so we don't get attached to it).
Very true 👍
Salam. Great interview/conversation/discussion. May I understand more on what the Sheikh meant when he said ‘women in mosque’ and the other guy responded with ‘god forbid’. Thanks.

A bit surprised that although Zakat was mentioned very briefly, the importance of using wealth to help aid so many millions of Muslims living in poverty. Mothers who see their children crying with hunger daily. The importance for vastly wealthy going behind just Zakat. Instead poverty was talked of as a kind of ascetic ideal😮
Some constructive criticism. Please practice your questions before asking. The questions took an age and were incoherent at some points. Should have got more out of such a great thinker of our times. I believe the interviewer was trying to ask if Muslims should take a lead in innovation, technology and finance in order to lead the way rather than taking a passive herd following approach. Bottom line is, Shaykh leans towards the akhira an not dunya.

Ha - it would be fair criticism only there's one complication: the man opposite is a genius. So we were off the agenda by question 2 and operating on a philosophical plane that required me to have an early night that day. 😅

Very Interesting and Stimulating conversation mA. Ibrahim kept trying to press the Shaik on the validity of wealth seeking for Muslims but shaik seemed to keep putting it off as a not so noble pursuit. I still wonder though if Muslims take the backseat on wealth creation wouldn't we be always the people of the lower hand rather than the upper hand. It would be good to summarise some of the key takeaways from this chat.

Haroon, you are making a very important point. I wish there was a hour long substantive panel discussion just on this point probing it from various angles. There is a statement attributed to Ali(RA) on this (I am paraphrasing) : "as long as wealth is in your hand, and not in your heart, it is ok" However, the discussion needs to delve into the tangible realities of today's world, including how much time one should spend daily towards acquiring wealth, to what extent and for what purpose we can depend on the credit mechanism of modern banking system, etc.
@ighfirlee
Жыл бұрын
But wealth is dependent on the heart, not money and assets.
Does anybody know the name of the survey that Sheikh Abdul Hakim was referring to in the beginning?
I'm shocked about the sheikh's views on renewables. He has no idea. These are not renewables. They are first and foremost unreliables. Fossil fuels are needed and in greater quantities. That's the reality. Solar and wind energy is a dead-end. Too expensive, and very poor in terms of yield.
Thank you for changing the videos image text
Can you provide the translation for the things Ibrahim is saying in Arabic? I have no clue what he's saying when he drops these hadith or verses of Quran

Salaam Alaykum Ibrahim, Three things: thanks for conducting the good interview. I usually disagree with some of his analysis of the Umah. I like the way you start it. The muslim ummah nowdays have few scholars like Sheikh Murad. Just how many scholars do we know now are so well educated, so articulate and has rich knowledge like him? You ask a youngster what Fikh is they will ask you if its some kind of clothing brand? What I see now is that muslims worldwide, or the majority of them don't dive deep about Islam is all about? Salam brother, thank you so much for this interview - may Allah reward you and Sh Abdul Hakim. It was so insightful and had me laughing... 33:20 took me out 😂
Alhamdulillah this was great interview. I disagree with the culture aspect. I think it's a trend with middle class Muslims who assimilate that more often than not they lose themselves and are more Liberal and secular than anything else. Language is not just language but shapes our way of thinking, in pakistani languages simple things like how you call your elders has a element of reverence and respect attached to it. You see family bonds and parent respect lost more in the gen who are more British. I think another undeniable aspect is modesty, sadly look at a lot of third gen sisters and brothers they have very little concept of modesty because they have very little of their parents culture and are fully adapted to British culture. That's why they struggle with hijab because that socialisation through culture doesn't happen and they have no sense of hayah or shame. That's because the west long ago did away with that. Not saying everything is bad and we can learn and meet half way, but I think lots of important aspects of culture should be preserved especially language which connects to a larger part of the ummah outside of just britian
👍👍👍
