If someone you know and love is showing signs of emotion distress and doesn’t want to share what is going on, what are some things you can say to them to help?

Empathize with their struggle. Ask if there is anything you can do to help (no sharing required) and let them know that you care and are there anytime they need you. People who have experienced trauma or who are just introverts often prefer to figure things out then share instead of talking it out like us extroverts do.
