Overclocking the GTX 650

Ғылым және технология

We explore the forgotten potential of the GTX 650 with a subtle overclock with a mix of both new and classic game titles.
---
This video is a bit of a Spiritual successor to my “Overclocking the 5450” video made many years ago. The intro gives a bit of a nod to that video.
This video is a bit of a humorous story really in the sense that WilleWD and I thought it would be fun to try pump out a fast video giving a nod to the 5450 one. To challenge ourselves to see how fast we can make a video.
However I went down a rabbit hole of making graphics, buying a smoke machine to get cool shots and wanting to
get proper game capture footage.
Almost 2 weeks later, here we are. I hope it will make for an enjoyable watch.
Special thanks to WilleWD and his sister for their production assistance.

Bro same. In fact I didnt have any PC and was totally broke as a kid(my parents were not really financially good back then). However this video gaved me hope and motivation that one day I will build or get something similar, which indeed happened few years later when I got into high school. Crazy to think that now I have a PC which back then I couldnt even dream of! This just proves that If you believe into something you can accomplish anything. It make take some time, step by step but It will be worthy. Damn, typing this comment made emotional for f sake 😅

I remember buying this exact 650 brand new and being so, so impressed coming from antique Pentium 4 systems with equally antique video. And yet, it's beyond even low-end now and i've got an RTX 3090. Where'd the time go? And yes, mine had that same buzz coming from it's fan. Probably the most audible noise my PC made at the time. Loved it anyway.

The GTX 650 was my first ""gaming"" GPU, before that I had one of the GT GPUs not the GTXs, when I first tried Battlefield 3 with it and went from 19~21 fps at lowest settings 1366x768, to 30 fps on Ultra at the same resolution (that was the native res from my monitor), my mind was blown, I have only good memories with it and now that I have a laptop with the GTX 1650, I feel like this card never really left me, great video.

The internet is truly blessed to have a "PC Gaming" channel like yours! Aside from the cinematography being just absolutely unique for this genre of KZread videos, you explore things that many others do not really look back on too often (like the GTX 650 or an HD CRT). I think it would be cool to do something with Windows 7 one of these days since everyone in their 20s seems to be getting quite nostalgic about it now. It truly was the peak of Windows.

My friend once had a GTX 650. It was actually the exact same model as the one in the video. EVGA always tended to trend on the side of caution, with overpowered cooling and VRMs. The overclocking potential of the GTX 650 comes as no surprise. Kepler is a very interesting architecture, it was unrefined but had lots of potential. The GTX 650 paved the way of the Maxwell GTX 750 and GTX 750Ti. It could be said Kepler and Maxwell was the last generation for budget gamers on price to performance on the new market. Truly a legendary card from back in the day.

I owned one of these in my first (built by me anyways) gaming rig, this was the best card ever because its so understated, the 1 gb of VRAM is the limiting factor but the fact their is a 2 GB version makes it actually be a compelling extreme budget choice. I have a 2 GB and the aforementioned one I owned was a 1 GB card. Both are beautiful GPUs in their own rights.

Hello Tim, I am very long time fan! It may be worth researching fan made, open source or community made drivers that keep old cards alive. These can help extend it's life, as well as the overclocking. It was great to see some huge gains with the OC, especially some of the 0.1% lows that doubled. LowSpecGamer has now left the scene of getting the most out of minimum specs, moving to a journalistic approach of the industry. This does leave a gap for someone who has a love of old cards to optimise game settings, using settings file tweaks, low resolutions/settings, frame generation wth FSR and many more techniques to make what seem impossible to run games, actually possible. A series testing games minimum specs, and then overclocking those parts to see what you can get out of them would be great. Furthermore how with a small budget you can increase your FPS per 'currency'. The good thing about minimum specs is that they are old, affordable and easy to work with, with lots of online documentation.

Again a video that could be a boring mess of KZread junk. The 1000 time test of an old hardware. But no my friends this video is informative and sparkles from the creativity and effort put into it. Thanks again GHG.

Time flies! I remember wishlisting and bookmarking the ASUS 650 and the 660/ti's because they seemed so good

Ahh reminded me of the days when I had a 860M Laptop. Probably not exact performance but maybe somewhere there. Right after that laptop I managed to snatch a GTX 1060 full sized GPU in a laptop and it still serves me till today. Never underestimate older hardware.

I had forgotten all about your channel because you hadn't posted in years. Now that I've got a KZread ID and they recommended a video I'll have to catch up with the past two years, all 8 videos that I apparently missed.
