Over the Rainbow - Judy Garland - Oct 7, 1938 - Recording Session
Here is a partial recording of Judy Garland's recording session for The Wizard of Oz. Taking place on October 7, 1938, this is the recording session where she would first record what would be her signature song, "Over the Rainbow."
The takes have been mostly synced to the film's final footage. Editing on the final take remains unfinished. Originally intended to be uploaded on the now defunct Rare Media Archive of Musical Theare channel, the video was instead rendered and uploaded, in this unfinished form, to my personal channel ( / justinhoskie ) to honor the anniversary of this recording.

Never heard this before. Fascinating. The final cut was perfection to my ears, but obviously a lot of hard work and expertise went into getting there to create perhaps the greatest piece of cinema magic in the whole history of movies.
While Recording Over the Rainbow Judy Coughed At The First Take
This beautiful, classic Academy Award Winning Song recorded on October 7, 1938, is the best version ever! This song truly belongs only to Judy Garland! I am so glad the slower version was used in the final movie! Both versions are excellent!
It doesn't get any better than this! Judy Garland at only 16 who portrayed Dorothy Gale and Terry the female Cairn Terrier who portrayed Toto in the 1939 MGM classic movie The Wizard of Oz is pure movie magic!

The legendary, adorable, beautiful, very intelligent and extremely talented Judy Garland is the perfect Dorothy Gale! Thank you for posting and sharing this beautiful, classic Academy Award Winning song and performance!
I’m not entirely sure but I think what they did was combine takes five and six to make the cut that appeared in the movie. Sounds like they took the "Somewhere over the rainbow, wayup high" in the beginning from take five and then took that part out of take six and left the rest of it.
This beautiful, classic Academy Ward Winning song truly belongs only to Judy Garland! The Octor7, 1938 recording is the best ever and so is this movie clip!
I can't wrap my mind around the fact that this is literally a baby singing with this level of passion and artistry. There will never be another Judy.
