    Just what I've been looking for. I just discovered Ovation, and told my brother. He laughed and said I've been missing out. I'm looking to buy first personal six string. As I've been playing Bass for a short time. but I'm itching to play something a lot more melodic. So far, the Ovation seems to tickle my fancy. It also looks like something I'd play at Ren Fairs or the like. lol

    Funny and sad at the same time for ME. In the early seventies I bought my first Ovation (BEFORE they had electronics!) LOVED it, so in 1975 I bought 3 MORE (a 6-string GC Custom, a 12-string GC Custom, and the NYLON 1624 Country Artist). In 1980 I purchased a GORGEOUS Natural Custom Legend. I then had FIVE (5) Ovations that I loved... By 1984 I had FOUR (4) Ovations with SPLIT TOPS, in the SAME PLACE!!! (from the bridge to the bottom of the lower bout, STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE on 3, STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE, then turned right towards the treble side and lifted about 3 inches on the CUSTOM LEGEND!) The ONLY one that hasn't split is the NYLON one, which I still play TODAY. Sorry Ovation, ONE would be a "FREAK THING", TWO would be a "COINCIDENCE", but FOUR is way BEYOND acceptable... I had no choice but to take my business ELSEWHERE, and never looked back. Still love my NYLON, and on the 'bright side", believe it or not, the CUSTOM LEGEND with the "lifted top", STILL holds TUNE! LOLOLOLOL... GO FIGURE!

    I have a 1995 Elite Standard, i bought it back in 1995. It still sounds incredible, but i think it got the same problem. The top around the bridge cracks, also the bottom grape sound hole is lifted. I live in Indonesia where the humidity is high (60%-70% all of the year) so I put the silica gell/dehumidifier inside the case when I don't use the guitar. Thanks for cycling through the various models. I am inclined towards a shallow or super shallow type due to an old shoulder injury that hates my rather thick dreadnaught. I am mostly a strummer guitar player. Can someone outline the sound differences between these two types? Thanks. 🙏

  • @Evrakuf

    @Evrakuf

    3 жыл бұрын

    According to me (the guy playing in the video), the super shallows have a bit more mid to them. At the same time the sound is suprisingly full, with a nice low end. Although they don't quite match the loudness of the mid depth and deep contour models. In summary i would say that the super shallow is a good choice, especially in regard to format/sound quality. If i were to choose a model it would probably be a super shallow variant because of what's stated above :).

  • @Evrakuf

    @Evrakuf

    3 жыл бұрын

    I have never had that problem actually. Having the jack on the back side is not a problem as long as you play the guitar in a "standard" way. Hi, Changing to a bone nut will subtly change the tone of the guitar. You will not notice a difference when playing bar chords (because the strings doesn't resonate over the nut when playing those kinds of chords). You will however notice a difference when playing open chords. It will also be more durable than a plastic nut.

  • @Evrakuf

    @Evrakuf

    3 жыл бұрын

    I agree with you, the plugged in sound is not as good as one would want. Next time i'm thinking about putting a mic in front of one of our high end acoustic guitar amplifiers. This should remedy many of the problems with the plugged in sound in this video. When i created this video i plugged in to a Zoom H6, of course with Hi-Z activated. The point of this was to demonstrate the "raw" performance of the piezo mic but exactly as you point out, this was not a good way to communicate this.

  • @Evrakuf

    @Evrakuf

    It might be that we have try to find a way to "communicate" the plugged in sound better, maybe by recording it another way. Plugged in i think Ovation really does sound good, especially compared to other brands in the same price range.

    It could also be a matter of how you EQ it through your system and how you're transferring that sound to the listeners ears, whether live or through a recording. I do think that the mics sounded amazing, it may just be that the sound needs to be a little more polished from the pickup(EQ, reverb, compression/sustain, etc.).
