OutRunners Longplay (Arcade) [QHD] [All Routes]

Ойындар

Developed and published by Sega in 1992
The third and final game in the classic super scaler series of OutRun games takes things to a new level, featuring a huge number of routes through the game, and a big selection of vehicles to choose from. It's a big improvement over Turbo OutRun, a game I'm not especially fond of, and while it's not as iconic as the 1986 original, it's a pretty darn fun game. Interestingly, you can feel the influence of OutRunners in OutRun 2: Coast to Coast, which looks and handles similarly to its 2D forebear.
On a technical level, the transition from the venerable Motorola 68000 CPUs used in previous super scalar hardware to RISC-based MIPS architecture in the System 32 hardware resulted in an upswing in processing power, used to good effect by enabling a head-to-head versus mode in dual cockpit configuration. Despite these improvements, it becomes evident that the sprite scaling tech at the heart of these games had started to reach its limit; the "next big thing" would really be the move to true 3D, which Sega achieved in magnificent style in 1993/94 with Daytona USA.
As a footnote, I wonder whether the introduction of System 32 hardware explains why so few of the games based on the platform received home conversions. It wasn't until the introduction of the Sega Saturn that gamers got to enjoy arcade-quality versions of OutRun and Afterburner, but I wonder if the System 32 was beyond the 2D capabilities present in the Saturn?

It was awesome, this game (with the complete setup, chairs, wheels, big dual screens) was in all the arcades in the city in the late '92 and we used to made mini tournaments to monopolize the game (if you win you can keep playing, you lose you should leave, both run out of time then two new players take their places). I stopped playing at this in the 99 when i entered college. There's still an arcade in the city that has this game (with the complete gear) and rent it for a complete day for parties. It also rents several other arcades from the 90's and 2000's (no multigames arcades)

OutRunners did well in Japan and Europe. It was a overshadowed by SEGA's other "big" racer that year; Virtua Racing. VR in its deluxe sitdown version was immensely popular with arcade operators ... until Ridge Racer and Daytona USA came along in late 1993.

Flop or not; I *LOVED* the dual cabinets of this game. A lot different from just the standard, lonesome cabinet. And this compared to Cruisin' USA; I'll take 2D sprites, arcade, ridiculous fun over graphics that couldn't keep up with the game, stiff control wheel & shifter knob that kept getting stuck. Other than that; Daytona USA cabinet knocked it out of the park. Again; SEGA!!!

Out of all OutRun games, my favourite will always be arcade Outrunners. Jake Elwood got me 😄 But can someone tell me what does he say every time you pass a checkpoint?

I love playing this game with my siblings and cousins at the arcade. The arcades have 8 driving cabinets and it will just be enough for us 8. I would either choose the mini-car driven by the two fat dudes coz they would bounce around when they crash, or i would choose the big off road vehicle driven by the two muscley dudes.

The speed, sound and music are amazing, but the races are a bit too easy. I used to play through the whole game with each car when this game had been in the game halls. There could be a little more traffic to make the game more challenging.
