From a Canadian perspective, we've been rolled over for over 35 years by the USA on the pitch, *both* men's and women's teams, a million times over. Yes we appreciate your support in hockey and other sports, but true beef started with London 2012 (and some say Beijing 2008) , when the controversial referee enabled a USA women's win. This is why the booing started and we Canadians had enough.

As a Canadian, John Herdman is an absolute legend. He's the most important person in modern Canadian Soccer. He coached our women's team to two Olympic medals in 2012 and 2016 and absolutely transformed the women's program. He came to the men's team in 2018 and has been similarly transformational here. He is a great man manager. You can hear in interviews, the players worship the man.

What's scary is that Canada is a super young team and is the youngest team in the CONCACAF. Which means that they're going to be a powerhouse in North America for the next decade or two when they gain more experiences. This game just prove that Canada is still strong even without their top 3 players (Davies, Eustáquio, and Cavallini) against a healthy US team.

John knew that the American midfield had more quality, so we essentially conceded the midfifeld and gambled that our defense would do its job. To describe Tajon Buchanan, he is argueably Canada's version of Clint Dempsey, plays with a chip on his shoulder, is quick to talk crap, and never backs down from a tussle

From Canada, thoughts while watching the game: - 100% agree zero centre control. Literally zero use of the full field across. - poor use of subs. Also before Covid it’s was 3 subs. And coach’s and teams should be able to play with the 4 subs and save that 1 for injury unless it’s like the final 10 or 5 min. - Yah, our coach is literally insane. He built the Canada’s women’s football team to what it is now - The ref sucked for both sides. Definitely there was some thing on both sides that needed to be called and the ref had zero control - What was some of those “throw ins” from the US? They weren’t even proper form I think Canadians know what the team is up against in Qatar. But at this point the goal is to just get there in the first place, and sustain a team that’s going to be able to keep going to world cups, before focusing on getting to the round of 16 and past that. On a final note, from the commentary I’ve heard the game remind me a bit of Belgium vs. Brazil 2018 World Cup. Teams know that they need to prevent goals getting in and they also trust in their counterattack ability. Literally all Canada’s goal were counterattacks which is probably why they were fine sitting back a bit.

If ball possessio determined the winner of a game, the US thrashed Canada, but after that early goal Canada allowed the US to hold possession. Canada didn't need to win, and a tie would been a more than fair result especially with Davies, Eustaquio, and Hutchinson (all starters - 2 principal midfielders) not playing. This allowed Canada to hold formation and play on the counter attack. Canada is by far the best team in CONCAF, especially with a full healthy team. Canada has more World Class players than the US and the table proves it.

Canadians don't be a douche, take the win and STFU. Because the US and Mexico control the finances of Concacaf they never had to be the Concacafee to the extent Canada has. Now we are the Concacafer and we have a lot of payback due. Canada and to a lesser extent the US haven't practised the Concacaf dark arts, well we finally wised up and took a crash course.

Lololol! Don't need to have seen the result to know what it was, those expressions on your faces says it all! Only three seconds in and those sad eyes, vacant stares, and deep exhales! Ah sports, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times! I used to be so invested in my different fav team's results that so much of the joy i gained from sports was more than countered by the sadness, depression, anger, and despair after losses. As i've gotten older (now nearing 60, yikes!) the highs aren't quite as high as they used to be but i tell you, the lows are NO way near the lows, and that is huge! Sometimes i can watch my team lose now and still enjoy the game…not often, but sometimes!

We are decades behind everyone else still. I remember the 94 cup (I was 10 at the time); even then we couldn’t do anything with our strongest team (arguably?) Am I mistaken or did we have a solid team but didn’t qualify in 2018..

You guys keep repeating that the US team is more talented....I'm not convinced of that at all. Canada clearly has the better forwards and the better fullbacks. Borjan is the better goalie. In this game the US had the better midfield but Canada was missing Eustachio and Hutchinson and Davies helps a ton in the midfield. I just don't see this talent gap you are trying to convince everyone of in this video. It's not just the manager....the level of Canadian talent has surpassed that of the rest of CONCACAF. The US may be deeper but when putting together a starting XI Canada is superior.

I can't even watch coverage after games anymore because of this insanity. Everyone wanting to settle scores between leagues, and prove their little points right or someone else wrong. First, lets just say I at least partially agree with Greg on the idea of the result being more disappointing the the performance. If you the score wasn't on the tv, it felt like we were winning most of the match. That being said I do have some issues but I'm going to just go through some of my observations. Walker Zimmerman is our top CB and our most important leader. Especially on the back line. Miles Robinson looked like he hadn't been on the pitch for months. What is more concerning for Miles is that he looked very slow. The lines didn't seem to be in very good position most of the match either. Richards also didn't look at the top of his game either. That possibly could go back to not having the leadership of Zimmerman and someone he trusted to be there as well. He flat got beat on the goal and that was bad. Don't care what goal keeper was playing, that goal was going in. Everyone is crazy about MMA, and I think they are very good. But I will say it again. As go Dest and Jedi the team will follow. (or you can sub in our backups as well) Look at all of our best games, Dest and Jedi have great games. When the other teams shuts down the two or contains them or whomever is playing at LB/RB the offense looks terrible. I heard multiple people talking about how Canada was quicker but Dest and Robinson aren't exactly slow. They ran down their quicker opponents several times. Offensively if they get things started in the attack things are positive. Today Canada did a good job of containing them This is one of these issues that I don't understand why we can't fix. We are a team that should be seeing many crosses. The problem is not necessarily the crosses. It is the fact that our attackers are flat footed in the box. Take a look at our crosses. Today the near score by McKinnie he was moving to the ball. Go back to the Mexico game, Pulisic's score. He tracked Weah and was attacking space to score. There are examples of this over and over again. But usually we cross and everyone is standing flatfooted. Another tactical aspect is what I think our biggest issue and it is spacing. Can someone tell me why everytime our attackers get the ball, especially Pulisic, we basically run to the ball like we need to assist the dribbler. We need to maintain our spacing and let someone like Pulisic beat the first guy then make an aggressive pass. Right now Pulisic (or anyone else) beats the first guy but the other attackers move towards them bringing the defense when they should be making a run or keeping their distance. Starting Zardes was a mistake but I wouldn't say he played badly. Benching Dest and Aaronson were also questionable.

As an England fan I don't understand the usage of acronym of USMNT. I know what it means in full but why not just be USA. In England we brand our teams with two words. For example England Cricket team or England football team. Using the words US denotes its the United States, using Men's National is over wordage. You can see their men and you can see their from a nation of the United States. Never understood the US obsession of extra words to describe what you can see. Other than that I enjoyed the YT video you have here. As a Chelsea fan I do expect Pulisic to stay another season or leave by the summer to Everton FC.
