    I was in the Philippines in the late 80s and early 90s and from watching the video, nothing as really changed except the quality of the guns. Handguns were basically limited to four inch .38 revolvers and .45 1911s. didn't hardly see any 9mms, long guns ran the assortment of M1 Garands, M1/2 carbines, long and short M16s, M14s and assorted shotguns. Another thing that has never changed is the beauty of that country and the warmth and hospitality of it's people.

    With how unreliable I find the police force in the Philippines is, how corrupt public institutions are, how rampant terrorism is in various areas, and how criminality, gang violence, and vigilanteism is idolized especially in urban centers, the only ways to ensure your safety is to have your own means of self defense or pay others to do it for you.

    Probably it has a lot to do with were you from and not where you at. F.e. Fact is that the Ati/Aeta-people were the first native tribe in the Philippines, but how many Pinoy know that? How are they treated even in "peaceful" Cebu? So, probably bc of a lack of education etc. they consider their area as the "real" Philippines, and any other part maybe as "scum"! Guess the description of one country, one nation does not fit for this country...

    @@rangeraxl2901 of all that came before, Du30 was by far the best since he pretty much just destroyed the gap (at least the perceived one) between Mindanao and Visayas with that of Luzon since for years, Luzon has been propped up as this bastion of pinoy elitism and that Mindanao and Visayas should bow down without question which is why Luzon is more or less hated in the South. Yes, his works seem flawed, it was stupid enough to work, could we even call it flawed at all? The Mautes have been more or less destroyed since the Marawi siege (which we won by sheer dumb luck because the Mautes were found out too early while still preparing) and the other groups basically being crushed so hard they became more like small gangs and with the biggest threat i.e. the MNLF now being our allies. That is a *HUGE* achievement that no other president has ever done.

    @@dickmelsonlupot7697 I agree, Duterte broke the Luzon-central streak of previous admins and his response to the Marawi Siege was great and work with Bangsamoro is something that no other presidents have and could have done but that doesn't mean that we should forget his flaws. The main gripe I had with Duterte was the war on drugs campaign which while I agree that drug use and proliferation was a threat, was executed pretty badly with innocent civillians getting caught up in the crossfire and the prevalence of non-sanctioned raids that were undertaken by either policemen or other third parties. Aside from that and his China foreign policy (two things that I have a huge concern with), I have nothing but praises for him.

    The Philippines is owned by men who have guns - politicians, rich people, police, military and criminals. It’s very expensive and there’s too much bureaucracy for regular folks to legally own firearms and carry outside the home. Local towns are ruled by families and officials who have the most guns. If you are a foreigner or a regular folk in the Philippines, you can only bow your head and say “sorry” when somebody armed raise their voice against you. They tend to brandish and pull out their firearms in anger or to prove a point. If you are foreigner living in the Philippines, don’t live somewhere remote like in the beach, quiet farm or island somewhere. It will only be a matter of time that you will get a home invasion, robbery. Foreigners can’t own firearms in the Philippines.

    Can confirm. In fact, the shortest way you could get into that is to associate yourself with "lodges" such as Philippine Eagles or Masons. They operate under the pretense of brotherhood, community service and etc., but deep in their circle, it's more like a mafia syndicate.

  • @SpyderWebbX

    @SpyderWebbX

    @@shan9usfc Yup! Filipino men are into fraternities from youth to adulthood. In school, they would enter into fraternities - which are more of a gang than form of fraternities like in western and European countries. In college and high school, the fraternities are actually just school or street gangs with Greek letter names. During adulthood, they tend to go in to more formal groups. In the 70s-90s, Kiwanis, Lions Club and Knights of Columbus in urban areas, then you have the religious cult militias in the south. Now, it’s the “lodges”. Unlike other Asian men like the Japanese or Koreans, adult and middle-age Filipino feel the need to belong to a group (or exclusive group) to have a sense of entitlement and authority. They have been low or middle class their whole lives, and being in an exclusive group bumping fists with alpha males of higher society, they feel they stepped up. This need for entitlement explains adult Filipino men wearing military or police t-shirt, even though they are not affiliated. They have police or government seal stickers on their cars or plate numbers to project false authority. Open their wallets and they have a collection of business cards from officials they have met - albeit in their fraternities. The more exclusive the club is, the more entitled they feel. And if there’s guns involved and they have phoney military-style ranking in the club, they feel like real men, again and truly hit the jackpot.

And when they are killed by their actions they will blame the government. As the saying goes, "IF YOU PLAY WITH FIRE YOU GET BURNED". If you live in the western world for example you have no excuse for Crime as poverty can be fixed many other ways. And free capitalism is what brings them out of being a third world country into an industrialized power. It has raised almost a billion people out of poverty across the globe in the last several decades. What in the hell are you talking about? You're trying to sound smart without actually being so. Before COVID, being outside late at night either for work or just going about is relatively safe, now muggings and other violent crimes just happen almost every night. I surely don't agree with most of Duterte's way of doing things, but somehow while he was in power, the crime rate really was suppressed.

    Completely agreed! Before Duterte, there were streets you should never even be walking in at certain hours at night because it was just so dangerous. When he was the president, I see police cars everywhere and the streets felt safe again. For some reason now, more and more messed up crimes are coming up, and frequently. The sophisticated robbing and kidnapping and new criminal mode of operation are polluting the cities. More intense than before. Also well planned. Masterminds are adapting while police are stuck incompetent. It's scary.

    The 40 cal WASNT designed to stop targets in their tracks.. It is simply a shortened 10mm. The FBI was switching from .38/357 revolvers to Semi autos (for obvious reasons) and was wanting something that was relatively high capacity but also hard hitting and looked into the 10mm. However testers reported that the recoil was too stout for smaller shooters. So they shortened it and adopted the .40 S&W (smith and wesson, or SHORT AND WEAK lol). Served for a while until they chose the 9mm due to modern ammunition advances and loadings preforming on par if not better than the .40 and also gave an increase in capacity over .40. The .45 acp was designed to stop people in their tracks.

    @@vwlover4677 No, just some missing general knowledge about firearms, calibers, what those calibers mean and what their intended use-cases are/were upon their invention. They make some inaccurate statements, which normally I'd say is par for the course, IF the whole documentary wasn't centered around firearms. They could have asked one actual expert to come in and consult for 10 minutes to fix that. A .40 is hardly more effective than the much-more-compact 9mm. A 40 may hold 10 rounds where a 9mm with identical practical stopping-power will hold 17 or 19 rounds. As someone pointed out, a .40SW(smith and Wesson) is essentially just a shortened 10mm. Now, 10mm rounds justify their size (radius) by being an absolutely devastating round that you'd want when facing down a bear in Alaska. But a .40 has the radius disadvantages of a 10mm, and therefore the reduced capacity, but none of the bite on the business end. (It's a shortened 10mm. Most 10mm pistols will shoot .40 as well, in fact) .40 basically has all of the drawbacks of a 10mm or a .45 (ammo capacity) and yet is actually only about as practically effective as the much smaller, cheaper and more readily available 9mm. Maybe 40 is far more common in the Philippines, and therefore the smart option, who knows. But I am pretty sure even over there, 9mm is more prolific. Edit: that being said, they did get some stuff right. But that's only discernable by me because I know about it beforehand. To the normal person watching this, they're getting a lot of incorrect tidbits of info scattered about among the correct stuff.

    How do you know there's none? Just because you don't understand Tagalog and don't watch their news doesn't mean it doesn't exist. American news are popular for the whole world because America is the most powerful country, no Americans ever need to care about the news outside their country and no one will ever bother to translate Tagalog to English for American consumption.

    @@lee-jj1js no. America still has more civil liberties than any other country. The problem in the United States is that about 94% of mass attacks occur in "gun free" zones. And that cities with the strictest gun restrictions, have the highest crime rates. Cities that have also enacted "catch and release" policies have actually inspired more crime. The problem with this video is the title. They insinuate that the problem is simply the volume of guns. But upon initial review, it looks like wide spread gang violence. A culture of gangs, and young people bread to committing violent acts, will be dangerous no matter what they have in their hands.

    First and foremost this is vice, so don't expect any based take coming from their documentaries (just read the video description). And to answer your question, Atom Auraullo leans liberal. And as a Filipino I'm telling you, you're just seeing the tip of the iceberg on how many of these journalists, intellectuals and activists like him, talk and act like they're from blue state cities. Strangely I see some of the same dynamic from red state conservatives among Filipinos living in remote rural areas far away from Manila. The police force is rife with corruption and the Philippine Army have their hands full on dealing with both Communist and Islamist insurgents

I wish people would realize the severity and the seriousness of combat with firearms this video made me cringe. I am from Philippines. I rather sacrifice 1 life than be scared for my family or going home at night, thinking there might an addict waiting on it's next victim in the dark alley. Or going on hiking in a mountainous area thinking there might be terrorist that will open fire on us. Terrorist have a lot of legal front organization in the Philippines. They even hide guns in churches (Christians). These terrorist killed hundreds of civilian, the youngest is 7 years old. Just like the gunman said, you will not be killed if you didn't do anything bad.
