COWBOY WOLF is a 1959 American Western film directed by Richard Fleischer, featuring a cast including Don Murray, Richard Egan, Lee Remick, Stuart Whitman, and Patricia Owens. The screenplay, penned by Alfred Hayes, is based on the novel of the same name by A.B. Guthrie Jr. Filming primarily occurred in Sierra de Órganos National Park in Sombrerete, Mexico.
The story revolves around Albert Gallatin "Lat" Evans (Don Murray), a young cowboy determined to improve his circumstances. He secures a job on a cattle drive after taming a wild horse, nurturing dreams of ranch ownership and wealth, in contrast to his father's struggles.
During a stop in a Wyoming town, Lat engages in a horse race initiated by the dubious rancher Jehu (Richard Egan). Despite initially leading, Lat falls due to foul play but is declared the winner by Marshal Conrad (Albert Dekker). Subsequently, Lat and his friend Tom (Stuart Whitman) celebrate at the saloon with women, including Callie (Lee Remick), whose empathy for Lat's past resonates with him.
Driven by ambition, Lat seeks financial backing from Conrad to purchase land and cattle, eventually thriving while others falter. However, his growing success strains his relationships, particularly with Callie, whom he forsakes for Conrad's niece, Joyce (Patricia Owens).

Now that black horse he tries in the beginning is a nice horse. I dont care much for riding but i love that horse
This movie was excellent. Every scene had a purpose. The credits were a who's who of famous actors. I see why Don Murray was always working he had that it factor. I always got Dean Jones mixed up with Don Murray both were great actors. RIP.

This was a very surprising western. Plenty of action with a believable love interest, backed by old fashioned values distorting what one should do. This western is well worth watching over & over. Thanks for sharing.

I was raised in Montana. Even back in days of 1800’s, anyone that could afford a gun had one. Most had other kind of cheaper weapons but in the 60’s. Everyone I knew carried.
