It would likely...how to put this...create a catalyst of getting the existential issues to the surface, Of course, it would be potentially terrifying to try to be his tripsitter, if that's what you mean. It almost sounds like he's experiencing a sort of vertigo or fear of heights kind of visceral, physiological reaction to "getting" the size of space.

@@izzikat9252 yeah thats what i was meaning! Ive tripsitted a lot of my friends, and have some weird stories lol… had to keep a guy from jumping out of the bathroom and licking my exs feet while talking in tongues about “the gatessssss” and the “snakesssss” off only 1.5g of shrooms for his first time. Having to restrain someone when they’re freaking out and tripping while trying to calm them down and redirect their thinking can be so stressful. Honestly I still would have tripsit the dude in the call because I’m not afraid of outerspace, for some reason the universe brings me peace lol when I think about it even though I like reading and watching eductional content about our universe. So maybe who knows if in some parallel universe I could have been in a gecko suit tripsitting him instead of him calling Lyle in a gecko suit haha.

I hope you know you’re stronger than the anxiety it’s not who you are and you realize that instead of our smallness being a scary thing it’s a beautiful thing because of how rare it is and yeah we’re not fully in control but we DO have some control and that’s the beauty of it!!

He got hung up on the term cause he's very drunk. But, in his defense, the term "amateur astronomer" doesn't make any sense. An amateur musician is someone who makes music without getting paid. A so-called "amateur astronomer" does nothing that a professional astronomer does (doing science), except maybe for looking through a telescope and looking up what they're seeing. They should call themselves "space watcher", or something, but I guess that sounds less fancy.

It can be fun but man, it can be equally terrifying - miscalculating your fuel, getting stranded out between Venus and Jupiter, nothing but void behind like 5 cm of aluminium alloy wall, with a total of 20 cubic meters of space and no way for anyone to come get you, waiting to see if thirst, cold, suffocation or radaition sickness gets you first. If you walk out of the airlock you'll have a bit below 10 seconds until the void sucks the oxygen right out of your blood through the lungs.

Being unnerved by how insignificant you are in the greater scope of the universe is normal and relatable, but only until it becomes debilitating. When it DOES become debilitating, it's useful to remember that you've been completely insignificant since BIRTH, you have ALWAYS been that way, and that the inconceivably enormous size of the universe has never impacted your day to day life. Then you will realize that the way you feel is just that... a feeling. Astrophobia is the irrational fear of stars and space, it's classified as a phobia, and its treatment is the same as every other phobia. Take breaks to relax when you need to, take deep breaths when you're afraid, remember that anxiety won't hurt you, and then, when you're ready, face your fears.

1 atom is significantly smaller to a sandwich than a sandwich is to the earth. 1 single cell in your body contains a around 100 trillion atoms and the average human contains around 37.2 trillion cells. I'm too lazy to do the entirety of this math, but you could probably fit about 350 billion foot longs into the earth, but there are trillions upon trillions of atoms in a foot long

  • @maxraccoon3529

@@AJBuddha my math is probably off. But the fact would still remain, as atoms are so small we can't even see them. Depends on how we look at the question if it's about covering the entire earth or filling up the entire center of the earth, but I am certain the size would still be significantly smaller. I don't really have the patience to calculate it right now. Stacking it up to the atmosphere might be debatable tho

Existential things like our insignificance in the grand scheme of the universe actually bring me peace. I used to be scared of the weather as well but at some point I decided to surrender with grace. It's best to focus on things that are within your control, there really is no point in worrying about things beyond our reach or influence bc whatever comes of them will still come regardless of what we do. The important part is how you react in the aftermath, assuming there is an after. The Amateur Astronomer seems to be experiencing obsessive thoughts and should consider treatment for anxiety if he hasn't already, I waited ti respond until the videos end so dont I recall.

To the first guy: If you haven't, research Existential OCD. Me and countless others have been where you are, absolutely terrified and having my thoughts and essentially my life taken over by the obsessive thinking of space, universe, what's beneath and a tiny little human's part in all of this. I used to have full-blown panic attacks when I saw the moon or the sun. But it's 100% something you can get over. For me what worked was OCD-specific methods (ERP first and foremost) and researching philosophy to come to terms with existing as a part of this weird fucking universe. It's a hell of a scary and rough journey but I believe you'll make it and find calm.

So, a footlong Subway sandwich is indeed much closer in size to the entire Earth than it is to a single atom. Hope this helps!
