I love that Jonathan & Carlacia were just like “Rain on it, this feels right for the characters” & it worked 🙌🏻

Chase spoke well about the time jump. There are so many unanswered questions about how the dynamics have changed among the characters throughout those 18 months. I definitely hope the writers explore what happened during that time at the beginning of the fourth season. I need to know how Rafe responds to the news of Ward’s death-especially considering the ominous warning he gave to John B before he boarded the plane for South America. Additionally, that last scene at the ceremony was tough for me to swallow. It just didn’t feel the same, and it’s painfully clear that the Pogues’s lives and friendship never will be quite the same as they were before the adventure began. But such is life.

This show is getting more and more shallow by each season... It now cratches the surface only, it brings new plots and new characters (villains) every time, but doesn't answer any of our questions and doesn't give much into character development anymore.

@@cnambd Its unfortunately something that happens with a lot of shows. They trade character development for big, flashy plots. Instead of there being a balanced relationship with plots, character development and character motivation, the plot becomes the primary focus. The balance of advancing the plot but staying true to the characters and nature of the show can be left behind. This especially happens when the budgets get bigger. I also think the writer’s room also may have misattributed the success of the show to the treasure hunting plot rather than the characters and their relationships with each other.

@@sariee12 Couldn't agree more... But this show was only at his third season a few weeks ago, goddamn it! I'm from Quebec, I don't know shit about OBX, but just by reading about it on Wikipedia, I saw like at least 5 interesting plot opportunities that are organic to the place and would permit to give into the character's past and futur arcs. Seriously, I'm so mad at the third season; there's no going back from that, now... El Dorado was sooo far fetch, they'll keep going bigger and, I swear, I'm ready to see The Rock appears in season 4 to give the crew a freaking mission... It has the Fast And Furious symdrom! So, I'm left with like 1 season and a half that are good; so much wasted occasions of good story lines, seriously. And now they're all Kooks in season 4? The beauty of this show is that it feels like a cheap thrill, a whole vibe at the complete opposite of the vernished one from the vast majority of the other shows... I don't want a Kook JJ, all his appeal is in the fact that he's a dirty lil pogue, lol! That's just how we love him, because he owns it like a boss! The whole show will feel hypocrite if they're all Kooks trying to keep it real... I have read Lights out (a book from the obx universe) and minus the cliché Pogue Romeo and Kook Juliet (like there's always only one relationship patern in this show), the intrigue is better than season 2, I think, and way better than season 3 for sure, because it's PLAUSIBLE and we actually get a better insight into the characters... My only hope for season 4 is seing a bit more about the Maybank, father and son. I'd like JJ to go see his dad in Yucatan, take him home to clear his name, try again as it's now the 'other life' they talked about before he left... Oh, and don't get me started with the whoke over bleaching JJ's hair or giving him a mullet! And where's that Coors Light tanktop? Cause I want it back on him right now! JK. But season 1 was so perfect, and it turned to shit pretty quickly. I'd love for the other to rewatch and come back to the start for season 4.

yes!! i am desperate to see how Rafe reacted about wards death too!! i also think that they need to focus more on character development, because i want to see them figuring things out after this, for example seeing them struggling with PTSD would be interesting, like Sarah at the start of s3 on the island. i want to see them working through it together, and i hope they do little flashbacks to certain points during those 18 months or even before the show. i wish they focussed more on the emotions in s3, but i did love the season overall, especially the full circle moment when Ward dies for real and John B doesn’t just stand and watch, he actually tries because it shows me that they are learning from their mistakes, just slowly. i didn’t like the whole el dorado part because it felt very much magical and fictional, not at all relatable to the majority of the viewers, which is what initially drew people into the show during lockdown. but i can admit it what came from it fitted in well with the storyline, even if it felt more like a fantasy 😭 now when i say i’m living the obx life, it could mean i’m crawling through caves hunting gold, on the run from police or partying at the beach with friends and drinks every day i can in summer. (it’s the third one shockingly) this is also embarrassing to say but the fan fiction that’s out there which focusses more on the emotional side of things can sometimes be really well written, and i have read quite a few ‘missing scenes’ to the point that i don’t know what’s in the show and what isn’t, because if i like it i can just pretend that’s what actually happens 🤷‍♀️ im absolutely buzzing for season 4 and hopefully now that it has wrapped it won’t be long 😩 i NEED answers 😭

The Cameron family carried the last two episodes. In the end Ward sacrificed himself for his daughter and his death was more emotional than Big John. I want to see the relationship between Rafe and Sarah next season now with their father gone.

Pogues should have more scenes together in the new season. They were split up too often and it made season 3 less enjoyable. Loved the Rafe/Kiara and Pope/Cleo duos though.

I love how deep everyone thinks about their characters, like Chase & Rudy stand out especially although it's everyone.

Ward was a great character who lived up (and died) to our expectations. A well played multidimensional vilain, with a great redemption arc.

i love watching their goofy interviews, but these more serious ones were so special. i love how deeply they understand their characters and you can really see the love they have for the show and how much they put themselves into it! very proud and can't wait for season 4. i love obx and i love this cast sm

I couldn’t find Luke either but an extra in those scenes said that the actor who plays JJ’s dad was there and they filmed a few scenes together that didn’t make it into the season finale. Which makes us wonder if it was scrapped or if they will use it in season 4

I seriously want Luke Maybank to still be hiding in Yucatan, so JJ have to take his charter boat there and go find his old man to tell him he found gold, and try to reconnect over a tequila bottle... I want more of their dysfonctionnal relationship! I want Luke to bring JJ into trouble, criminal behaviour and all... I know, it's terrible, but it would make such a good season! And, also, both of them talk about Yucatan since season 1; I wanna go!

What wait, Lukes was there? Oh no. It's nice to see that even the actors aren't sure what to think about the ending of S3. and at least Pope and Cleo can be happy. When Cleo became a member of the cast, I knew she would be Pope's girlfriend. And I thought it's going to feel kind of forced. But they had a sweet build up to their relationship. Wish JJ and Kiara and Sarah and John B could be that happy. And I love how the cast talks about Ward's Actor, it's so nice to hear that he was a mentor to the kids

Oh my god I'm so proud of the actors they really sensed the right direction for their characters, i genuinely loved pope and cleo's moment and the kiss was so needed and it was so pure it just felt the evolution of their relationship upto that level happened very nicely in a good wayy i think it was one of my favourite moments from this season just purely happy for these two characters 💛

I'm so happy they did this recap to get actual nuanced perspective on the show with actors passionate about their craft and characters. I feel like most of the interviews they've done are super click-baity, it's not on the actors but the interviewers and bad journalism.

Season 3 definitely brought its A game, but now I'm so stoked for season 4.

Rudy saying that treasure hunting is distraction from growing up. Very real. But I think Rudy wants this show to be more serious than it is 😅

I think so (or hope so) too. The more I actually listen to interviews with Rudy Pankow, the more I feel like the guy did some serious researches (or thinking at least) about JJ. I think he has said something about the fact that he tought Luke was also a victime of child abuse: this is called intergenerational trauma and, yes, this is deep and so true to the Maybank characters. Abuse leaves chemical marks in the ADN, so you just can't escape your faith, in some ways ... Rudy seems to be really smart, invested in his work and he knows what he's doing, elaborating background stories with Chase and Gary, among others... But this show is going down and its taking JJ Maybank with it, sadly! That must be horrible for an actor to not have control on the beloved character you so dearly brought to life. JJ is like his first big thing, and he can't develop it as much as he knows he could and probably wish too? That's just my opinion, tho! Je dis ça, je dis rien! 🙃

The season wasn't good compared to season one, ad even two, but the finale was simply very badly writen!

Good thing they found El Dorado, 'cause JJ was drowning in debts! 😅 The restitution, the Maybank house mortage, Barracuda Mike...

That's why I loved his 'make your own rules' t-shirt in season 3; great choice of clothing for JJ! Proof? He would have stay in Poguelandia. And that's why I think he would surely have end up taking his father's path into a kind of gangster lifestyle if wasn't a Kook now... Not only because he clearly though it was cool, kind of proud of that, but he wouldn't have any other choice, as he's actually a drop out and all.

Ward is a good man / father at heart ,but got infected with the greed of gold ,and money overall he's a great character with a very satisfying redemption.

Chase is the only one I was listening too he’s the only one who was talking about the show like he was a fan. He was going into every scene with a lot of detail and I like how he noticed that when we see all of them after the 18 months they all seem different and weird and we’ll have to wait to see if they are all still the same and close.

I think Chase spoiled something he shouldn't have. Maybe it was a storyline, but the producers took it out because they're still thinking about where the character JJ is going.

I'm gonna be honest... I wish they didn't create a new villain. I wanted it to be Ward and Rafe, with a twist somewhere idk what. I wholeheartedly believed we would have a continuation from the last season. I know they want to create more depth but it coulda been more similar to the vibes of previous seasons while still achieving what they wanted. I wish the ensemble stayed together, I thought Kie and Rafe would meet up with the pogues and there would be some high stakes situation where they all work together maybe, and Rafe ends up helping THEM. Idk. I am so happy Big John is gone- nothing against the actor he's a great actor I feel bad to say that but it just really changed the vibe of the show and the writers need to realize their audience and what they love about the show as a whole. I know season 4 will be a new chapter but I hope they keep that same vibe. They hit the nail with the intensity and craziness on this show, but it feels like a miss at times and they need to take it a step further. For example, why didn't Kiara and Rafe tell anyone about what happened? Why did Singh never follow up with Rafe and Kiara? Why couldn't it be EVERYONE against singh, in some crazy scene?? Why have Sarah go back to topper AGAIN? Why didn't JJ and Kiara flirt more before having that moment on the boat? The buildup was not enough. The chemistry felt off slightly, not sure why. Oh Ward, he was perfect. I didn't realize just how much until this season. I can go on. I adore this show and cast, I am excited for season 4, but just worried a little now. I understand shock value can work, but I hope they can rewatch seasons 1 and 2 and see how the vibe of the show changed too much

I deeply agree with everything you just said... Introducing new villains, new places from around the world (except Yucatan; I want JJ in Yucatan with Luke in season four, he talks about it since season one) and new treasure don't bring anything to the main story line! It's the complete opposite! They nailed season one so freaking perfectly: extremely rich context, strong based character, a lot of mystery, so many possibilities... And for what? Each season we start with something new, completly out of nowhere and unecessary, and the characters we care about and the places we love stagnate! Not much development, like they don't want yo dig deeper into their past or anything (except Pope I guess) or root them deeper into their environment... Rafe was underused this season, seriously. The end of season two was so promising for him.

I feel like the vibes are so off and not the same as s1 and 2 i honestly would rather wait longer for s4 than the other seasons if that means they came make s4 better than s3 and they have a lot to make up for especially how rushed s3 was s4 better be better than s3 i would gladly wait 2 years instead of 1 like how the other season waits were.There is so much to make up for and so much time that has passed with that 18 month time jump ,i really want s4 to be more of the pouges and relationships and the directors and writers take their time to make it great and less adventure although that’s what i love about obx we really need to focus on the pouges and how each of the are feeling after all that has happened i mean that is so much trama.Also what about JJ how does he feel about being a kook now and what about jiara we missed the honeymoon stage we need a whole recap of those 18 months i also think that we need more than 10 episodes next season to explain all that’s happened AND bring in new stuff like the blackbeard.

Kook are eccentric and feel superior to people who don’t live in figure 8. Kiara of course never was like that and she’s much more comfortable with pogues than kooks so don’t she belongs there just because she was born there. And Sarah defended pogues since the first episode when everyone around her hated them (her brother and topper)

I think the entire reason the time jump exists is to catch the characters up with present time. The pogues were born in 2003, just like me, but throughout season 4 are still just 16 & 17 years old because of how compact the timeline is. I don't know why they'd care about mirrored time though.

John B's dad came back and still alive then found city of gold but Big John didn't enjoy the victory with pogues especially with John B and passed away in this moment. Big John couldn't spend much time with John B

Rudy Pankow seems to be the only one of the cast that actually cares about the quality of the story this show is telling.

Was Luke Maybank at the final episode ceremony? Because I didn't see him. Personally, in season 4, I want JJ to take his charter boat to YUCATAN!!! ❤ JJ said "Maybe in another life" to his father when he asked if they could be okay one day, and I feel like now is the begening of this other life. So, I want him to find his father (Luke would probably be in trouble, as always, with square groupers or coppers after his ass, and JJ would have to help him). I want JJ to tell him what happened, the gold and all, and I want them to talk everything through over a tequila bottle. I want flashbacks showing us how they end up twisted like this, Maybank history, the whole 'long line of fishing, drinking, vendetta-holding salt-lifers who made their living off the water' thing and who/where is JJ's mom, what happened, is she dead and all... And then I want Luke to try to do the right thing for once. I want them to try to reconnect... Even if it'd probably be a messy disaster, because, well, Luke will be Luke... But Gary Weeks is awesome! Also, I want to know JJ's full name. Like, c'm'on...

I know why you want this, JJ deserves better. I kind of wish that too, but when I think about it... you know what, I wish that for JJ, but not for Luke. His father did such terrible things to him, Luke does not deserve that. For years he had the opportunity to do better. JJ is amazing and he can heal himself and with the help of his friends he maybe manages to break the cycle of the Maybank family himself. I don't think breaking the family history when Luke is in bad shape is a good idea. And he doesn't deserve the money/gold. it would make me feel like he was just doing it for the money and not for JJ. but it could be a good storyline

The whole El Dorado gold city thing wasn't worth it. It could literaly have been any other treasure hunt, true to scale, or any other more believable plot, and I would have prefer that... Or, if El Dorado really was that important because of where the RM gold and the cross came from, why rush it in 10 episodes? Why does this show doesn't breath anymore while it's its chill vibes that made it so popular? Season one's rythm was quick, but it was less packed. Even Stokes' comments (on the fact that two 17 yo found the gold city) point to the fact that this is especially stupid... I also had more intense feelings on the Maybank house's screen porch when JJ take 35k home to his father for restitution than with the gold discovery... Ain't treasure hunting supposed to be a secondary frame for this show and the Pogues/OBX's lifestyle the main subjects? Now we only have a treasure hunt blockbuster full of clichés and déjà vus!... Hope Black beard won't be going the same way.

I agree with Ward, Big John should stay death. No chemistry with John B, poor dialogues, bad acting, they should invested that time in JJ and Kiara, and see more layers in their growing relationhip. And I COMPLETE agree this season was too convenient and unreal in so many ways that I was like what? This wouldn’t ever happened in real life... It's scifi but doesn't mean that everything is justified. 🙄

WHAT DOES CHASE MEAN BY LUKE WAS THERE???? I COULDN'T SEE HIM!!!

I love the way they talk about it, with so much detail. Also that the cast members actually became really good friends and I am really excited to see what's going to happen in season 4. Particularly how the relationship between the Pogues goes on and how they manage it between the couples Pope/ Cleo, John B/Sarah and Kie/JJ, because I think it won't be easy with the strong connection between those couples, so I hope we're gonna see the Pogues more together, all of them. I'm actually happy how it turned out, because there had to be a success and even tho it is kind of weird to see them like that in the finale, I think it's a good one, because it's kind of matching with the first 2 seasons and makes it a triology what Madelyn already mentioned. I really love the cast and I'm so excited for the next season! ❤

I would love it if Rafe had a dog...idk but it'd be so cute if the dog kind of helps him 😂😭❤

Best of Outer Banks season 3 1. Kiara 2. Rafe 3. Pope 4. Sarah 5. Cleo John B and Big John was the most boring storyline of the season. Hope season 4 is better and focus on the Pogues vs Kooks again

I agree with Ward, Big John should stay death. No chemistry with John B, poor dialogues, bad acting, they should invested that time in JJ and Kiara, and see more layers in their growing relationhip. And I COMPLETE agree this season was too convenient and unreal in so many ways that I was like what? This wouldn’t ever happened in real life... It's scifi but doesn't mean that everything is justified. 🙄

since the Pogues found the gold does that mean in season 4 they well still be Pogues or will they be kooks because they found the gold so they will be rich so will they turn into kooks or stay as Pogues???

No hate but that’s literally just her name 😭 My sister’s name is Madison but everyone calls her Maddie, even people she isn’t close to…Obviously it could be different for Madelyn Cline but I don’t see Chase calling her “Maddie” as an indicator of anything 🤷‍♀️
