I use a beckett burner gun, with a waste oil nozzle, with the fan still pushing air in, with air from compressor pushing 13psi, with no retention head and burns great, no issues for many years now, but what i figure out of playing with over the years, the key is to make sure your air being injected in has no moisture, the oil is preheated to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, and oil is free of any moisture, if you have those squared away, it dont matter what air leaks around the gun, and it will fire right up with no issues.

Yeah i refuse to preheat the oil. Ive been down that road with drip stoves. Youre right about moisture, i am gonna need to put dryers in my air supply.. had some icing. I dont really see forced draft air benefitting this one.. it seems to want less combustion air to me. I just keep tweaking.

What is the filter for? Don’t those contaminants also get burned mostly.?

Its just a rock catcher to keep the nozzle ports from clogging up. I only burn dirty fuel.

The nozzle hole for air is 1mm, buy the oil ports are smaller, so have to make sure you don't have any trash bigger than that, It is best to filter it with a basic oil filter, if you want it to burn consistently, and not clog up, otherwise flame go out, and dont have something to shut off right away if flame goes out, it will keep pumping oil out around the clog and have a huge mess, I had this happen once.

@@staym925 yeah flameouts keep spraying and flood the thing.. thats why im spraying into a loose elbow right now from small fuel samples. The elbow catches the whole puddle instead of it flooding my firebox.
