Outboard Voltage Regulator (Is this causing my problems?)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Outboard Voltage Regulator - PWF's Brandon is having boat motor issues with his 1996 Mercury EFI 175 outboard. Have you heard an outboard motor do this? Please listen to this motor and let me know if it is a bad voltage regulator, trigger, etc.
In this video, I give symptoms of a bad voltage regulator/rectifier and replace one of the two on my skeeter bass boat. Thanks for your help!!!

***UPDATE!!!** Hey Guys! Narrowed it down to my ECU. Sent it off to Brucato Power in NC to run diagnostics on it. They came back and told me the "injector driver #3" had failed...So, new ECU on the way. Hope this helps.

My boat was doing this and I was thinking it could've been a problem with my carb😂
Thanks for posting. I had that problem today with a motorcycle. My rectifier shorted out hard and started melting its case (epoxy sealed).
I believed the problem you’re having is the timing control box on the top left corner of the motor. Usually what happens is that when the rectifiers go bad or can cause a voltage surge to get delivered to the timing control box which fries it.

On the Mercury engine charging and ignition systems: - Do not use AGM or Maintenance Free batteries. -Use a heavy coating of a good heat sink compound on the back side of the regulator before bolting it in place.

I'm having some problems with my 2013 mercury 60 efi I thought it was fuel but once I get on plane out the landing. It bogs down. I have a new power panel and the voltage is all over the place. I check the resistance on my stator. Thats was good. It just starts running like it missing but might be electrical.
@PrestigeWorldwideFishing

Not sure, you said you checked the stator but that is what it sounds like to me. Maybe something with the high side of the coil. Low side is working but when it gets to certain rpm and transfers to high side it causes you to lose power. Just a guess but maybe stare at that rpm when you are on the boat next and see if the bog happens at the same rpm

Hey the as you know by now the voltage regulator won’t effect how the motor preforms much it’s job is to turn the ac current from the stator to DC current to charge the battery and it also has a grey wire coming out the top for your tachometer . So I would check that you have spark on all 6 cylinders before you do anything else and make sure your spark plugs aren’t fouled out , if there are all good I would check fuel system
Did you get the problem fixed?We have a 150 doing the same thing but worse .

@@PrestigeWorldwideFishing ok most of the time electronic problems will get worse as the engine builds heat.
