We had a 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke go into salt water at wide open throttle and it actually ran better than ever after we fished it out and changed the oil. There was a dead spot in the throttle before but dropping it in the sea at full throttle apparently cleared out the carbs. Great video, thanks.

Good old carbed 2-stroke outboards, can't kill em!
Great video and nice engine. A note to anyone reading this though. Never EVER clean any painted surface with a Brillo or scouring pad. It has the same outcome as sandpaper. It will of course abrade the dirt or overspray away but will leave your paint very dulll and scratched.

Love this channel!! I love seeing your thought process on getting these to run! Really appreciate you and your time!
Love the outboard videos as much as the resto vids. Great video dude, love Yamaha outboards. Also the drone flyover videos with the music are brilliant- look forward to those
5:46 I could smell that lol
You need an ultrasonic cleaner for your carb parts. Must have bench tool for these compact engines that operate in corrosive environment. 😊 After breaking the pistons free with Marvel Mystery, put 1-2 tablespoons of foam air filter oil into each piston. That oil is high viscosity and will "stick" to your rings and cylinder walls until the rings free up. That will fix your compression problem.

I was told along time ago to put a bit of seafoam in every tank (for these small engines). Its basically kept my fuel problems to a minimum. I run high octane non ethanol with performance oil for 2 strokes, and non ethanol for 4 strokes with frequent oil changes and things work great. Also an Italian tune up (running engine full throttle and running it regularly) will do wonders, they like to work
Always love your videos. You make it look so easy. The explanation is always easy to understand and I love the music and the video at the end… Keep them coming.
Awesome video! I bought my first boat and motor last year and they're coming along nicely. This video gives me alot of hope that motor will turn out this nice. I got a 1986 8hp yamaha 2 stroke that needs carb work and the lower unit needs to be serviced
It’s these kinda videos that got me into your channel at the beginning, love the mix of what you do always good content.
That is one hell of a score! I’ve been searching for a small boat since someone gave me a 1965 3hp Johnson. I just lucked upon a 14’ lone star with a 15hp Evinrude on a trailer for cheap. I’m happy to have it but I already knew I was gonna want at least a 25hp. Well. I’ll be great full for what I have and just keep looking. They’re out there. Great video thanks. It keeps me optimistic.
More outboard repairs/service please especially on some of your bigger ones.
You do a Beautiful job on your videos, and I enjoy each and everyone of them. You are also a GREAT mechanic! Keep up the Good Work!
How lucky was you with this engine. Well done guys. "Great Job" as you Americans say. Keep them coming. Eamonn Evans (Worcestershire) England.
Really enjoy watching you restore boats. keep up the good work
She's seen some sandbars LoL polished tail fin and prop. I had a 25 like this and yes you're right they're one of the best I've ever run along with the older Johnson evenrude engines. 👌👍 Good vid
Nice work. It great to how you bring these things back to life.
That cleaned up nicely! Good work!
Instead of using Brillo which dulls the clearcoat finish, you can use denatured alcohol which removes the overspray but doesn’t harm the clearcoat finish.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE VID. I HAVE OFFICIALLY WATCHED LIKE 90% OF YOUR VIDEOS AND I THINK IT'S SAFE TO SAY THAT THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY THE BEST
I did the same thing with a short shaft 18 tohatsu i picked up for $150. It had been sitting outside since 2002! It was partially stuck and needed a new $60 cdi unit, plus a water pump, plugs and t stat, and carb clean. Thing started on the 2nd pull! These japanese small motors are amazing.
Always learning from you thanks Chris
Great video again! Enjoy watching your adventures.
Boy you hit it good on that one those are great sellers on the used outboard market .I just sold an 1986 Johnson 25HP mint condition for $850 and I paid $25 for it needed just the lower steering mount ,tilt bar and a carburetor cleaning so I know good deals when I see them.Great video really enjoyed it its usually 60% good-40% not good for me freeing up motors when they are seized from sitting or submersion and the rings arent stuck too bad.Its great when you really enjoy it & its a great way to make side money and make available affordable outboards for many people who just cant afford going $4000 or so for a new one....Glenn P.
Yes! I have almost the same motor. Nice to see you work on the small outboards again
Another great video!! Love these outboard resurrection videos!!
Wow !! well done amazing work man !!
Wish I was there to smell it fire up. Love that two stroke smell. Is that sunken sailboat your next project? You could pull it off I’m betting

@@TheDoug9901 That will greatly depend on the beach. Tropical beaches where the sand is mostly shells and coral, this is probably a viable option. Our "sand beaches" locally are mostly quite hard rock minerals, which is not ideal for soft metals and plastic =)

Great find and an awesome engine they are. Sounds great.

Great video , good job , i love yamaha , got a 15 hp from 1986 with still 130 psi on both cilinders great engines

What an awesome deal! Great work!
Awesome find, good work.
great video i love great deals like that i picked up a wilson flyer 14ft with a yamaha 85 hp 1990 that had been sitting in a drive since 2007 all we did was clean the carbs , new plugs and freed the engine off away she runs and with buying it and parts it stands me in £450
Mate ur videos are da bomb keep up the good work
Another great job👍
Awesome video!
awesome vid as always
I love your videos, they are so educational
Those 2 stroke 25 Yamaha's are very sought after, they still go for ridiculous money. I have one on a 14 Jon and we've had it to 35mph on GPS. They ripped for a little 2 stroke.
I think the funniest part is that you keep saying 1998 like it was a million years ago. Doesn't seem like that long to me but then I've got a lot of stuff that's even older like my 1985 Toro snowblower the boatload of tools from the same time period and then there's the '70 Chevelle. These years pass all too quickly and 1998 seems like just yesterday to me. Great job rehabbing a real workhorse.

To put it into the proper context. .. In 1998 we were still using dial-up modems. Remember? Pepperidge Farm remembers. It's ages ago to a modern kid. By the way I'm using a 1978 Lowe with a 1999 Johnson on it.

I was lucky in a similar situation, scored same motor on a boat that had sat for many years and was covered in shit. A good clean out and runs great for dirt cheap. I can imagine people finding these motors for decades to come and doing the same haha
You can hear the bearings roaring on that yammi. It’s normal for them to have good compression but still have bearings going south from being submerged.
