Out With The New & In With The Old | 1998 Harley Wide Glide

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

So here's the deal guys, I been up in the air about getting a new bike for a bit now and I finally pulled the trigger. I decided not to get a new softail mostly because I didn't want a payment anymore. I didn't want a twin cam because I wanted something a bit simpler. I decided I wanted an 80 inch evo engine and that meant dyna or softail. I got a hell of a deal on this bike so I jumped on it. I hope you all enjoy this experience with me. I know a lot of you are here because of my iron. If you leave, I understand. Thanks for the good times.

Very cool Bike brother. Can't go wrong with a carbed EVO. They just feel right. Steady power from idle on up. We had a beautiful day today about 75 degrees, and low wind and humidity so went out for a ride on my loveable old 99 Softail Custom. I love fall weather for riding. Just watching the sun glancing of the headlight, and listening to the drag pipes. Who needs a radio when you have that EVO music.

Built and rode a few Harley bikes over a 40 year period, but the best one was the last one I bought. 03 💯 year anniversary Dyna Low Rider Twin Cam 88 1450. It ate sportsters for lunch and a guy on a V-rod pulled up along side me in Wakarusa Indiana and challenged me. I said sure thing for pinks! He changed his mind and made a right turn and that’s the last I saw of him. That bike was made to go fast, and it was. Best Harley I ever owned. You made a good choice. If you get it jetted right and dyno tune in it might shock you. I’m gonna look for another one for my 65th birthday in July.

I literally just bought an 03 Anniversary edition wide glide. It's also my first Harley. Soon as I saw it I knew.it has that classic look I was looking for, and not bad at 4,000 I thought. Haven't even ridden it yet, well legally anyways. Really like the 2 tone paint scheme on that anniversary edition too.

Just now seeing this, Zack. Love the bike. Pretty sure the motor mount is alright. Those dynas are rubber mounted, so they're gonna shake a little bit in the frame. Also an intake leak may be the cause of the change in idle. It's not that uncommon for that to happen. Real easy fix though if that's the issue.

Sounds like your carb needs to be adjusted. Low idle sounds cool but it’s heavy on the low end. Adjust your idle to around 1000 rpms then adjust the air mixture to get it right between lean and rich then make sure you’re at 1000 rpms again after adjusted. Then adjust the accelerator pump and check throttle response for no bogging. She’ll def be roaring mean soon after. Sweet ride. I have a 98 FXDWG anniversary edition. Old school cool

The 1998 Evo is the best bike HD has ever made as far as reliability and quality. The FXR's have better handling but they only lasted until 1994 (with limited edition runs after that). Best castings, best carb, best clutch. You might have to re-jet the carb. 48 low and 180/185 main jet is the "standard". Runs good in any 1200-1340cc HD.

I got mine all chromed out and im looking for someone to put ceramic on my paint and the paint won't fade and it'll be really really shiny. A first-class choice Zack! After the classic '82 Shovelhead FXWG Wide glide, the old 1340 Big TwinEvo motor was the best second choice! None of this complicated, expensive, fancy, Twin-Cam stuff! If the Headlight is Dipping the wrong way, and the Speedo is out of calibration, the bike may be an import/wheel size? I had exactly the same problem with my bike being imported from the "Metric" Continent to England! She looks similar to my 85/96 Honda CMX250C Rebel in appearance..(apart from the motor!). I know this is a older video but, what clued you in that the bike was running just a little rich ? I'm fairly good with carbs, I grew up with them. I'm just trying to hone my skills. I've got my bikes running pretty good. even when they're running well I always wonder if they are a little rich or a little lean. a little lean seems easier to spot than a little rich.

Wow I'm super late to this comment. I could tell because of the way the exhaust was smelling. I'm not telling you to stick your nose in the pipe, its just something that comes from experience.

Great video, looking for my first real bike that's not a dual sport. There are a few wide glides in my area for sale but I don't what years are better over others , doesn't really matter. High maintenance and leaky as I hear a these stories but it's usually from Harley haters and my Honda Shadow friends.. Lol. Probably going to be my only bike and maybe last one also.. Lol. Any ideas or advice on years and all that there?

had my 98 wide glide 17 years .Absolutely reliable .Get the last of the carb wide glides ( i think 99 was last carb model ) so simple. Just remember to.let her warm up before riding off or you could get oil leaking from cylinders.Awesome bike.

I also have a 98 wide glide. It's fully modified and now is an 89inch but it's such a great platform. Very reliable and stupid easy to work on.

From what I've been told you don't need to know anything. Tire pressure, oil level, high octane petrol and brake pads.
