Dang this thing is a lot bigger than I imagined. I have one on the way to use in a property gate opener system.

It was larger than we expected, but has a good sized screen, which works for where it is aimed at - apartment blocks etc - wonder if there will be a Lite version as some point as well

Is it possible to run the intercom without viewers? We would like to add mobile (app) users to the directory of the intercom. The visitor selects the resident from the menu and the resident then receives a push notification and can open the door. Is that possible with the UA-intercom?

That's a lot of glare. I'd sure like to see it with the sun on it like it would be at my place. I see there is some trim available for it that put a little hood at the top. I hadn't thought I'd need one until now.

I think you will need to add a Sun Hood to allow it to be clearly seen.

hi dear, i have an old historic bronze keyboard that i use it as secondary entrance. In the general entrance i will use the ubiquiti intercom. In the bronzed keyboard i have 6 buttons. Can i reassign the others input of the access hub to call the apartment inside a secondary block?

For once Ubiquiti have done a good job with leaving a lot of the features either unused or open to further improvement. With the physical buttons this is perfect for a gate entry system. Hopefully we will be able to configure it to be used for that, where it would then give the option to remove the directory and have one press ring on the ring button

Does this need to be plugged into the control hub directly or will it work just being on the same network? I'd like to use this in conjunction with an extended range POE switch (180 metre driveway), would this work?

Good question. This can be plugged in to any PoE power source. It needs to be in the same IP segment at the Console (may be a way to get around this as well) If you can get power to it you should be able to use it.

I want to know what the calling experience is for the apartment occupant. Many older systems call a phone number on file, which works great for immediately getting the attention of the occupant, but what does the Unifi Intercom do? Is it just a push notification? Does it take over the occupants mobile phone screen and present itself as a "call" using Apple CallKit framework? Using the wall mounted viewer device or using a Ubiquiti desk phone are not adequate options for this use case, the occupant needs to be be notified of visitors as quickly as possible on their mobile phone, but in a manner that won't get missed.

That is a great question. Firstly it can be linked to the UP-Chime so you can have extra sounders in the property. As to the alerting, it is the same as in the Unifi Protect App. If my screen is locked I get a notification at the top of the screen saying somone is calling along with an audible sound, but it did not take over the whole phone in our testing I am afraid.

That’s going to be a big downer and prevent a lot of properties from using this product. I also read that right now you have to use an intercom viewer and the residents can’t use the app? Regular push notifications don’t make sounds when the phone is on silent and they’re super easy to miss.

@@taylorlightfoot I also think this is a big disadvantage. It would be desirable to have a connection to a VOIP so that you can directly store phone numbers that can be called. Alternatively, I would also like the Wiegand protocol to be supported for Access Reader.

OK, say I go for a walk and forget my phone. I lock myself out of one of the two gates I use the intercom to control. Can I let myself in my gate using a code, do you know?

Can each tenant use the app instead of the viewer? Will they be able to have a two way conversation through the app?

  • @The_Tech_Geeks

    @The_Tech_Geeks

Yes, each tenant can use the app and have access through the app. You would want to create each tenant with a name like apartment one as their attendant name. They can can share that same login across multiple devices to be alerted when their apartment is chosen from the directory. I hope this helps.

  • @golden355

Unfortunately, no, that is incorrect. The directory is only for those with a Viewer. We hope this will change soon so that tenants can be listed on the Directory connected via their Access Mobile App.

  • @The_Tech_Geeks

That is interesting as the first entry in the directory list is the attendent assigned to the UA Hub / Intercom as when we first created and set this up the viewer had not been released. Again I will try a setup in due course and see what works.
