we should take a photo of the Green sign "Public Byway" and keep it in an indestructable safe for posterity. Most of the signs in Derbyshire say "Restricted" or "Downgraded" and remind anyone who uses historic byways or Rupps for motor transport that they will invite an air-strike and more police man hours than a murder. You need to preserve the status of these green lanes or they will become bridle-paths or worse footpaths if pressure groups get their way. Councils either are in league with them or bend over without argument.

I had a 2017 CCM 450 low seat probably the most sensible bike I ever owned. light low seat 20 liter tank I once got over 260 miles on one tank . I traded mine in at CCM for a CCM blackout scrambler love this bike as well Yea Nathan you summed it up it's a marmite bike .

Looks a absolutely great bike. Need other manufacturers to take up the challenge and up there game as it’s something that is seriously lacking In the current market. You can go down the enduro bike route but there’s always service intervals and fuel range holding them back unless you modify them.

Great review Nathan, I still have my 2015 Gp and agree with most of what you have said. It was a bike before it's time, but hamstrung by the high vibration 5 speed competition engine they used. In my opinion CCM have lost their way a little abondoning this project, they have the husky 630 engine rights which would have transformed the bikes on road capability with only a little compromise to off-road capability.

I remember when they came out thinking nice bike shame about the price, wouldn't mind picking up a second hand one now though

I do like the Kove 450 Rally. I know all 3 bikes finished the Dakar but it’ll be interesting to see if they hold yo to green laning through a Devon winter.

That’s a sweet bike. Lightweight and a decent power to weight ratio are vastly underrated qualities in all bikes, but especially adventure bikes. I’m currently designing a BMW F650 Dakar engine based lightweight adventure/dual sport, employing a modified CCM 604 frame. My plan is to replace the perfectly acceptable EFI system with possibly a Mikuni carburettor. This will eliminate all the emissions legislation compliance complications, any one of which can cause the engine to refuse to start when they go faulty. I want a basic, reliable bike that I can fix at the roadside - as bikes used to be. I could probably get almost what I want in a used 2016 CCM GP450 for £5,500, but it would still 200cc short.

on paper the bike for me, tried at the time to get a demo ride even offered to help run a demo day local to me the office peeps were absolutly useless would not answer the phone, return calls as they said they would, mate had the same experience, a few came local and very much a mixed response on them, perhaps for those used to having a spanner in one hand OK, but all in all was I very close even recently but dodged it. probably an even less sensible purchase today for a "user" as you say no parts or support and those with anything are going to hold on to them. To my mind a sad tale CCM were pretty damn close to my mind but fell on their face in the end, a real shame but just to much for them perhaps, them silly flat cap bikes they got now a easier game in the short run I imagine. Good comments from yourself about the bike, not so sure about CCM service though. ta very much.

Great review! I'd love to see a British manufacturer design a bike that could go head-to-head with a Himalayan. A 450cc, 150kg, two-wheel LandRover built with British weather and terrain in mind.

I think the problem would be that it's just not realistic to build that kind of bike with that kind of weight here in the UK and charge a price the mainstream would be happy to pay. Pity we can't!

I'm surprised a Taiwanese company didn't take up this engine. The trend was downward in engine size when this came out. Instead I saw Chinese 650 hybrid designs (Honda bottom/Rotax top) coming out. Even BMW didn't use some of the ideas on their Indian 310.

It'll be interesting to see how the new Voge rally 300 does when it gets on the UK roads in, March, I think. At £3,799 it's quite a bit cheaper than the Himalayan, and quite a bit lighter. A CRF300 knock off.

Yeah I should have mentioned the Voge as I agree, at that price point it's a very interesting proposition. I can't see it being significantly worse than the CRF either, definitely not £3k worse. Also it's a good move now that they've switched importers to MotoGB rather than Lexmoto. MotoGB has just lost Royal Enfield so I think they'll have some spare energy and a good dealer network to push Voge in a way Lexmoto never could. Just a shame they've canned the 500s as they were decent bikes.

Yeah the new Himalayan could be a brilliant half way house between the current one and the CCM. It's said to have the same power (4obhp) though I can't see it being as light. If it's 10 kilos lighter than the current Himalayan I'd be amazed, especially with the radiator to bolt on. But as a travelling war horse it'll definitely be better than the CCM.

I think the CCM is a cool looking bike probably the case off the right recipe but years ahead, I reckon it if was out now with a Suzuki DR650 based engine itd sell well. The AJP is an interesting bike Heather Sinclair used one on her travels, when I was trying to decide what to get I seriously considered one but the cam chain interval was quite low timing chain , the timing chain tensioner and the timing chain guides + the timing gear are all to be replaced at the 20,000 km so that ruled it out at the initial research stage for me wouldn't fancy doing that in the middle of morocco. The tech bothers me slightly on the 450 Himalayan when the 410s inc mine are still having issues like my swingarm and miss aligned yokes that I spotted and relays silly little things that should be sorted at PDI. If you can't get the basics right you end up with a bike like the two 390s dad and I rejected can't beat simple tech, all my opinions have changed recently I'd soon have less power lighter an more reliable that's my humble take on it, you certainly can't beat the beautiful spec of that ccm though propper exotica. Which leaves the usual ones off crf300 rally and Himalayan I'm loving the 410, it's interesting I probably won't be looking at the 450 as in my head the 410 is pretty much exactly what I need and I'm loving it. Basically a modern day version of my 1944 ww2 long stroke single but double the power. I reckon dad might he interested in it but he's become really into the idea of the lighter bikes so itl probably be a Honda. After watching lots of Austin vince so we shall see. I reckon if eventually there's a drop in sales off the big bikes then light stuff will get made if you look at superbikes then 250s then back to superbikes then cafe racers then big advs goes in trends of what they can market soon as it drops they will fuel something else via the bike magazines. Like everything being 270 degree Parallels now. Comes in waves with regards to what they can market and is cost effective from my understanding the 270 is a cheaper method with regards to the cranks and lack off balancing but marketed as mimicking a vtwin so therefore seen as a plus very clever way off saving money.

They already made a bike with a DR650 engine (I have one) and by this point I think it's a bit out of date to be putting in a modern bike. I do think they dropped the ball making it a 450 though, I'd definitely get a 650

I remember going to the NEC with my Dad and seeing these. Possibly my second year of riding, maybe 2013? I remember I was very dismissive, thinking it was too slow, too expensive (seems like an absolute bargain now, £8500 new). My Dad on the other hand loved it, saying it was absolutely ideal for the U.K. roads. Nowadays I’d love a modern interpretation, possibly with a Honda 450 engine. It was seriously ahead of it’s time, and it’s a real shame that none of the big manufacturers build anything like this.

I bet the engine is lively. Don't you think the Caballero Rally 450 fills the gap you talk about? Bolton isn't small: the actual town has a population of almost 140,000. Not that that matters. This is a great bike. The Kove 450 looks well. Interesting video. I must have missed this one somehow.

I do reckon they could make the unicorn bike if they wanted to Nathan I've been reading about the crf500ls people are building 200 mile range cb500x engine in a 250l chassis, 47bhp 43mn and 153kg.

I'm not convinced the business plan would stack up for honda. I suspect it'd also be closer to 175 kilos rather than 155. The CRF300 is 160 or so and the twin in the 500 must be a fair bit heavier. I dunno, I do like my singles!

​@@nathanthepostman edit just got up to the bit on the persons build thread weighed on a set of scales accurate to 0.5kg at 156.5kg fully fueled it's an interesting prospect though, I've not finished the build thread on ADV Rider very interesting reading though If I come across any pics of wet weight I'll update. That was info the builder posted on Horizons called crf500l 3 the Brit remix, I'm the same tbh mate love my singles! The Himalayan n older Norton long strokes have been the most fun I've had on the bikes I reckon dad might end up going for one of the Honda's or a XL Honda or DR650 Suzuki just getting my head round prices if he doesn't like my Himalayan when he has a go on it. I get the feeling he might want a bit more poke personally though for me the Himalayan's been brilliant so far.

​@@nathanthepostman oh yep meant to say Nathan if you are looking for a decent mic check out the Rode Lavilier go pro. I got one after having endless trouble with audio got it mounted just below lip level in the helmet and getting good audio now the struggle was real before that.

The dash Is the same as the SWM RS 650 and Superduel and the old Husky TE 630

Yes a few parts are shared between the SWMs and the BMW Husky era bikes. CCM now use the engine from the SWM superdual in their Spitfire roads bikes.

I actually road a CCM 450 about 5 years ago here in Australia at an Horizons unlimited event , they are only a 5 speed box by memory ? . Love your channel and your postie bikes 😂😂👍

The day CCM decided to pander exclusively to the hipster market with themed overpriced marketing exercises, they DID start making money, but they lost everything that the company once was. And the lads running the company now even appear to be ignorant of the true origins of the design of their current range’s frames. At the last London bike show before the lamestreme media fearporn plandemic induced insanity, I spoke with them on their stand. There were several frames painted in different colours. What they all clearly have in common is PRECISELY the same top tube radius as the Norton Manx frame. Yet none of them would concede the obvious influence. Instead they insisted that their designers had only original ideas…!🙄👀🧐😎😜🙈 There’s nothing new under the sun. And as Picasso and Woody Guthrie both knew, you steal from the best. It’s supreme arrogance to deny your influences, especially when the evidence is so obvious.
