I've just bought one around a month ago. It was a CCM approved bike so I had to collect it from the factory in Bolton and ride it back home to Newcastle (Tyne) First 10 minutes in traffic I hated it but I'd planned a route keeping me predominately on B roads and unclassifieds. Soon as I got away from the traffic and into the countryside it was brilliant. You could fly along at a good pace because of the upright seating position which gives you a good view ahead. I even did a couple of forest tracks on the way. 40 bhp might not seem alot but I might have seen 90 mph on the speedo on the three miles of motorway I couldn't avoid. Haven't been on it since because of work. Two days off now and the weather looks decent so hopefully a good time riding it again. Good review Cheers

I'm tempted, mates got a spitfire. I like the attitude of the company and the build quality of his Spit. I might have to look into this further 👍 It'll be too late for the big trip though, accompanying my son on his Himilayan for two weeks of his three month adventure in Scandanvia, that'll be your fault, remember ? I'll be on my bullet, so I'll have a very sore and sorry fifty four year old arse at the end 😆. Happy days, can't wait 😉

Really brave project and a great crossover between light enduro and adventure. Also loved riding the AJP PR7 - definitely room for these crossover bikes in small numbers 👍

I was watching in the hope of the Himalayan update, so not dissapointed, though would be pissed not to have my bike for several weeks! Friend had a CCM with a 600 Rotax lump, the thing was a beast! I reckon must be a hoot to ride with 40hp and no weight to speak of. Jobs a goodun.

I bought a brand new ccm 644ds in supermoto trim in 2003 and it was an absolute blast to ride. Virtually no weight, WP suspension and the stickiest tyres that I could find. I had a few issues with the exhaust cracking but the Suzuki lump was super reliable, and as it was so basic there was very little else to go wrong.

Nice one to get a hold of a bike you've fancied for ages. I still have a soft spot for the early electric start dr350 that I abused terribly in the olden days. Look forward to hearing whats wrong with the himalayan (as a new owner of one). Seeye at the bunkhouse thing in Nov.

Great choice 👍, I have a few lightweight adventure bikes, but the CCM 450 has always been one that I would like to try and maybe purchase in the future if I could find a nice one. Good to see you have added this interesting bike to the fleet 🎶

I sure get you wanting one of those GP450 bikes, I was drooling over one of those myself, as I did the MX bikes many years ago with the superb frame with some of the neatest welding on any bike I have ever seen, I seem to remember that a guy called Mick Eatough. he later manufactured his own bikes , EMC. From memory they had a yellow plastic tank Sachs engine and he extended Marzochi forks to beyond anything alse at the time. Japanese MX bikes still were using steel tanks, my KLX250 did. I did, some years later at a show, put a deposit down on a CCM 604E (I think) again, I was sold on the build and high quality components used, it was Rotax engine and a cow to start, it had to go back to get resolved, trouble is, the bikes you see at the show spot nice components, but the bike you get can be of lesser spec components...hmm. I never did get a few items that were promised For the above reason, as much as I like them, I chose to not buy a GP450. I admit to being a tad envious though 😉 There was one in Appleyards in keithley when I was there a couple of months ago, was I still tempted, of course I was !

Been hankering after a CCM for a few years now. Just the price holding me back I think, so need to try it before committing. Now I'll have the chance when I can make the long trip down from the north east...!

Like you I wanted one of these as soon as they came out. Saw one at the NEC, maybe 2014? I’ve had a couple of opportunities to buy one in the last couple of years but never quite been able to bring myself to do it. It’s absolutely right up my street for a fun second bike, light, single cylinder, capable off road but the longer term reliability reports aren’t great and I always worried about the factory support. Really looking forward to seeing how you get on with it though! There’s a very large thread on the ABR forum which is good, as well as a few on ADVrider. Really hoping CCM take a break from selling expensive motorcycle sized jewellery to middle-aged men and release a 600/650 version using the engine from the AJP PR7…

Plenty of additions to iron out any potential shortcomings as it rolled off the line . Perhaps we all need a more all round bike if we only own one bike. But, have to admire the single mindedness. And the bottom line is if you want one, sod what anyone else thinks. Enjoy. Happy travels

Always wanted one but the finicky engine alway held me back. Imagine it with the Husqvarna derived engine CCM use now...or the 370 KTM engine? 😉 Very much looking forward to seeing you out riding it.

I like this CCM. An purposeful stance on it. The only CCM I've ridden was a service bike at Bracken, the KTM place in Bermondsey. I think it was the 604. Dreadful gearbox. Maybe it was just that particular bike. Very interesting video.

Ive got the SR Nathan & did 1200 miles on the standard 5 speed box when mine broke, tbh I preferred it! For the record CCM were excellent when that happened, picked me up & gave me a replacement bike to continue my trip & take me home. Yours looks sorted, enjoy the riding & now it's yours are you going to thrash it up that gravel pit?

On paper the GP450 was the perfect bike for me when it came out, and maybe more so now. However I got to test ride it at the HUBB just after it's release and thought it too "sporty" for long term travel. The super responsive engine and eager handling, while great for blatting down lanes and having fun, would be too aggressive for exploring remote areas where caution is required. For my current need for a bike for the back of my campervan, that can do short tours, shopping and green-laning, it would be great..........but still too expensive 😪

So very tempted but you also like the Royal Enfield Himalayan and in a previous Video the Fantic Caballero 500 rally. would love to see your view on a comparison on these 3. (on/off road handling, fuel efficiency/ maintenance, etc).

  • @nathanthepostman

If I had to buy a bike out of those three to be best all rounder it would be the Himalayan. The Fantic is fun but I have reservations about it as a long haul bike, same with the CCM; I'm not sure I'd trust it to take me to Morocco. The Himalayan isn't dynamically as good as those two, but it should do the job with no fuss.

It was definitely the right way to go but maybe a Suzuki drz engine would have been a better choice For CCM to have used? (Well proven). It's a shame they didn't carry on with a updated model. I've never ridden one. So excuse to head to Devon 😂.
