My parents bought my best mare, Crescent's Peachie, grand daughter of King's Genius, from Grey Barham at Sandy Knolls Farm in Ohio. I will never forget him. i knew Junior C and trained under Stanley Jackson of Berea, Ohio. These were wonderful men. I rode or knew of some of these horses also. IIt makes me so proud to see this. They made sure I was safe as a young girl. Fine men.

Great video. I love saddlebreds. I have never been able to afford a horse but i did take lessons and did show other peoples horse's along with being a groom for many years. As it is many grooms and others that are behind the scenes never get noticed for their hard work and the love they put into these horses but it is worse when you never get acknowledged for all your work because of your race. I am glad this video was made because the history of any subject should be completed and accurate no matter what.

I was surveying a property next to a cemetery in Mexico Missouri. As I drove through the cemetery to get to a witness marker I stumbled across Thomas Bass’s grave not even looking for it but his headstone caught my eye and it registered to me that I knew the name so I backed up and read his tombstone

I knew Buddy Johnson back in the mid 80s. He also trained tennessee walking horses. I used to show my walking mare in a little country show in Little Valley NY, that's where I got to know him. We had a good time. Sadly he passed away of cancer a few years later.

I'm so glad you put this video out. There are so many stories out there of the "unseen hand" . One day I'll tell the story my father my father use to tell me when I was a young girl.

Thank you for the upload. There are still a lot of AA trainers in the pacer, big lick, racking, and saddle-seat genres. Because of the regions that these equitation styles dominate, blacks' contributions are sometimes minimized. No worries. We are progressing and I am optimistic any and every one that excel at what they do in the horse world will have fair share at the recognition.

Thank you for recognizing black trainers. They have been among the greatest and most accomplished trainers, yet, for far too long, could not ride horses they trained due to prejudice that, to some extent remains. I know of a black trainer named Lawrence Bogus who trained Saddlebreds in the Kansas City area. Anyone know whatever came of him?

I am still Deborah Webb wondering whatever happened to Lawrence Bogus. He was friendly, knowledgeable and good to the horses and people he was involved with.

I think these horseman where super sensitive to the feelings of the horses and developed a very close relationship to the point that the two became one united body.
