Update October 2023: It is well worth using a contactless card instead of queuing for a ticket, plus contactless is even cheaper than tickets (dependent on your bank). Simply swipe in at your entry train station and swipe out at your exit station.
April 2nd 2021: We arrived at Malaga Airport from Manchester, UK. This is a video of the train journey from Malaga Airport to Fuengirola with a few pointers and information for anyone wanting to make this train journey.
Due to dragging a heavy suitcase in one hand and holding the camera in the other there is a certain amount of poor quality filming, in addition filming out of a train window is not ideal. But this gives you an idea of the journey which takes approx 35 minutes in real time. Fuengirola is the last stop so you cannot miss it.
Explore Mijas Costa with our local walks in and around the surrounding areas of the Costa Del Sol including; Sitio de Calahonda, Dona Lola, Riviera del Sol, Cabapino, Fuengirola plus other locations in the sunshine of southern Spain.
ABOUT MICHAEL & STELLA
My name is Michael and my partner is Stella, we are based in Sitio de Calahonda which is located between Fuengirola and Marbella. We love to take to the boardwalk along the sea front in Mijas Costa and also enjoy walking through the surrounding local towns here in the Costa del Sol, we also take to the road by car and taking the fabulous local buses to nearby towns. Join us for a walk in the sunshine as we explore walks, cafes, bars and the rest of the Costa del Sol.

Do the same trip twice a year ,nice and easy and cheap
A very helpful video. Clear and concise. I've been going for 40 years and nearing retirement soon. I can't believe the money i've poured into the pockets of taxi drivers. Given that most hotels don't allow you to check in until mid afternoon this is a boon. Use your time wisely and enjoy mixing with the beautiful people of Spain. 🇪🇸👍🏴

Great video. If you are doing this trip 2024 you can swipe your debit card at the entrance gate. Remember to swipe it again when you exit at your destination. Some stations don't have this facility, all the main stations do however. Since this video was made the cost of travel has been slashed so you might find the trains are packed - usually no problem. Enjoy Spain it is wonderful.
I go to fuengirola twice every year. I use that train all the time it's extremely cheap & no long walking involved. People who use taxis are silly. Malaga city is lovely & benalmadena

Hi, the running time is 33 minuted and they run every 20 minutes

As mentioned, yes there are plenty. You can also book with Bolt etc

The train does not go to Granada, but there is a bus service.
Is this near the globules guardinia hotel in carvajal

Tickets are €2.70

As of Feb 2023 the tickets via the machine are 3.20 euro, or if you use a contactless card they are 2.70 euro. This is for Malaga airport to Fuengirola.
