These list videos are great. Thanks for making them. Out of the shmups in this video, what are the easiest ones? I'm terrible at the genre but wish to improve (and enjoy myself at the same time)!

What a list. I own all but 5 of the games mentioned and even opened a Japanese account to get Esp.Ra.De.Psi. For beginners, the game that got me into shmups was Skyforce Reloaded . It allows you to gain currency after each run which you spend on powering up, making it easier the more you play. My other favourites are Crimzon Clover, Graceful Explosion Machine and Jamestown.

If you guys really are into Shmups this much, you should definitely check out *the 'Flip Grip'* accessory for the Switch. It's hands down the definitive accessory to play Shmups in Tate mode (vertical). It's a 'frame' that you add to the console that basically allows you to use it vertically with the Joycons on the side. It works wonderfully, and it's retailed at a very decent price too. Simply put, it's a total *MUST HAVE!* I received mine like a week ago, and i haven't stopped playing my huge collection of Shmups since then, it's an absolute blast.

There is no way i could choose one your picks over the other, the whole video is awesome! Ive played DoDonPachi & Espgulda II on other systems so much, that i am going to wait for a physical edition (hope hope hope) before i pick them upon switch. So much goodness on this list :D

Would be good to see a Parodius remake/port/reboot. I loved that franchise. Horizontal shooters look great on the Switch.

The Overpowered mode in RollingGunner is rad! Gradius V was the first horizontal shmup I remember with a dual analog mode and RG reminds me of Treasure's masterpiece. Still waiting on my physical copy from Strictly Limited though.

Some all time classics here.. While I love the image of Jordan dismantling the living room to flip the telly, I've gotta give the win to Juan with R type. Amiga 500 crew 4 life ;]

Great review nice and fast showing lots of titles and getting to the meat of the good and bad (if any) for each one. How a review should be! Also music lover here what is the retrowave track playing at like 14-15 mins in? Guns blazing from Canada!!!

The visuals on Danmaku are amazing! - First thing that drew me to that game!

They really need to release Psyvariar and ESP Ra. De. outside of Japan. I think they would sell a heap with an international release. These two being exclusive to Japan seems to drive the price up to ridiculous amounts as well. Would love to get hold of these two and the Aleste Collection at a decent price. This is a solid list of games but the Switch library is strong and you could easily double the number and still be covering top shooters. I really enjoy all of the ones you have mentioned and they are good picks.

Psyvariar had a USA release.

Also Gunbird 2 and Dragon Blaze have the most satisfying hit sounds and feel as well as the explosion sounds. Two of my very favourite!

That's a lot of shmups, plenty of great ones here - but you somehow missed one of the very best: Crimzon Clover World Explosion!

Crimzon clover is good, but it comes with the side effect of most other shmups feeling kind of slow after you play it lol.

Pawarumi is back on Playasia for anyone that is interested. I got a copy a couple months ago and it's very affordable. I picked up Sine Mora, Pawarumi, Dimension Drive, Shikhondo and Deathsmiles 1 & 2 recently. Also surprised there was no mention of Crimson Clover World EXplosion.

Loved the video. Glad shmups keep coming to to switch. One of my favorites is the Game Paradise Cruisin Mix. 👊⭐️

Don't forget the NEO-GEO games on the Switch, Blazing star and Aero fighter 1+2 are $8 each and they're great games.

Yeah I have been wishing for a video like this. I absolutely suck at most shmups, but I am also sucker for them. I loved loved them since the NES days.

Amazing video guys, Thank You!! It’s going to cost me about $100 though 😂 Also…my favorite didn’t make it on the list, Sky Force Reloaded (I forgive you lol). The gameplay, upgrade system, online challenges, graphics, everything are top notch. And it’s under $10. Highly recommended!

I have Skyforce Reloaded as well and in my opinion it pretty much combines all of my least favorite aspects of shmups into one helluva stinky turd sandwich: underpowered weapons, uninspired art and an upgrade system that reminds me of playing free to play phone games, only without the means to spend cash in order to bypass the soul crushing grind.

Was Sky Force Anniversary in there?? I must have missed it! That’s my favourite shooter.

These are awesome recommendations. I would just add Andre Dunnos 2 to the list.

I must say ⭐️👊 because both lists have many of the best shmups … psykio, cave, treasure … and there could be many more to put there (even some from arcade archives) thanks a lot guys … and continue to review shmups on switch … I always love to hear you about shmups … and there are still some oldies I want to see ported on switch : Ketsui and mushi mishi pork from Cave, batsugun and tatsujin (Toaplan) radiant silver gun (treasure) and battle Garegga. No alerte on both of your list ? I would have put Razion EX and Sturmwind Dx on the list too And I already wait the next M2 port : his house same! Same! Same!

You guys always kill it with these epic lists! Can't pick a side on this one. ⭐ ✊ I did want to mention that R-Type Final 2 is also great on the Switch. Classic R-Type gameplay and challenge with tons of content. Lots of ships, weapons, and other goodies to unlock. It's a great one.

Was thinking of getting r type final 2, but I've heard/read about some mixed opinions regarding some possible performance issues present in the switch version? For those that have extensively played it, how smoothly does or does it not run? Because I would love to get into the game big time... including the base game as well as its tons & tons of DLC.

@@sofaking1180 It's seen some updates and I can confirm it plays much better than it did at launch. It's not perfect though, you'll get frame drops from time to time with large bullet patterns. There are also two stages in the base game that always have a bit of lag during certain sections.

Need a Whip Rush (Sega Genesis/MD) remaster for Switch. It's what got me into the SHMUP games as a kid, and I keep going back to it!

I put about 265 hours into MushihimeSama! So happy to see see it get a physical! The princess is free!!!

Capcom arcade is full of good shooters. Progear & Gigawing really stand out. Also UN squadron and twin bee are great, and free if you have the online service

Would love to get a switch OLED. Favorite Shump game on the switch is Shikhondo Soul eater. Love the Asian mythology inspiration art style, level design & boss designs. The downside to this Shump game is the lack of TATE mode that many other Shump games on switch have. Honorable Shump mention that I would give is Astebreed. A pretty cool 2.5D/3D Shump game from the talented developers over at Edelweiss. (The same team that developed Sakura of rice & Ruin.) ⭐️

Arcade classic + eye watering price suggests mame to me. Esp ra de runs great on there.

Picked up 'Sine mora EX' at my local cex for £4 lol bargain if you ask me! I love it, its got a decent story, even voice acting brings something different to the genre but a great shmup at the same time.

Treasure needs to release Radiant Silvergun on Switch.. the saturn and dreamcast are amazing stomping grounds for this style of games ..

I have all these digitally except black bird steredenn blazing star and illmatic envelope i have blazing star on a mame emulator and esprade these are some of the best shmups i ever played out of all the ones here i'd have to say my favorite is dodonpachi resurrection

Now I have all these mentioned on switch except esparade 👈🏻 (have that on mame) illmatic envelope swamp and black bird i do have radirgy swag id love to see illmatic envelope swamp come to the eshop here in the states

Been going to game stop every payday looking for shoot em ups for the switch especially raiden IV Ikaruga and Deathsmiles and Espgluda nope no luck I'd sell my soul to own any of those the only game i have that's close to a shooter is Metroid Dread

Honestly I am a little disappointed that no one picked azure reflections but it happens. 👊 But there someone has to win I guess.

Guys, what about Azure Reflections, a Touhou fanmade horizontal SHMUP that is tough as nails, but can also be played casually with a change of difficulty settings. Also, Jordan wins my vote, mostly because he mentioned Cotton Reboot, and Fantasy! ... I... Don't know how to leave a star when commenting from the computer... Going to try this: ⭐
