Our TERRIBLE HOSTEL EXPERIENCE | Budget Travel in Costa Rica
It's our first big travel mistake and we somehow ended up in the worst hostel ever. Cockroaches, brown sludge dripping from the showers, and insane heat with no windows - guess that's to be expected when you are traveling on a budget in costa rica. BUT .. we were also able to hang out with and feed monkeys the following morning! Turns out, there are a lot of travel mistakes to avoid when doing hostel travel in South America and making sure your booking dates are correct is one of the biggest.
In the end, we learned from our experience and lived to tell the tale!

EXACTLY. We’ve accrued a lot of stories to share with her and are SO EXCITED to meet her. Honestly, the night could have been worse - the place was really gross and hot, but it was a roof over our head and a bed to lay down on - which is all we need!
Do y’all remember my apartment near Washington Park in springfield I only had for a few months? That’s my craziest travel horror story.

I appreciate that!! I felt ridiculous crying in the moment, but it also made me feel better, being able to release the emotions!
Oh, that baby cry sound. Get ready, you two! In my day, we walked uphill, both ways, in 5 feet of snow. That’s what the hostel climb looked like. UGH. You two could have used some hugs. Floating 💩. Beautiful cockroaches. You are a loving mommy, Ruth! Don’t think baby would complain about you like you think baby would! OH MAH GOSH!!!! That is a bonkers restaurant. Wow. You deserve the spoils!

Baby is coming so soon! We can't believe we're in the final stretch already. And thankfully, at this point the horrible hostel is a distant memory. 😂
It’s not the hormones… I’d cry too😭😭 Does this mean if I go to the hostel in April and say I’m Ruth, I get to stay there… the monkeys would make it sooo worth it 🐵…. Glad you guys made it through…and as tough as it was… will be some of the most memorable moments 😊

Hahaha I'm HOPING I cancelled that reservation, but now you're making me think I should double check. 😅 It certainly was a memorable day and it's great to get to look back and laugh now... Now that we're a safe distance away. 😂
That did not sound fun! I think I would have ran out of there the second I saw a cockroach. Haha. Kudos to you guys for pushing through!

Oh man.. it was pretty bad 😬🤢… BUT at least it was a place to stay! We thought about going someplace else, but it was so late we weren’t sure we’d be able to find anywhere… at least it all worked out! And MONKEYS! 🐒😆🥰
My first time flying experience was less than stellar, but I know it could have been much worse. Had delays in Chicago O'Hare going both ways, and a 6 hour late lunch followed by a 6 hour late supper and a short 6 hours of sleep before heading back to the airport. I missed the entire meeting to which I was going, so it was just a really expensive trip for views of Lake Michigan, the New Mexico desert landscape and supper at TGIF 1400 miles from home.

Hi Guys thanks for this video. What was the name of that awful smelly hostel ? It`s against the law to feed the monkeys but I know many do it. Did you guys tour Manuel Antonio Park ? Hostal Selinas is a good place to stay.

It was called Hostel Manuel Antonio. We didn't know it was against the law! I'm surprised the hostel managers were encouraging it. We did tour the park and it was definitely one of the highlights of our stay! We got to see so many animals. We're making another video just of our park experience.
