Our secret to a successful Desert Garden {with little work}

Фильм және анимация

We've definitely had our failures here on our urban farm, but with this one tip we've had amazing success in the desert!
Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

    i live in the burbs, have no animals, in an older established neighborhood and our yard is very clean & tidy. We have roof rats, everyone does. they use the top rail of our fences as a super highway, and the run around the neighborhood helping themselves to everyones fruit and nut trees. i've never had a problem with them coming out during the day or getting into my veggie garden when i have one. we just got our first load of wood chips delivered and i was so freaking excited. lol.

    Conifer needles (like pine) are full of vitamin C; I'll bet that's part of why the goats like them. :)

    Are you going to start canning any produce ? I guess with good growing weather almost year round you don't have to but it sure tastes better than anything I know. If you have alot of watermelon you could make watermelon relish. Now for me, it's just me so I can grow just what I need

    To prevent watermelons from pulling on the vine breaking it you should use a small patch of netting to suspent them not affecting the vine

    need one of the those bucket mouse traps where you put a ramp with a trap door on the top that when the rat's weight is on the door it falls in the bucket of water and they drown. you could have your husband build it since he likes projects like that.

    It is their pasture. They want a large area to still run around in and allow their animals space. Also there are zoning laws that require land to be open for animals to roam in.
