Tonight I was at a small pub (known for playing pool) in Sydney. It is a shit hole but quiet enough to watch some rugby league with some mates on a Friday night. Buzzing after the Chelsea win this morning, I was in a mood to mingle and started chatting with an old fella from west London, a diehard QPR supporter. I asked him if he knew JLA, and he didn't. But he said he will give you a try.

Macca 1000% deserves to be in the conversation. Started the season playing as a 6 which isn’t his preferred position and if you look at the advance metrics he was ranked right near the top. Then as Endo grew into the team and Macca was moved to his preferred number 8 he has been insanely good. Some of the goals and assists he has this season are insane…. And that’s only a small fraction of what he does well. Controls the midfield very well, reads the game at a very high level. Works very hard. Never seems to be down or negative. What a player and for his price tag? One of the best bargains in history.

The Forest fan on the overlap made a good point that they only broke the rules because they sold Johnson a few weeks later than a deadline because they knew they would get more money from Spurs than Brentford. They didn't break the rules by selling players at certain times though did they. They broke them by taking loans of players from bigger clubs to get promoted and then lost most of them at the end of the season, they put themselves in the position that they couldn't get out of in time. The rules have to have a cut off date. U'd go mad if it was another "bigger" club and they got out of it by cherry picking buyers AFTER the time limit. U'd say it was the big club conspiracy.

He’s changed football, he’s made it cleverer, more intricate, more effective, probably “better” … but probably less entertaining. Can't stand in game win percentages. Don't care about predicted league positions. Let emotions decide who is likely to win. Not one to come to United’s aid but xG and xGA and therefor npxGD doesn’t take into account two extremely important factors, finishing ability and goalkeeper ability. This could also be luck, we’d have to look at every chance to decide that. A team having 0.2 xG in a game and being clinical so taking that one chance vs a team generating 2 xG but missing great chances doesn’t necessitate luck. Being clinical is important. Sure you want to create more and be more dominant but having clinical finishers is great too. At the other end, you can concede high xGA and your keeper can keep making great saves. This could also be luck as opposition strikers miss sitters. Sure you want to defend better as a team but it’s good that your keeper is saving them. Can’t just disregard those two immensely important factors to put it down to luck

For years I listened to people say "it's about winning, it's about results, not entertainment, specialist in failure". For years Arsenal have been criticised for being soft, for not being able to play different ways, for failing to be pragmatic. We have the most goals in the league. But one game with this approach and everyone is now flipping to the opposite sentiment. Lol

I think from a purely 'love of the game' perspective I get why fans are annoyed at Levy over the years but from a pure look at growth and financial power he's done fantastic, I think they're in a really good position now to really become a big club with the right investors.

When you're talking about entertaining football, that shouldn't just be about possession and shots. I'm an Arsenal fan and I derive a lot of enjoyment from seeing Gabriel and Saliba. Passion and physicality and last minute tackles and all that can absolutely be enjoyable. Flav's perspective sounds like he only enjoys watching half of his team.

@@kin9_derp952I'm not specifically talking about that game. Obviously that game was pretty boring. But, Arsenal have conceded four league goals since the start of the year. Their defense is powerful and active and fun to watch, I think you're just a little upset and that's okay.

@@kin9_derp952 if a 0-0 draw is a good result for arsenal (and it is) then I don’t see how it’s fair to criticise them so much for getting the job done. Arsenal have played very entertaining football most of the season but decided to be pragmatic while playing the toughest fixture in world football. They didn’t owe it to anyone to go out there and have a proper go at city.

@CocosaurusRex a good defense is great to watch my favourite season and team to watch was Chelsea when they conceded like 13 goals all season. The difference is that wasn't defending what arsenal did. Theirs a difference between defending and literally doing nothing

@jamesrutterford576 cuz man that ain't ok not like that. What they did was a piss take let's stop acting like they had to do that to get a result. Chelsea got a result playing good footie. Spurs too. Liverpool too. The problem is the cowardice the lack of entertainment as that's the root of football after all and the fact that look at Liverpool vs City in 19 20 20 21 18 19 that's how titles should be played not like that

Harry Kane looks around the foggy dream plane. Out of the mist appears the football gods. Pele, Cruyff, Beckenbauer and an old Chinese dude who Harry doesn't recognise. Cruyff notices the blank side-eye that Kane is giving him and says, "He's the guy who invented football in 11th Century China." "Oh right" says Harry giving the dude a nod.
