    You definitely need a set of post hole diggers or even a powered auger of some sort, to help you dig those post holes. I also suffer from back injuries from all the unnecessary heavy labor i did in my youth, trying to show off my strength, impressing my co-worker friends with now much I could lift on my job. Several back injuries later, I now cen get a muscle strain from just bending to pick up a pencil. Any investment in making things easier for you will prolong your health and save you from that pain. Its no fun having to crawl to the bathroom or being stuck in bed all day, hoping to get better. Excited to see this part of the build. Stay warm and healthy!

    I'm a retired landscape design and construction owner and I know exactly what you're talking about. I found that moving around every hour really helps the arthritis in my knees. I am trying a turmeric drink with pepper cinnamon nutmeg Ginger paste and hot coconut milk, delicious and good to reduce inflammation. But we'll see I don't like too much Tylenol. Take up yoga or Tai Chi and especially slow swimming helps. keep moving.

    🎉 woohoo! How exciting to get this next level build going!!❤ Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 Jim, with all the post holes in the build, and possible fencing in the future, a powered post hole digger (auger) seems like it would me a really good investment. We're not getting any younger and i feel it would help speed up that task now and in the future ❤ Also, PROFOUND is the perfect description of Jesses post last vide. It was pretty raw as you mentioned. That wife is truly brilliant ❤❤❤

    Jim and Jess, I'm glad your framing lumber has arrived. Are you going to burn and oil your posts, or treat the part that gets buried, to keep them from rotting easily? Interested in seeing your project as I'm sure you have great ideas. Always glad to hear you both have your priorities where it counts the most, taking care of each other and loving each other. Jess, glad your brother is also close to you, and he's a wonderful guy to help you with your journey of living off grid. So awesome! Wish more siblings helped each other like that! God bless you all!

  • @diyfferent

    There is no need for them to burn and oil those posts. They are already pressure treated, plus they live in the desert...they will last a very long time.

  • @lizcastro8069

    @lizcastro8069

    4 ай бұрын

    @diyfferent Glad they don't have to treat the posts further in their climate. Here in Colorado I had built a lean to (open) shed in 1995, with four cedar 4"x4" posts, and four pressure treated posts. I treated all the post ends with burnt oil. Let them soak 24 hrs in it, actually. A few years later it was damaged in a fire, so I had my brother tear down what was left to clean up the area. The posts had all rotted below grade, except for one of the cedar posts. My brother just had to rock them a bit and they fell apart. He called me over to take a look. Wow, it was a surprise to see that! The building might have fallen over in a strong wind, if it hadn't come down when it did. We were lucky. Just wouldn't want that to happen to anyone else's project.

    ............G'day, Dear Jim, Jess, and Peter. I remember when all you had for shelter was the camper-van and the struggle to protect it from the weather. Then the water collection. then the Dome. I had a similar dream in the '60s, the WHOLE EARTH CATALOG, GEODISIC DOMES. Life led me in other directions and I am now alone at 82 renting after owning four parcels of land and a house, the death of two wives. I am here wondering why I am being tested, and what great task will be asked of me in the future. Love you guys. Love and kind regards, Malcolm.

    Jim, please think about putting batter boards up on your corners. It’s three steaks offset of your corners about 3 feet you can slide your strings along 1x4s Screwed to your steaks level and get it exactly square and move your strings exactly where you need them and you’re not in the way of your hole it is 2x4 s and three steaks and no they are away from your holes and you can get your corners exactly square that way

    pallets.... mouse houses!!! one thing that no one mentions is that the desert moves. the earth it self moves from rain and temp variations. I learned this by living out here for 24 years. what starts out as a straight level line of concreted posts ends up "not so much" 10 years later..... when you pour your floor tie the posts together. one of the smart things that I did was to build with steel. the moisture content of the wood does cause it to misshape over the years.
