🚛 Hi there! I'm Chase Barber from Edison Motors, and this is our special "Grant Application" video detailing our ambitious plan to build a state-of-the-art shop in Terrace, British Columbia.
🌟 About Edison Motors: We're a dynamic team of loggers-turned-innovators from Merritt, BC. Our journey began two and a half years ago with a dream to create a superior electric truck. Behind me is "Carl," our very first prototype, a tangible proof of our concept. Born from a 1962 Kenworth frame, Carl symbolizes our dedication and innovation in the electric vehicle industry.
🔌 Enter "Topsy," our latest creation and North America's first full hybrid truck. We've navigated the complex terrain of approvals and VIN acquisition and are now poised to meet the increasing demand for our electric drive trains. However, our current manufacturing setup - a tent at my mom's house - is far from ideal for large-scale production.
🛠️ The Challenge: With over 1,300 paid reservations, we're at a pivotal point where expanding our manufacturing capabilities is crucial. Our solution is to purchase and refurbish a historic site in Terrace - the former Hayes truck manufacturing plant. This site is not just a building; it's a piece of BC's truck-making heritage that we aim to revive and modernize.
💡 Our Strategy: We're infusing new life into this old plant by retrofitting it with the latest in environmental and safety standards, as well as modern automation and production technology. This upgrade will enable us to efficiently meet the burgeoning demand for our electric and hybrid trucks.
🌱 Sustainability at Its Core: Our trucks are designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By retrofitting existing diesel trucks with our electric-powered axles and battery packs, we offer a sustainable alternative to discarding old trucks, thereby reducing waste and promoting environmental responsibility.
☀️ Beyond Trucks: Our commitment to sustainability extends to solar energy. A key part of our plan involves installing solar panels on the entire roof of our new shop, further underscoring our dedication to renewable energy and self-sustainability.
📈 The Investment Opportunity: We're currently finalizing our investment round to raise $12 million. With a solid customer base already in place, we're on the brink of revolutionizing the truck industry in BC and beyond.
🔥 Our Passion: This isn't just about trucks; it's about reigniting truck manufacturing in BC, something that excites us immensely. We're not just building trucks; we're building a legacy.
👍 If you're inspired by our vision, please like, subscribe, and consider supporting our grant application. Your support could help us turn this dream into a reality.
Stay tuned for more updates on Edison Motors' journey towards reshaping the truck industry with innovation and sustainability at its core. Together, let's drive into a greener future!

Remember USA does not equal even all of North America, let alone all of America. Canada is a wonderful American country. the USA is an American country. Mexico, Panama, Belize, El Salvador, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, Venezuela, the Guyanas, and others I must apologize that my brain is glitching and I am forgetting them, are all American countries. Just because the residents of the United States of America proclaim ourselves “Americans” does not mean that all these other people are not also “American”. However I can understand Canada and British Columbia being proud to call the Edison Motors team their own.

Awesome that your company is continuing to work on bringing truly efficient hybrid trucks to the market. it's something that is severely needed in my opinion. I will note something you probably didn't know regarding the claim of being the "North America's first hybrid truck". There used to be a company called Efficient Drivetrains, Inc. down here in the other CA. They prototyped several hybrid mid to large commercial trucks (though likely slightly lower classes) and did a few limited hybrid conversions of several fleet vehicles. I helped emission test one way back in 2015, it was pretty amazing. Seems though in 2018 they were acquired by Cummins. Which then seems to not have done much of anything with the technology. Very strange that.. Hoping the best for Edison Motors. keep growing and expanding and hopefully one day I'll see one of your trucks on the roads.

That's so cool about that factory! My dad used to have a 74 Hayes Clipper in Alberta that I am trying to find. It was dark blue with big flake in the paint with a baby blue roof and sleeper cap, white lightning bolts on the sides, aluminum body and frame, twin polar bears on the hood. Manual steering, Jacobson Rubber block in the rear and a piece of structural steel tubing for the front bumper It was last spotted in 1978 or so with "Blackies Transport" crudely painted on the door. This thing was a show truck when dad had it, and even if I can just find the body, I can build it up for him!

@@Jessev741 I believe their trucks are better because it doesnt have to be full electric, and full electric vehicles such as the Tesla Semi do not do as well in cold climates (such as canada and northern countries) which makes it unreliable. Also, we have gas stations that supply diesel and gasoline across the north american continent, but electric chargers are still not implemented enough yet. The point im trying to make is the tech for full electric vehicles in my personal opinion isn't there yet (and their batteries create a ton of CO2 during production and lithium mining) so advancing to diesel-electric and similar forms of energy is just a better idea right now then trying to make electric vehicles work as reliably as diesel or gasoline vehicles.

We used to get our tire work done there when I was a kid when it was the old Fountain Tire location. I spent many hours waiting in the front. It will be interesting to see what they do with the place.

I can't wait to see where this will go, so much room for opportunity! P.S. y'all might want to consider releasing your videos at a time where most of NA is a wake.

From our experience, it doesn’t make a difference, it might make a difference for initial views in the first 12 hours, because people are awake, but it doesn’t make a difference in the long run. Our videos often take a few days or even weeks or months before they gather speed. KZread pushes videos based off of retention, as well as other things, not because a larger portion of your key audience was awake when you released the video. When a video gets picked up in the algorithm, KZread does not care that 4 weeks earlier it was release at a peak time that day, 4 weeks ago.

Terrace is a bold choice, i like the historic throwback homage. 7ish hrs remote out of a main hub, shipping costs are gonna be higher, add a day to transit time. I'm guessing we're serving the North American market and not shipping out thru PR. Added benefit is that shiney new CVSE site at Thornhill. It'll help revitalize that area, there's a fair bit of opportunity nearby for some sales opportunity, and i wonder if some of the early clients are nearby....

If they're getting stuff out of a shipping container (such as builk orders of axles, batteries, wheels, tires, windows, solar panels, and so on), there's a new logistics yard being built in the old sawmill yard south of the tracks, so drayage will be just a kilometer or two, and they have their own trucks for that. Getting steel delivered by rail should be cheap as well. They could also ship out new trucks on flat cars from there. And right behind the building is Terrace Steel Works, which does welding, fabricating, and machining, if they want to outsource some work. It's really not a bad location logistically, unless they're doing LTL. They just gotta watch out for the drug zombies that roam downtown now.

Wishing you the best of luck, I haven't quite pulled the trigger on one of the pickup kits, it's a tough question as I'm retired and it would only be a daily driver, not a commercial vehicle. I'm hoping the concept will catch on with different parts of the automotive industry. A smaller diesel engine smaller generator, smaller axle maybe with a choice of horsepower & torque for different applications. Like a Ford 9 inch has different gearing options

I know, Sandy Munro, took at look at it. You need to look at the cost of manufacturing first, 250000-300000k per truck 20% net. And look what type manufacturing to pull that off. Please please please, get Munro to help you.
