Our paediatric respiratory nurse specialist Liz explains good inhaler technique

❓ Did you know using a spacer with your metered dose inhaler (MDI) helps the right amount of medicine get to your lungs?
As part of #AskAboutAsthma week, paediatric respiratory nurse specialist Liz is here with one of her young patients, Evelyn, to show you how to use an inhaler with a spacer and face mask.
You can also check your technique at your annual asthma review.
❗ Remember to speak to your GP or asthma nurse if you’re not sure which type of inhaler you’re using.

@brothertn708 I don't know for sure, but it did MOSTLY go away after 1st grade. It started getting worse starting 7th grade though 🤷‍♀️ I waited until 8th grade to talk to my doctor and start using an inhaler again 👍

I used to use the same spacer when I was little 😂 Even though it was only about 10 years ago, it feels like yesterday

Is it normal for some fumes/gas to escape from the pump end where the pump goes into the spacer, once you’ve pressed the pump to administer the medicine? I always get that for some reason. Unsure if it’s safe and correct.

I remember using this as a kid! I don’t know why though, for as I know, I don’t have asthma nor have my parents ever told me that I used to have asthma.

I need to hold my baby 's head and take the inhaler chamber, so can I press the puff and let the MDI powder get to the chamber before I seal the mask on my baby's face? Thanks!

Its probably just a side effect of the steroids. They can cause hoarseness. You should make her gargle with water everytime after she takes it. If you dont rinse your mouth after it increases risk of an oral yeast infection.

Yes, I have asthma and it’s good to wish the top of your spacer ( the bit that you put on your mouth ) wash it once a week!
