How to Correctly Use an Inhaler
Many people don’t realize they are not using their inhaler correctly. Family Medicine physician, Michael Brown, DO, with Meritas Health Smithville explains how to properly use your inhaler to ensure the medication is getting to your lungs.

This is the best inhaler training video I could find! Thank you!
Dr. Brown, Thanks for being what a doctor should be, that so many are not - recognizing the need & taking the time to teach patients in a personable & clear way, with a great attitude! Knowledge can be found/learned by nearly anyone, but it takes the right attitude with a pleasant personality to be able to find & apply the knowledge needed to help others. So much appreciated, thanks for caring!
January 2023, the instructions here may be 4 years old, but, wow! It's the BEST I've found. Thanks Dr. Brown.
I realized ive been doing it wrong the whole time. Thank you for teaching the right way to do it
I am on my 3rd inhaler, and never felt relief…thank you, Dr. Brown…this was the best instructional video to date. I felt immediate results after one puff. 🥳
Very useful, I been using an inhaler for 3 years and now I know how to use it properly. Thanks so much!
Thank you for the thorough step by step process for first time inhaler users like myself!
This is the clearest explanation I’ve seen. Thanks
Very good demonstration of how to use vetolin inhaler
I have been using my inhaler for a year. I have a corneal disease which requires me to wear rigid contact lens. Have been wearing them for 55 years. I was having problems with night driving and thought it was because of my corneal disease and early onset glaucoma. After much thought, I realized that when you use the inhaler, the spray not only goes to your lungs, but also some is sprayed up from the top of the inhaler and goes into your eyes. I started covering my eyes before spraying with a clean tissue. This prevented getting any spray in my eyes. I no longer have night vision problems other than the fact that I am 80 yrs old.
Your demonstration was simply perfect ......so lucid, so graphic and every step of the process so crystal clear. Thnx.

Thank you for the demonstration. I was able to use the inhaler effectively.
Thanks for the demonstration. Your visual helped seeing it in real time rather than reading the steps.
Dr. Brown, Thank you very much for this detailed video. I have RSV which has caused my lungs to become inflamed. I was given an inhaler prescription with no instructions. Then the pharmacy gave it to me in a bag with no instructions. I asked to talk to the pharmacist who told me very generally to put it in my mouth and push the button. I got home and after reading the enclosed instructions was still unsure how to use it. After using it improperly without getting and benefit, I turned to KZread, found your video and am now able to get the puff into my lungs. It was simple but no one explained in detail each step. Not even shaking it first! Thank you, Thank you! I wish I had a dr. as good as you but they are very had to find these days and Kansas is a way long commute from California for an office visit!!
Wow! Thank you SO much! I've been paying hundreds of dollars for about a year now, all the time wondering why I didn't think I was getting any benefit from it. For that reason, I asked the tech who gave me a pulmonary test if I was doing it correctly. He said I was, but this video clearly demonstrates that I wasn't, and that I have, in fact, been wasting my money :-( P.S. I got onto the Internet to find out how to *clean* the spacer!
Providers should give patients a link to this video every time they write a prescription for an inhaler
Thank you Dr. Brown your instructions were easy to follow God bless you keep up the good work!!
Thank you,Dr Brown, for teaching us how to use our rescue inhaler. You did it in a way that was easy for us watching to follow and explained the reason for us to go "slow".
Dr. Brown, thanks so much for the video! I have had lung issues since I was seventeen. I have one lung and asthma. I always had Spontaneous Pnuemo Thorax. Both right and left side. Eight on one side nine on the other. The Dr's couldn't figure out why for years. Then they said I was born with blebs (scar tissue) on my lungs. I am now 50 (well on March 27, 2022) lol, and finally I get the full benefits out of my inhalers! Thanks again!

Great video doctor. Thank you. One picture (video) is worth a thousand words.
Ty because my pharmacist didnt tell me this. I just got an in healer and he said well your co pay is zero so for those i pack these in( the instructions into the paper bag) and have a good day.
Thank you Doctor! I needed this video!!!!
This was very informative and I have been watching it each time I take my dose. Thanks
Thank you Dr. Brown for your most excellent explaining for the use of the inhaler… learned how to use it properly 😊
Thanks so much for the detailed instructions. I had never used one before and didn’t even realize there was a cap that needed to be removed. 🤪
Thank you. I learned exactly how to use my "new to me" inhaler.
Thank you so much for the tutorial, Dr. Brown. Now I am confident that I am using my inhaler properly.
Thank you! I had it upside down, wasn't priming it, and wasn't holding anything in. I was doing it all wrong! Thank you! :)
Thank you so much, I was diagnosed with allergic asthma a couple years ago as a young adult and so I never had to take an inhaler as a child. Once I started to take one I did what was explained but NO ONE has explained as clearly as you have! I take fast deep breaths in and hold, so helpful to know to go slow! Taking my daily maintenance inhaler felt noticably more effective. :)
Very good instruction! Thank you, Doctor!
Nice demo. Thanks Dr.
Perfect demonstration and explanation
Thank you so much. This was extremely helpful!

I have had my inhaler since I was 7 or so and I was always told to activate the medication then breath in and I only now look it up and wow I was wrong the entire time. Well thanks I hope this will help me some more (: god bless
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much!!
Everything you said is exactly what I thought… Funny how it is but I actually feel much better now knowing that a doctor suggests the same. Darn civilization and its specializations! And also, thank you :)
thanks so informative
At the hospital they asked if I have ever used an inhaler. I said about 18 years ago. I guess they think I have a picture perfect memory because they just stood there and didn’t tell me how to use it. My first four doses I did not do it correctly. Wish you could’ve been my doctor. Thanks.
Thank you 🙏
Thanks dr for inf

So should you wait 1 minute between doses if you are taking two doses at the same time?
@NKCHospital

If your doctor prescribed two doses at at time, it would be best to check with them to confirm.
I would like to ask if you breath through your mouth or nose inhaling the medication?
@NKCHospital

You'll need to breathe through your mouth in order to inhale the medication.

Ive just started using an inhaler and i know its silly, but im honestly scared ill not use it correctly. Any tips on what people did to get used to their inhaler??
@MXCN05

Its very easy, basically, shake it, put it in your mouth, puff once, wait 10 seconds, then repeat, it's very easy

And also, don't lose the cap, what ever you do DO. NOT. LOSE. THAT. CAP
I’ve watched a few videos on this. You are the only one who said rinse mouth and brush teeth. Why?
Can my daughter drink water right after she inhales it??
@axlaspie4347
Жыл бұрын
Yeah
If your having shortness of breadth, You can't possibly do all of that your too scared of what is happening. So I'm sure I don't use it correctly during those times. So I just keep using it until I feel better -- then I can 'properly' use the inhaler.
Tilt head back some to open throat
I wonder why I’m watching this.. I don’t have asthma

Less than 10%? Yes I heard it was about 7% at best...
Ohhhhhh......sooooooo.....you're suggesting that we put it in OUR MOUTH, instead?? I didn't think it was supposed to be making my butt itch like that!!
@axlaspie4347

😭
I agree with everything except the breathing out part, you should always breath out through your nose so more of the medicine gets absorbed
😂
