Our New Oregon 3000 Series 30-Ton Log Splitter - 11/10/2022

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We finally bought a log splitter of our very own. It is an Oregon 3000 Series, 30-ton log splitter powered by a Kohler SH-series 6.5 horsepower engine. I explain about this log splitter in the video & you get to see it in action. As you will also see, this video is over the course of a few days; that gets explained as well.

You were just ejected from wood splitter club for using a square point shovel to complete the split... Good work and I operate my splitter sitting down. Us sitters invite you to our club. Iguana

Thanks for the video, I just picked one up. One thing I noticed is your log catcher is installed on the wrong side. Also, there’s a drain screw on the carburetor bowl, makes it super easy to prepare for storage.

I bought one like yours last week. Something that I didn’t think about when purchasing but this is the first log splitter I’ve had that didn’t have a hydraulic filter on it. I didn’t see one on yours either.

Hmmm, I guess it doesn't have one. Did not think about that either. Good thing to note.

The hydraulic oil filter is located inside the tank. It’s shown on Page 30 of the Operators Manual, Oregon part number 622528. I purchased my log splitter at Tractor Supply but they carry no parts for it. I found the filter online easy enough.

How did it tow when you picked it up and towed it home behind your truck.

My father picked it up as I was out on a call. He has a 2020 Subaru Forester with a 2" receiver & 2" ball. I would say it's better to use a small vehicle to tow it, as using a large vehicle like my truck is hard to tow it with because of how small the log splitter is; the only reason it's even possible with my truck is because my truck has a back up camera.

I just bought an Oregon 30-ton and it came with an internal hydraulic oil filter. It is going to take some work just to change the filter. I guess Oregon put the filter inside to protect it from getting damaged by a falling piece of split wood! Have you changed your hydraulic oil filter yet and if so how did that go? Good luck with your new splitter and thanks for the video!!

@@suburbanator91 Mine is brand new also but it says in the manual to replace the oil filter after ten hours of run time when you first start using the log splitter, then every fifty hours replace it again throughout the life of the machine.

My fireplace is a good size. I just like wood that's easy to start up. Smaller pieces also tend to burn more thoroughly; I always try to get as much fire & heat out of each piece I can so as to prolong the life of our wood supply.

Why would you split everything in vertical position? Why not cut the logs into 4 sections and then go horizontal to split them into smaller pieces?
