Dogs really have their personality and preferences for sleeping. Our dachshund liked to "dig" to fix her bed but when it got to tangled up she sat down and stared at us to fix it so she could start all over :) And when she was finished she curled up or the belly up for some belly rubs :D

I reckon they, like Jamie, simply wanted Sherpa to have a warm soft padded bed, but we forget that dogs have different ideas & Sherpa's clearly comfortable! I'm certain he could drag a rug wherever he wanted it to be, if he did want a thicker pad. The whole bed saga reminds me of friends who brought their toddler to visit in winter. The child was bundled up in a sleepsuit & we had the heating on. We got talking, the child crawled out of the room & we followed her to the fridge - she was too hot & put her head in the fridge to cool down! We ended up taking off a layer & she was happy.

The white unit in your shower is probably what the question was about. Typically, American showers are controlled by the faucets on the tub. There is usually a lever on the tub spout that directs the water to the shower head instead of to the tub spout. There is no separate unit for the shower. Jamie, I love your and Sherpa's house and garden, the thick walls, the stone, the tasteful, open style of the place. I'm curious about what the shed holds. Hopefully it's something weird and wonderful like a pottery kiln or a glass blowing studio. But I bet it's a mower of some sort and yard tools.

The airing cupboard is actually a hangover from when houses had a boiler and a separate hot water tank and the airing cupboard is where the tank went. This meant that the cupboard was always warm so damp stuff could go in to dry off. Also useful as a place to put your bread dough to rise. These days with on-demand hot water from the boiler, many houses no longer have a hot water tank, so it's just a cupboard!

Sherpa belongs to a race of dogs that originally only lived in the arctic, so he doesn't care one bit if the bed is soft or hard, as long as it is nice and cool. I had a newfie, and he always preferred to sleep outside, directly on the ground, all year round, unless it was raining. He couldn't care less about a soft doggie bed, if he could sleep on some nice cold stones, preferably covered in ice and snow. We didn't allow him to stay outside in in the winter, so he found a spot inside, right in front of the back door, where the nice cold wind always blew in underneith the old leaky door. This way he combined being a guard dog with being able to sleep in a nice, frosty draught. I am sure Sherpa would love a nice, frosty draught too, but I hope for you, Jamie, and yor feet, that your new house is properly isolated. Polar dogs are natuarally isolated, people are not. Cheers from Denmark!

🇬🇧 Sherpa does have the 'life of Riley', and he truly is deserving of it. Our Husky has a bed, and a pet mattress like Sherpa's, and much of his time is spent lying on a mat on the floor. Bedtime is spent where.........in our mud room in the BOOT TRAY! 🤦‍♀️ Yes he adores the boot tray, which when the footwear is stored away I put his crate mat, padded in the tray, and he snuggles down and goes fast asleep. So I wouldn't worry what anyone may think about Sherpa's sleeping arrangements, the comfort is there if, and when he chooses. 👍 🧺🐕

What a lovely home! I'm sure those thick walls will help to keep you both cool in summer and warm in winter! I suspect the confusion about "what's that thing in the shower??" stems from the large white "box" mounted on the wall. Here in the US we don't tend to see something like that for shower controls, usually just the taps coming out of the wall. We're also accustomed to MUCH larger refrigerators. I believe the size you have is very common in Europe. Larger isn't always better. Sherpa is such a beautiful boy! Thank you so much for sharing him with us.

Maybe you have a small leak somewhere in the mini red. Sherpa did not mind the rain. I think you did it right by not moving the caravan. The house is just beautiful for you two. I absolutely love your new house! The way the refrigerator and dishwasher are concealed with the cabinetry is genius! Lots of room for Sherpa to run! Lots of places to put dog beds Sherpa won’t use. Believe me I know about that!I have one dog who will only lay in her dog bed when I am not in the room. If I walk in she jumps up and moves. She does not do this if she is laying on the couch or my bed, only the dog bed. It does not matter what room I put it in, how many times I put her in it, put treats in it or talk to her about it being hers. She has a mind of her own. And like most dogs, Sherpa does too!

My dog slept on a blanket in an outside kennel. This was before he came to us 3 years ago, age 6 & and a half. Here he sleeps indoors on settee or a chair or his bed in dining room, under my computer desk. His previous rescuer kept several dogs in the house. He told me my one didn't get on with the other dogs. He gets very stroppy when were out and he sees bigger dogs. He socialised with his next door neighbour here who is a bitch about same size. They love each other its so sweet.

Some suggestions: 1. Use your dishwasher as a dish strainer. Then you don't take up space on the countertop. 2. Place your bed in the middle of the wall, not to one or the other side. You'll have space for a small table or a plant on each side. 3. Buy a piece of fabric that is waterproof, especially made for outdoor furniture. That will be pleasant for your lovely new bench & any other spots. Pillows, too, are available. Happy for you & Sherpa to have found a beautiful home on lovely property.

Hey Jamie, maybe you can use the dishwasher just to drain your dishes. And just leave it a tad open, so it won’t build moisture. That way you’ll safe space on the counter….also, I totally get Sherpa’s sleeping habits, my husky most of the time chooses the bare floor to sleep on. He also really likes his elevated bed, no blankets, cushions, or anything. Maybe he just likes to stay cool ❄️🐾💙🐺

Jamie, those people commenting about Sherpa laying on the floor instead of a dog bed should realize (If they have been watching for any significant amount of time.) that you love him very much and take excellent care of his needs. Sherpa just likes the cold/cooler floor to sleep on. My Dalmatian at times will lay on the bare floor for short periods. He has two dog beds and a chair that he is allowed to be on. It is just sometimes the floor is cooler and they like that. I love the fact that you have a home with a very large, for the UK, garden for Sherpa and yourself to enjoy. The size of the house looks perfect for you two. May you both enjoy it for many years to come. 🐕 🏠

Thank you, dear Sherpa and Jamie, for answering so many questions in this lovely video. I think most of us have always known Sherpa’s sleep preferences: Flat floor, or thin carpet. You would have to follow him around all night to place a “bed” under him, and then he’d discard it anyway. Strong character is Sherpa; knows exactly what he wants, because of the excellent way he’s been raised. Glad no curtains. With that view, curtains might even be a sin. Live happy, both of you, in your gorgeous, thick-walled house. 💐 🐾 💕

Pros and cons about dishwashers: they sterilize your dishes from the hot water. Con, they tend to "etch" some of your dishes. I do prefer to hand wash for myself but it's anyone's choice. Love your new digs! When I was very young my family had a septic tank at our house. The grass grew very long and green over the place. We made the mistake of putting our pet guinea pigs out there. It turns out the grass was poisonous and our pigs died. I'm sure Sherpa won't eat the grass. It doesn't look as dark green that grass either. If the tanks are really deep it might make a difference.
