Our Most Intense Day in Van Life Travel | PANTANAL, BRAZIL

THIS is the big bucket list destination we have been talking about. This turned out to be super intense. With more wildlife than we have ever seen in any country, the entrance into the Pantanal and down to Porto Jefre is loaded with amazing diversity, incredible life, and striking nature. Like anything in life, it doesn't come without a price, and if you enter from the north that means a long bumpy dirt road and 120 bridges each sketchier than the next. This was truly an intense and immersive experience.
Cheers

In Pantanal is the place with the most diverse fauna and flora in the world putting the Amazon jungle in second place it’s surrounded by all the South American biomes and their unique ecosystems (Amazon Rainforest, River and Basin, Cerrado: Tropical Savanna, Caatinga arid , Atlantic Forest: Mata Atlântica, Gran Chaco, Yungas: Subtropical Forest, Sumapaz Páramo, Llanos: Grassland Ecoregion, Páramo: Andean Moorland, Andean Patagonian Forest, Atacama Desert…) it also serves as haven for migratory birds from other continents, it’s the largest fresh water wetlands in the world which means the most species of plants, mammals, invertebrates, fish and birds…

The other bird, with "G" shape are called "Garça". Enjoy your stay in Brazil! The birds with the "spoon" shape mouth are called "Collhereiro". Collher means "spoon", so you know where the name is coming from 😁 The ones with black head, if I am not mistaken, are called Tuiuiu = spell challenge 😃

I have been following your trek through Brazil and am so happy you are a fellow bird lover! The large blue parrots you saw are hyacinth macaws. (The blue macaws with the yellow breasts are called blue and gold macaws). The hyacinths can often be found around cattle. The hyacinth macaws live primarily on two different kinds of nuts, which have extremely hard outer shells. The cattle tend to eat the nuts as they graze but cannot digest them. However, their systems remove the outer shells and the hyacinths go behind them, feasting as they pick the shelled nuts out of the cattle droppings. Keep the videos coming....you have a captive audience here! (And yes, that is an African grey parrot on my shoulder....lol)

honestly, I hope they do not improve the roads and bridges there, this area is doing just fine without lots of people visiting. The roads must be kept as dirt since wather needs to penetrate the soil to keep the underground ecosystem working too. It's a park and an very unique biome of the Earth and must be preserved as natural as possible.

Just before you guys came across the cayman nest, those big birds reminded me of our Australian jabaru in the northern Territory. The wildlife over there is simply stunning, thanks guys for another wonderful post.

They are Jabiru in South America, in Australia the similar bird is correctly named a Black-necked Stork though most often it is mistakenly referred to as a Jabiru

25:44 that huge crane-like bird is a Tuiuiú (pronounced too-u-u) a.k.a. jaburu (jah-boo-roo). It's considered the symbol of Pantanal. An amazing bird, almost unreal, as it is almost the size of an ostrich, but it can fly. It's said to be the largest bird that can fly in the world. Looking closely, its head doesn't even look that it belongs to a real creature, looks as though it's man-made or something. It gave me the impression that it is actually a small man in disguise lol. The Pantanal is amazing, especially the Transpantaneira road. Thanks for the video!

This bird at 2:42 is very agressive and protective here in Brazil. We call them "Quero-Quero" because of the sound they make. They have thorns on the wings that can cut you good... never mess with this birds ahahaha when he is walking by in the video they keep making this sound to keep him away from the nest that is on the ground.
