Snow & Curt

Snow & Curt

Turn our life upside down at 50 to join the Full Time Van Life? Sure!

We sold everything we owned... including our home in Florida. Why? To move into a 94sf Self Converted Van to travel the world! Yes, we became Full Time Van Life Travelers! To do this, we retired from our careers before turning 50, said good bye to family and friends, left our old life behind and hit the road with our 2 cats... Vanna & G.

The plan? Travel the world in our tiny house on wheels! We are 5 years into our journey and we have toured the USA, Mexico, Central America, and South America. We are headed to Europe next where we plan to spend several years getting to know all of the hidden gems that the continent has to offer.

We expect this journey to take us a total of about 15 years... we travel slow so that we can dive into the local cultures. It will be full of surprises, ups, and downs... but we hope you will come along for the ride!

Cheers
Snow and Curt

Snow and Kurt, Very sorry Slovakia has been so much trouble. Guess I can strike that off my bucket 🪣 list. I see you traveled north from Kosice to Presov, then turned west along the Tatras. Beautiful countryside that my grandfather described. But please let us know what happened. My wife Liliana posted her concern on another comment and I'm worried too. Looks like these are unfriendly people and no way I want to find my roots. So please take care. 🙏 John Hunady

Hari OM Parking in Europe/UK is something of a lottery - costs can sure mount up, particularly if you don't read the small print that most of them have on their signage these days. I am glad you found somewhere that was both reasonably priced AND that pepped up your opinion of the country! Now... tenterhooks until Saturday... YAM xx

I believe Slovakia may disapprove of the escalation of war in Ukraine by the US and want peace on their border, not sure though. Very interesting and educational to see how different cultures react to Americans.

So I'm gonna skip ahead and watch these actually I had to go back and watch the brake video and cop video first but I'm getting Hungary now.. I'll never forget saying "see you later" in Hungarian at a checkout line at the neighborhood market and seeing the gigantic smile I got from the cashier you are so right about making an effort! Hi Guys. We has exactly the same when we lived in Bulgaria for a year on UK plates. The corruption was rife. You get pulled over, they intimidate, then eventually let you know what they like whether it be cigarettes or Raki. Or the alternative is to follow them to the police station for a thorough doc check. Of course we paid probably up to 15 bucks per officer. It wasn't pleasant but what can you do? We loved living in Bulgaria and most people were lovely but although a part of the EU they still have that Eastern block mindset. Great content guys. Thanks

That cheese is wonderful. It's meant to be pulled apart and shredded - rather finely - we fluff it up in an airy mound of cheesy goodness :) My grandmother's family is Slovak, from the Tatra Mountains. They were traditionally potters. I am enjoying just seeing the countryside, kind of trying to feel into it, to find them there. Loved the village with the white symbols painted on the siding. I love it!!

My family hosted 2 exchange students from Slovakia for a school year in NY during the late 1990s We had one student who was from the High Tatras, and were invited to visit. We went to Cicmany, have pictures of my then 13 year old daughter dressed in traditional Slovakia dress. We found the people of the High Tatras to be warm and friendly, but quite shy to be around Americans, especially those from the “ Big Apple”. We enjoyed our time there, a very meaningful time. Hi to Martin K if you should come across my comment!

There's another cheese you have to try there: it's similar to the stringy one you bought, but it's tied in little knots and smoked. Just delicious!! 🤤

That is a shame! I've heard that those who have the power not the average citizen are due to what wef wants (which is no more than 15min) are pushing anti travel though pushing political immigrants. One way to do so is over pricing every little thing.

Europe is expensive, and a lot of places are becoming anti tourist. Its unfortunate but a part of the reality I experienced...if you want to see it or you have to pay it😢

  • @contactsuzi7096

The Tatras are more accessible on the Polish side but still a bit expensive compared to South America and Mexico where you've traveled extensively. Over time, they've become a year round playground for tourists from all over the world. Poland is a better educated people than Slovakia but I found that even in Poland, in the countryside, people were shy about speaking English, or simply couldn't speak it...they could speak Russian though as it was required when they lived under the Russians after WW II. Not all of the countries in the east are "westernized" ...the bigger cities are sometimes the exception...for that reason Slovakia wouldn't have been on my list...along with a few others. People who have been brutally conquered have long memories. It affects how they relate to foreigners. I'm glad that you were able to salvage that part of your trip...you're world travel veterans, you know how to make lemonade...xoxo Suzi
