Those little toyotas will go forever. My dad drove a '97 for 12 or 13 years and 300,000+ miles before a rotted frame and busted transmission did it in. He once pulled my mom's Accord up a steep hill in 6in snow all the way home. Bulletproof little thing.

Not that I haven’t always enjoyed TFL, but David’s Yak Ranch is the single greatest thing that has happened to the channels content.
There something about little older trucks that make them look weak , but they show mighty results. Old trucks for life
One thing I think you proved with both is that in those conditions, 4 wheel drive doesn't make them two times better, it makes them more like ten times better.

Love both trucks of this vintage ,but my heart still goes to the ram. My first truck was 98 ram sport ext.cab(no clam shell doors) two wheel drive ,white. Comfy truck for me . Still miss it to this day.
I’m on team baby truck! Anyone else?
A good tip for open diffs. Pulse the throttle in and out to get some torque to that other wheel.
One can pull 10K up a hill at interstate speeds, the other can't pull itself up a hill at interstate speeds.

Tacoma all day, everyday
Just like a dodge....hey buddy can you give me a push? 😆🤣
That’s two real pretty trucks, love the Tacoma especially
Wow. Talk about a trip down memory lane. I had that same exact Tacoma in red. Bought it back in 2000, and had to get rid of it because I needed something bigger.
Awesome video, and you all have made perfect choices on the trucks that you are using.
I own an 06 Ram Cummins and it is completely worthless in RWD in the snow. And to wheel it on a trail is severe self abuse! But, put 10,000 pounds behind it and it's right at home. Off road? It's Taco time!
It is scary that the 2500’s hood starts where the yodas roof stops
Value on these Tacos is goin up!
Both trucks look amazing as they are in this video.
Such cool looking trucks, amazing shape for their age.

I've got a tiny Tacoma of that era too. RWD, open diff low clearance, and it does pretty well in the Colorado snow. Wont plow through banks like my old Outback, but with good tires and 300lbs of sand it the back it does fine.

Great video, and that is an amazing piece of land.
My brother and I recently took his linked dual case 1 ton Tacoma on 40 inch pro comps and arb lockers and two stock 3rd gen 4Runners to the snow. You'd be very surprised how much tires make a difference. One of the 4Runners followed nearly faultless all day on cheap 265 chunky mud terrains that were a no name brand from China. The other 4Runner had half tread Toyo at's and only got stuck twice.

All this proves is torque and lockers are a necessity
@martinsvensson6884

Torque is pretty irrelevant on snow.
@sonysoyboysaremadeoftears.7404
2 жыл бұрын
Torque on a slick surface will just cause more spin and less traction. Try driving a 700hp dodge charger in the snow with a difflock and you will see what I mean.
Weld the steering column for a tighter steering feel and change all the bushings... this taco drives like a dream 👌🏼
I love the Cummins, and If the Toyota was a stick it would be perfect!

Get an access cab and take out the rear seats. Lighter, better payload, better mpg and you can use the back for extra storage space. That's the configuration I wish I got.

Definitely my favorite tfl channel! The car reviews on tflcar are great don't get me wrong but the goofing around on here is great
In the woods the Yota will outshine the Dodge bigtime. I cut my own trails and there is no way a full size truck will get through. 1995 short bed "pickup", last of the 22RE's.

I think those Michelins aren't as tame as they look... Getting some good grip for sure!
Have you considered making a TFLyak channel just for David content?
It's all in the driver
Stick shift offroad no matter what the truck or conditions is more fun and in an older truck for that matter makes it my winner. Oh and the fact that it’s a Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins helps too lol.

I just bought an entirely gold 01 Taco. It's a prerunner doublecab TRD. So it's rwd and really oddly optioned. No abs, no cruise but power windows, CD, and Tape!🤣
I wanna know where David got that hat. That thing looks comfy and warm.
I wish they still built trucks like this.
Case, I hope you're getting that whole truck with business expenses! I believe TFL could pay for the truck and deduct that from your paycheck, effectively giving you the truck without having to pay income tax on the value of the truck before receiving it. That should work for gas, too. Only bc you're using it so much for your job; that ram is definitely "in the TFL fleet"!
@bennettfoley3018

I think TFL should be able to write it off as a business expense, too? I'm no accountant tho fair warning
2 Best trucks in the world 💯
lol its funny the trucks sitting next to each other look like father and son. ( also, very clean examples of both trucks.. Where I live trucks in that nice of condition for that age do not exist. )
That Tacoma is a Billy goat!
Man, that little Toyota needs a LSD big time! I put one in my 2WD '98 Ranger, and honestly it should be standard in any pickup truck! For your truck that will likely spend like 75% of the time on the road as a daily driver, I would personally go with a Detroit Truetrac (torque biasing-style) or just a good ol' clutch type LSD. I'd keep lockers for a dedicated offroad rigs.
I used to yank diesel welding trucks out of the mud working pipeline with my Tacoma same year as this one. Still drive it daily, about to roll over 300k miles.
5:23 that's what she said
I love that tacoma pick up!
Up to this day, people don't know the difference between HP and Torque. There is no horsepower without torque. power is work over time. Work is force X distance, and torque is the force in that equation.
@austinreed347

Wow
Aw. You should have done a steep, rocky hill climb. (We already saw Kase try to take the big Dodge up one earlier, it's Yota's turn.) :) Both are great trucks, just different applications.
